  • for crying out loud...why did i not hear about this one before...impresive..every week i find a new "GOOD" song from the eighties....my channe is already full of them...and they keep and keep coming... what an era...magic...

  • @mexmetal666 Hell yeah :D

  • She's so incredibly cool without ever intending to be. WOW!!!

  • WTF!!! Army of lovers in Kim's video? Ha ha ha

  • @nickko70 There's a Kim Wilde cult, if you even utter a sentence criticizing Kim, it's taken as a personal insult... Pathetic.

  • @NormacHC I'm sorry but YOU are pathetic, having no sense of humor. Plus you cannot take something as personal insult unless you are the person itself. Are you Kim Wilde? No, I don't think so!

  • Just played the vid for "Child" - wow! it's weird, would love to know what it all means. Nobody can accuse Kim Wilde of having sung only bugglegum pop, this is seriously deep stuff.

  • This is super, up there with Amadaous

  • I *like* music videos that aren't taking themselves too seriously. :)

The transvestites presumably are a nod to Adam and the Ants' "Prince Charming" video. As far the messenger boys, maybe this was inspired by Kim's father Marty working as one before his musical career took off. And yes, Pat Coombs as a fairy.

Other pop vids coming to mind when watching this: OMD's "Tesla Girls" (same year, rather tongue-in-cheek in general), and Marina and the Diamonds' "Oh No" (colourful pop art look)

  • Kim is, unfortunately, a genius. And beautiful.

  • @TheScottrocks9 Why in the world do you say, "unfortunately?"

  • I can't remember this one at all although I was out of the UK for part of 1984.

  • Does anyone know who played the "fairy godmother?" She looks so familiar.

  • Kim herself admitted she never like "Dancing In The Dark" - it wasn't great single material (a good album cut though) and that's why it bombed in the charts. BUT "THE TOUCH" , now THIS IS FANTASTIC and did'nt even make the top 40. I loved 99% of Kim's material but my favourite two albums of her's have got to be "Close" and "Select".

  • I've yet to find a song by Kim that I haven't enjoyed.

  • @The77surfer So true!

  • @The77surfer Same here! I could listen to her amazing voice for hours... come to think of it, I have done, on several occasions!

  • under rated from kim i love tis song

  • WOW!!!! Never thought to see if a clip for this was ever made, until today. THANKS for posting. Alwasy been my fav track from "Teases and Dares", but was NOT released as a single in Australia. Years later scored the import copy of the 12" {an awesome remix}.

  • god bless her, this video is such a mess. worth sitting through for the song though, which i always enjoyed.

  • @alexanderj1987 Oh, come on, the video is fun (barring the pointless transvestites) and Kim looks superb in that black dress.

  • Kim Wilde is so angelical and she has that kid pretty face. It really makes me smile. =D

  • orgasmic!

    milky wayyyyy

  • ooh my Teases and Dares album should come in the next couple of days! The image of Kim in that era is awesome, as are the singles (especially this and The Second Time). It's a pity it wasn't greatly appreciated by people.

  • @ApophisSnake

Ooohhh, i just understood what you said:

I used to look for "Teases and dares" as a CD, but even though i looked everywhere, that was eventually the only one missing!

I guess i'll try looking for it again ........ :D

  • adorable!

  • Who plays the fairy godmother? I KNOW her from somewhere....

  • SECRET ADMIER 1985 C THOMAS HOWELL

  • @dirtydee28 Hell yah! I love that movie

  • I love her!!!!! Kim Wilde FOREVER!! 80'S FOREVER!!!!♥

  • i've loved this song for ages but i had no idea how amazing the video was!

  • Definitely Kim Wildes peak era!

  • REAL MUSIC!!!!!!!

  • REAL MUSIC PEOPLE THIS PURE TALENT!!!! LONG LIVE 80'S LEGENDS!!! FUCK TODAYS MUSIC.

  • @mexmetal666

Good music is ageless. Young or old, it means nothing.

  • @mexmetal666 Don't even mention TODAY'S MUSIC!! Ughh

  • The Touch was my fav song on the album, by the way new T&D album with remastered songs are out this week you can order on amazon

  • @Mmamuka27 i ordered it. finally it's out and at a great price.

  • wow great song, very stock aitken waterman sounding !!! pure hi nrg fab !!!

  • @danny6092 How the hell does brilliant, unpredictable futuristic art-house rock like this compare with the rubbish, stale & tragically baby-school simplistic SAW approach-hi-nrg my arse-that's the shite for gay clubs! This synth-rock! Bloody great synth-rock too, it's how music should be made. Kim pioneered this sound before those 3 idiots appeared with 'You Spin Me Round' etc. But as usual this single version is a poor cry of the actual song in its proper form on the album, labels always did it

  • @TheMjblades well said!!! she still kicks ass, and so does this song.

