Well I don't like rap because it just doesn't audibly please me, however there is something different about this song. I am a fan of the electronic genres and the melody here has such an electronic vibe to it that I like it.
It always winds me up when I see a "I don't like rap but..." top comment. Just means you haven't explored the hip-hop genre enough, so when you find a dope track, you think you've come across an exception.
There's so much more out there, broaden your horizons! Stop with the "I do like this genre, I don't like this genre" kind of labelling that puts music in boxes.

@gdlavery I usually just troll here because 99% of Youtube comments are retarded, but what you said has earned you my respect. That was one of the most wonderful remarks I've ever read about a video. @JudgeJudas well thats all good for you......but your the one negatively influencing others by telling them not to get high.....and u aint gotta do drugs to get high.....please dont comment on my grammer either
@F1zhsTourturedSoul I'm not telling people not to get high, nor am I commenting on your grammar. (Are you confusing me with someone else or putting words into my mouth?) What I am saying is that I don't see the point of bringing up drugs here either as a "mmmm I love getting high" or a "drugs suck"-way, period.
Drugs are a personal choice and shouldn't be the subject on every other video on YouTube.
@JudgeJudas nah i was just assuming you were gonna comment on my grammar cuz im all in a hurry n your taking the time to punctuate lol......n idk you just commented tellin lauriertripp how about dont get high at all....and it kinda annoyed me....but oh well i see your ointp
@F1zhsTourturedSoul I'm not telling anybody to not get high at all, I'm just telling everybody to not bring up that subject at all, because it's actually quite boring to read all those "free your minds, do drugs" and "drugs suck and everybody who does them suck aswell"-comments. I'm personally against drugs, but that is in no way relevant to me liking this song, so I don't see why it should matter either way.

