Other pop vids coming to mind when watching this: OMD's "Tesla Girls" (same year, rather tongue-in-cheek in general), and Marina and the Diamonds' "Oh No" (colourful pop art look)
Kim herself admitted she never like "Dancing In The Dark" - it wasn't great single material (a good album cut though) and that's why it bombed in the charts. BUT "THE TOUCH" , now THIS IS FANTASTIC and did'nt even make the top 40. I loved 99% of Kim's material but my favourite two albums of her's have got to be "Close" and "Select".

I love this song, and the video, I dont think Kim ever looked better than this, she's SO cute around 1984.. of course she still look great, but here she is perfect, even the hair is cool :)

However in general her post 1988 songs were soppy and lacked the bite and interest of the earlier songs.

Not that I want to take anything away from Kim - she was stunning (still is!) and sang marvellously well and was undoubtedly the vital cog in the hit-making machine that was the "Wilde trio".

The song 'Janine' however has always given me the impression that it may well be based on a true family event. (?) Kim really sings that song out from the heart. 'Sing it out for love'=wistful. Don't understand why this was not at least Top 20. And Dancing in the Dark stalled too from her previous album. These were not her very best songs but waaaay better than alot of the stuff from 80's that went into the Top 20.
The video reminds me a female perspective on Adam Ant's Prince Charming video. Even has the same concept a little bit. That is what I get a bit right at the beginning.
I remember I left a mix tape at my aunt's house. I recall this was the only song on the cassette that she didn't care for. But I still love this track. Although I always had a soft spot for Kim and her overblown dramatics. Apparently, the general public didn't agree with my taste!
Although this is quite a good song, it's not hard to see why it stiffed commercially given the video it was lumbered with - a poor relation of Prince Charming (with Pat Coombes as the Fairy Godmother) with a slightly odd Rentaghost vibe that doesn't really sit with Kim's sophisticated pop image.
The video itself has a very strong 80s British vibe, though. Gotta love the Brits, though. That old lady is possibly well known in the U.K. Who is she? She also appeared in the Art of Noise's Moments In Love.

It is a great song. I know what you mean about the Cinderella theme and the dancing messengers in this video though. I feel the same way about it. But funny in a lot of ways probably because it's her silliest video. Kind of cheesy. But not knocking her, of course. She's always interesting at least.

I used to be a huge fan of Kim Wilde back then. Her Teases&Dares album is one of the best she made!
It's a shame she turned a different direction in music since her Close-album....her music was better in the good old Eighties days!!

One of those songs that I heard when I was around 10 years old. I didn´t understand the lyrics but I loved the music anyway. Now I know the words but it´s still the sound that touches me. Maybe I´ll record the song with my own lyrics.

Amazing what changes in just 20 years. In the 1980's, the trashy Madonna's of the entertainment industry were just beginning to express their sleazy personas as if we should admire them... now....... we're inundated with the trash of the world & their drug habits, booze habits, 20 second marriages, tatoos, and sullen hateful attitudes. Ahhh haaaa. lol. Losers who can't see how junky they are. The 1980's were the best.

Don't understand why this was not at least Top 20. And Dancing in the Dark stalled too from her previous album. These were not her very best songs but waaaay better than alot of the stuff from 80's that went into the Top 20.

The video reminds me a female perspective on Adam Ant's Prince Charming video. Even has the same concept a little bit. That is what I get a bit right at the beginning.

I remember I left a mix tape at my aunt's house. I recall this was the only song on the cassette that she didn't care for. But I still love this track. Although I always had a soft spot for Kim and her overblown dramatics. Apparently, the general public didn't agree with my taste!

Although this is quite a good song, it's not hard to see why it stiffed commercially given the video it was lumbered with - a poor relation of Prince Charming (with Pat Coombes as the Fairy Godmother) with a slightly odd Rentaghost vibe that doesn't really sit with Kim's sophisticated pop image.