  • god damm hot in that black dress

  • I'm gonna demand they play this if I ever go to a club on 80s night.

  • Fantastic woman.... LEGEND

  • Awesome production! The sound of the Synclavier II system at work!

  • Kim was hot, and this song has a powerful beat, really original sounding!

Haven't found anything quite like it.

Shame it's quite hard to come by now...:/

  • I forgot all about this song. It wasn't heavily played on Mtv, but I remember loving it when they did.

  • Did you know that most women in the 80's look just like her ?

  • All the discografy of Kim is great.

  • I Have The "Teases And Dares", album on vinyl. I listen mostly to this song and the "Go For It". Good songs from a nice timeperiod

  • I love that its subpar quality, very 80s :)

  • Love this song! Love this album!

  • Totally agree with the previous posts. Funny that -unless I'm mistaken - it doesnt seem to be on any of the compilations.

  • Since 1984 when the Teases & Dares Album came out "The Touch" struck me always as something special and out of the ordinary; just a song I have to listen to on an off again.

  • I love this song, and the video, I dont think Kim ever looked better than this, she's SO cute around 1984.. of course she still look great, but here she is perfect, even the hair is cool :)

This song also makes her use her special voice in a great way.

coolkotka: Teases and Dares is a great album, but my personal favorite is without doubt "Select" :)

  • I WISH I COULD HAVE BORN AT THAT TIME!!

  • Absolutely amazing song !one of my favourite 80's !

  • i wish my room was as easy to clean as Kim points out in this vid :(

  • This song is so perfect for Kim's Voice, that I love so much. ..It helps that she look great in the video too :)

  • And I thought Kim Wilde was American, but she's british.

  • Definitely one of my favorite songs by Kim! Thank you for sharing this rare treasure!

  • Kim Wilde's Teases & Dares album is probably her best album, because it contains great songs. For example this song, The Touch, is good pop music and many people love it. I honestly wonder how anybody can think that this is underrated music, because Kim Wilde's music is amazingly good.

  • wow great video!!

  • the bonnie tyler look suites her luv the hair...

  • mullet?

  • that little jewel has sexy shoulders!

  • Once again a truly wonderful song, not even long originally and tainted to end it quickly-what is it with this Madonna/Annie Lennox loving world and all its pointless male bands! This video is sadly not what should accompany a great, moody, aggressive piece of a rocking gem like this! Just another attempt to make Kim less serious I guess. Didn't work. No one does songs like this-no one ever has and no one ever will!!

  • Kim - Roger Taylor!

  • So 80's, so fabulous, I just love this song.

  • secret admirer 1985

  • 80s style, that time could music wins looooong time.

At this time music was music.

Kim was and is the best, 80s for eternity.

    Love it........

  • Uhaaaaa..why we don't go back in the 80s ... :(

  • Yeah, I do agree with you all the way! But even when we could go back...it would never be the same anymore! The past simply can't be re-called......

Kim's music from the eighties was the best!!

  • THIS SONG IS INCREDIBLE! And I love the video. I think it's legitimately fabulous.

  • The thing is that it's both sexy AND cool, I call it sexycool!

  • Crazy, but cool :)

    Great song!

  • Mitica Kim Wilde!

  • I wanna do a cover of this awesome song.

It's my little sister and I's favortie Kim Wilde song

  • exelente video de kim wilde mil gracias

  • brilliant!!!!!!

  • wow the beginning sounded like out of space by prodigy. did they sample from this or just the same synth?

  • Shares nearly the same concept as Adam Ant's Prince Charming. I wondered if they use the same director? Both had stepsisters in drag, Cinderella theme, etc.

  • Kim is still better than Baba.

  • Wish this would've been released as a single in the U.S when album came out, Think it could've done well.....cool video

  • Kim is so beautiful...

  • @kimbaliini Amen!

  • This video is fun. Kim's music was great back then.

  • I love the music of kim Wilde (up to about 1988!). Together Kim, her brother and her father were a very talented outfit.

  • @norrisonthespot Why only "up to" '88 ? Does that not include '88 ? Remember she had THREE superb Top Ten songs from her album "Close" in 1988 - "You Came", "Never Trust A Stranger" and the beautiful "Four Letter Word"

  • @ThePROTO1TYPE Because her earlier songs generally told a myriad of stories. Some were joyful some were dark. They were crafted through the dreams and experiences of three people (Marty, Rick and Kim) Yes we do agree about 'Close'. It was the last album of Kim's that I really enjoyed. The three songs you mention are exceptions that prove the rule. They are lovely songs among her very best. However in general her post 1988 songs were soppy and lacked the bite and interest of the earlier songs.

