What is the deal with Amex? Is it really that expensive for the retailers to process these transactions? I once pulled my Amex card to pay the bill at a restaurant and the waiter looked at me as if I told him I wanted to have sex with his wife.

I just prefer to use my Amex card because i get frequent flyer miles but it is hard finding places that take it.

In addition to what everyone else has said, I don't see how you're going to get a different price using Mastercard rather than Visa - while Amex tends to have higher merchant fees, the other two charge about the same as each other.

when you do pay cash, make sure you have your spending money separate from your purchase money. nothing more dangerous and more expensive than flashing a wad of cash. look poor, they do not get robbed