@lukethecfclover Cause Eminem is one of the only few white rappers to have massive mainstream success, and the most commercially successful rapper ever. So when people see another white rapper, it's almost impossible for most people to not see that artist in Em's shadow.
@WutDfuzz Well, why isn't anybody compared to the Beastie Boys? They were the first crossover rap act, and brought rape to white people's attention before anybody else. 3rd Bass and House of Pain (Everlast) never would have been around if the BEasties weren't there first. Or is it because 99% of the Beasties' music is intentional comical? I'm not quite sure which.....
@hiphopbwwsoccer 1. Your right, the Beastie Boys were one of the first if not the first major crossover Hip-Hop act, Eminem's social impact, yet alone commercial success in the late 1990's-present is going to be what the majority of people think of when they think of a white rapper. It's just the way it is and the way that the majority of this generation's hip-hop listeners think.
@WutDfuzz But that's what's sad. Eminem can rap. He has a particular style, but I would rather be compared with somebody as far as skills go, not fame. I would much rather be compared to an Eyedea, or Slug, or Sage Francis, or Aespo Rock, or a young Vinnie Paz (Psycho-Social timeframe), personally. But I guess that's just the artist in me.
@PunkingSnitches I'm not trying to crucify you for your own opinion, but how could you dislike this? The music is so mellow, so chill, and the lyrics are all abstract and wicked! Fair enough if you'd rather be 'mainstream' and be up in the club with yo' money and yo' bitches, but my preference has been and will always be with Aesop Rock.
i'd be lying if i claimed i could comprehend everything that aes says in his songs. but what sets him apart is the fact that despite not knowing what the hell he may be talking about, you can still somehow feel and relate to all the things he says.
hate when people do this, so forgive my hiproacy,, My friend and I just started an acoustic hip/hop project movement type of sphiel and it would be amazing to just get some views for what we put alot of hard work into. The name of the video is Lost Tape Tomita and the url is youtube.com/watch?v=sDUrg84mm1o . we really appreciate any notice this brings we all have dreams and we just want to be seen
Hey go do something you'll regret: check out and subscribe to my shitty channel and the crazy ass video for my song "No Fuckin' Way". It's to rap what punk was to rock.
Eminem is a good Rapper, he has good rhymes with catchy tunes and good lyrics but Aesop Rock has the creativity em will never have. I mean hear the songs water, coffee, pigs, freeze and prob the best creative song hes ever made daylight and nightlight. Ive been listening to Aesop for years and that song does not get old ever. He has a creative flow and he speaks methaporically which I dont think any of these rappers know what that is ( faggy wayne, drake, rick ross, 50 cent etc.)
in all seriousness though, eminem can't really, at all actually be compared to this guy. Aesop rocks worst music is better than eminems best. though Aesop doesn't really have any bad music
@skate4austin no, they are different types of rappers, eminem is a very talented mc along with aesop. The one thing you're right on is that they can't be compared, however.
@parade ... no, he isn't. Try writing better than him? If you have heard of rappers who are definitely on the same level as Aesop, such as Canibus, and you appreciate his music, you cannot turn around and say eminem's music is bad. He has complex rhyme schemes, was an intensely gritty rapper at the start of his career, and is lyrically, to say the least, is above most MC's. The only thing about him is how commercialised his recent tracks have got, it pains me to listen to them sometimes.
@TheAsianWorm It's art, so it's all my opinion of course, but Em is bad. Part of being an artist is selling yourself, and the way Em (or his producers) packages himself I find terrible, and therefor the contents don't even matter. He has his occasional song that I can appreciate, but then it's right beside all of the stuff he does which essentially angsty gansta shit that I couldn't begin pretend to enjoy. Lyricism is only part of it. A big one, which he manages to overshadow by being a shithead
@parade ok, fair enough, yes - its all based on opinion. But then again, its exceptionally hard for people with his upbringing, even if that is one of his 'attributes' that is oversold, to have a universally likeable persona, if you know what I mean. These type of characters are very strongly designed, and do not waver. But i agree with you on the producers point - its killed him. But, even with preference, I don't think its right to say he's a bad MC.
y when there is a white rapper slim shady has 2 b mentioned he is not the best white rapper he is jus mo famous and addressing B)dont no rap music i wood love 2 meet u in person and prove u so wrong its unimaginable
I love Aesop Rock, so dope with his complete own style. I love how he does things his own way and still keeps it honest. I am actually trying to do the same. I am a new rapper who just put out my first ep. I'd love it if you went to my page to check it out and told me your thoughts. Thanks for the time! Take Care!
This guy is like the Jorge Borges of hip hop. He draws in so many diverse influences it's hard to tell what's his work and what isn't... I guess it's like they say: Creativity is the art of concealing one's sources.
Okay, to those of you comparing Aesop to Eminem, both sides are off. Comparing these two are comparing apples and oranges. They each focus on different subject matters entirely: Aesop's rhymes are more abstract and complex, working from many different perspectives, evoking thought of it's overall meaning. Eminem on the other hand, draws from personal experiences, staying with a more straight-forward and more easily-grasped concept for the majority of his songs. It's all up to interpretation.
i read the lyrics so many times but this shit is wayyy over my head and everyone elses.

I remember when this video had about 200,000 views. I'm glad to see music as creative as this is getting the recognition it deserves.

Aesop rocks worst music is better than eminems best. though Aesop doesn't really have any bad music
skate4austin 5 months ago
@skate4austin no, they are different types of rappers, eminem is a very talented mc along with aesop. The one thing you're right on is that they can't be compared, however.

parade 4 months ago
@parade ... no, he isn't.
TheAsianWorm 4 months ago
@TheAsianWorm It's art, so it's all my opinion of course, but Em is bad. Part of being an artist is selling yourself, and the way Em (or his producers) packages himself I find terrible, and therefor the contents don't even matter. He has his occasional song that I can appreciate, but then it's right beside all of the stuff he does which essentially angsty gansta shit that I couldn't begin pretend to enjoy. Lyricism is only part of it. A big one, which he manages to overshadow by being a shithead
parade 4 months ago
@parade ok, fair enough, yes - its all based on opinion. But then again, its exceptionally hard for people with his upbringing, even if that is one of his 'attributes' that is oversold, to have a universally likeable persona, if you know what I mean. These type of characters are very strongly designed, and do not waver. But i agree with you on the producers point - its killed him. But, even with preference, I don't think its right to say he's a bad MC.