  • @norrisonthespot Yes, and if I'm correct, she really only had two singles post-1988 that made any sort of impact on the charts . "Love Is Holy" and the cover of "If I Can't Have You" (both of which reached number 16 ???) Would you agree that her self-penned songs lacked that special something that the songs written by Ricky and Marty had ? She was great though - I don't know if she or Kate Bush (phenomenal!) had the more chart hits for a British female soloist .

  • @ThePROTO1TYPE I think that she worked best musically when guided by her family ( e.g Rick's melodic keyboard work). Marty dealt with the business side and supported Rick with the song writing . For the first two albums the songs were written and produced by Rick and Marty. Then from 1983 Kim started to express herself and possibly felt a little restless. 'Fit in' and 'Shangri-la' were written by Kim in 1983. Both lovely. Rick and Marty were the rockers who also came up with the darker songs.

  • @norrisonthespot I didn't know the details of the song-writing and producing dynamic among the three but I do feel most of the weaker songs on her albums are the one's she wrote herself - for example "Hey,Mr.Heartache" and "Love In The Natural Way" were the two lowest placed singles from the "Close" album. Not that I want to take anything away from Kim - she was stunning (still is!) and sang marvellously well and was undoubtedly the vital cog in the hit-making machine that was the "Wilde trio".

  • @norrisonthespot I've always wondered about that frightening song "Child Come Away." Was that based on a real event?

  • @MaskedMan66 No, not as far as I know. Perhaps a Manson like Satanic event in America inspired them to write it. ??

The song 'Janine' however has always given me the impression that it may well be based on a true family event. (?) Kim really sings that song out from the heart. 'Sing it out for love'=wistful. 'Ego' =angry, 'Can you come over'=hopefulness. 'Stay awhile'= intimacy. 'The Second Time'=Passion. 'Water on glass'= hearing problems !!

Songs expressing life from every angle.

  • @norrisonthespot Or England; they have their share of loonies as well.

Very interesting rundown of the possible inspirations for those songs! And I think that's part of Kim's appeal: she sings songs (a) about things nobody else sings about and (b) about things everybody sings about, but in different and refreshing and original ways.

  • @MaskedMan66 Very intriguing song that one - I really like though.

  • @ThePROTO1TYPE I do too, even if it always gives me the creeps. The video is almost as unnerving, especially when the crowd turns around and everyone (except the Svengali) has the same face. It would be more terrifying if the masks the crowd wore were realistic, but whattaya do?

  • @MaskedMan66 Must go play the video again - straight away !!!

  • @ThePROTO1TYPE Keep the lights on!

  • I love Kim Wilde so much! This song is great, and she looks soooo beautiful throughout the clip! Yes, this should've been on her greatest hits! However, I've never quite come to terms with this video. The Cinderella theme and the stepsisters in drag were strange enough, but the dancing messengers were too much for me to handle. :) I have a feeling the idea for this video was conceived one night around 1 AM when Kim & Co were partying in a London Pub. But damn - she can SING and she is HOT!

  • I love Kim Wilde too. She is incredible!!!

  • Fully agreed in both points.

  • Nah, it was just your standard kitschy 80's video; just go with it and you'll have y'self an enjoy!

  • It is a great song. I know what you mean about the Cinderella theme and the dancing messengers in this video though. I feel the same way about it. But funny in a lot of ways probably because it's her silliest video. Kind of cheesy. But not knocking her, of course. She's always interesting at least.

  • Im still a fan of Kim Wilde and this song and the album "Teases & Dares is very good.

  • I used to be a huge fan of Kim Wilde back then. Her Teases&Dares album is one of the best she made!

It's a shame she turned a different direction in music since her Close-album....her music was better in the good old Eighties days!!

Come on people, I'm certainly not proud to listen to garbage like 'Breaking away' and stuff.

  • I love this song - it's moving, sexy, justbrilliant. The critics were not fair for Kim and "T&D" album.

I am still a big fan of Kim!

  • I love this song. First featured in the 80s teen movie, The Secret Admirer, that starred C. Thomas Howell and Lori Laughlin.

  • Forget to mention Kelly Preston.

  • one of my favorite 80's records, just watching the video puts you in such a great mood -oh oh so -right 80's we will never forget U

  • One of those songs that I heard when I was around 10 years old. I didn´t understand the lyrics but I loved the music anyway. Now I know the words but it´s still the sound that touches me. Maybe I´ll record the song with my own lyrics.

  • The immortal magic that bring This Immortal Song I meant.

  • And now back to the immortal magic with this song............

  • how could the critics call it a flop single? were they on drugs at the time?

    great song, by the way

  • Watching Kim Wilde is like to be on the summit of mount Everest. It s the same emotion. Its fantastic, just fantastic...

  • This song should have been a big hit for Kim because it is brilliant.

  • Amazing what changes in just 20 years. In the 1980's, the trashy Madonna's of the entertainment industry were just beginning to express their sleazy personas as if we should admire them... now....... we're inundated with the trash of the world & their drug habits, booze habits, 20 second marriages, tatoos, and sullen hateful attitudes. Ahhh haaaa. lol. Losers who can't see how junky they are. The 1980's were the best.

  • this is the bitchinest song ever!!!! ;)

  • Still got the 7" shaped picture disc of this. She's lovely! Brilliant song too.

  • I agree, this is so great song and Kim is lovely

  • Totally underrated song; should be on every "best of", yet it's on none.

  • Totally agree...

  • In complete agreement here too!!!!

  • I agree, this song should be on "greatest hits" of Kim Wilde

  • Briliant song and singer.

  • Don't understand why this was not at least Top 20. And Dancing in the Dark stalled too from her previous album. These were not her very best songs but waaaay better than alot of the stuff from 80's that went into the Top 20.

  • The video reminds me a female perspective on Adam Ant's Prince Charming video. Even has the same concept a little bit. That is what I get a bit right at the beginning.

  • Damn I wish I was born 20 years erlier. 1994 :(

  • The 80s were great! And Kim was one of the reasons why!

  • I remember I left a mix tape at my aunt's house. I recall this was the only song on the cassette that she didn't care for. But I still love this track. Although I always had a soft spot for Kim and her overblown dramatics. Apparently, the general public didn't agree with my taste!

  • I'm the general public and i'm agree with your taste;i got this one in 12"inch LP.may be the best version of all 12"!!!

  • Her first 4 albums rule!

  • I agree - a decent re-release package for them would be brilliant...

  • Yes!!!

  • I <33 KIMMMM + this song (:

    strange clip tho

  • the hairdoos were cool back than..

  • Yeah, do you or anyone else know how to make those hairstyles? I think they're awesome.

  • B-A-D hairdo's? You've gotta be kidding me... One of the things this world lacks is precisely those hairdo's. Reality cheque, kiddo! Goddamn!!!

  • Although this is quite a good song, it's not hard to see why it stiffed commercially given the video it was lumbered with - a poor relation of Prince Charming (with Pat Coombes as the Fairy Godmother) with a slightly odd Rentaghost vibe that doesn't really sit with Kim's sophisticated pop image.

    Chris

  • I don't remember this video or song at all and I WAS a BIG KW fan.

  • i like the video but it the song is much better than it.

  • No, that's her. I thought it was her. Wrong older lady.

  • The video itself has a very strong 80s British vibe, though. Gotta love the Brits, though. That old lady is possibly well known in the U.K. Who is she? She also appeared in the Art of Noise's Moments In Love.

  • OOps...I meant #56, but you get my point, shoulda been HUGE!

  • E X C E L L E N T M U S I C

    cheap video but

    shes's so dam gorgeous

  • coooool

  • The 80´s forever...

  • Yep, great music & bad hairdo's.

  • best female snger in U.K.

  • Kim Wilde should release her videos on DVD pronto.

  • Yet another great song and fun video from Kim!

Thanks for putting it up James!

  • Great song, btu the video's relatively wierd.

  • You get it's just a riff on "Cinderella", right?

    Damn, I shouldn't have explained.

  • I think, i've heard it the last time 15 years ago. I've forgot it. That's a shame.

  • if I had ever happened to "touch" Kim she would have learned some tricks for sure!

  • I think her husband might object-- and I know Kim would!

  • if she keeps me hanging on I'll go for it!

  • She knows she should never trust a stranger. I mean, who do you think you are? Child, come away. (Hey, this is fun! Your turn)

  • well I can't get enough of her(love?!).D'you mean to say you really want me to fly to cambodia and never see her again? She's the perfect girl and you can't change the way I feel!(it's becoming a little bit harder to find sentences that make sense!)

  • Agreed; it's kinda like dancing in the dark. You may be lucky on the first pass, but not the second time.

  • yeah if I took another step I could be kind of falling out, victim of my rage to love!

  • I agree. It's time we were breaking away from this competition schtick now and forever. Shame, it's been fun, but let's send the gag a million miles away, or at least as far as Cambodia.

  • ok you're the winner, it's always the same story with you kids(!)in america!

  • Tres weird... the e-mail about your latest posting was in French! Are you on the Continent, Monseiur? In any case, this has been enormous fun; thank you! We have to find another singer we love on YouTube and try this again.

  • ok anytime! and yeah I live in the"old" Europe,I make english studies at the university, gotta admit I really like your language 'cause it allows for a certain "elasticity" of reasoning and playing with words. Very entertaining!

  • Victor Borge certainly had a lot of fun with English, what with his "Inflationary Language."

  • The Fairy Godmother character looks so familiar; I feel certain I've seen her in shome Britih comedy show or other. Anybody?

  • A European British beautyqueen!

  • Why... is there a chef... in the dryer (or whatever that appliance is)???
