  • stop f...g around and rebuild the Panama canal instead!

  • Thats not a boat. Thats a ship.

  • At 1:19 Someones Phone goes off XD

  • If I a billionaire I'd buy a cruise ship and sail it with paying passengers so I never have a shortage of fresh ass on board.

  • There is a much simpler way to entice people back to the even more dangerous Sea Faring of the Trans Atlantic from Airplanes. Simply run a $200 million ad campaign showing a bunch of crashing planes and survival numbers.

  • @falchard This deserves to be a top comment.

  • like how much steel is uses

  • Hope it doesn't sink.

  • In 2014, when they finish the Panama Canal expansion, the size of the ship will no longer be a problem.

  • Makoto disliked this 38 times

  • Im on a billion dollar boat.

  • all that for a freakin balcony..??

  • Don't go crossing cape horn. Go to the new Panama Canal there building

  • nat geo is a CIA front.

  • "without balconies we can't have a transatlantic liner." Jeez, typical b.s.

  • Watch Al Queda bomb it

  • @GangstaDean67 Al Qaeda is a conspiracy theory. it's just a branch of the CIA.

  • @zakquack i suppose all 196 countries are working together to cover it up as well?

  • short please make it longer

  • After seeing titanic hell no and going through the world most dangerous passage?

  • There's a mistake at 1:13, the QM2 is a post-panamax ship

  • @RobForesti Finish the damn video before posting a comment.

  • we all know it's going to get hit by a wave and flipped over OR they'll hit an iceburge.

  • NICE BOAT

  • ive been on the queen mary 2 and my god that is one monster of a work horse

  • They should see if they can encourage who ever is in charge of the Panama canal to widen the canal. Isn't that possible. It make the trips safer, shorter, and more fuel efficient. That's just my opinion but I no nothing about sailing.

  • @vetwannabe8ball they already are. theyve been widening it for years. not for this cruise ship because they started widening before this ship was designed but instead because most cargo ships are too wide to fit.

  • @vetwannabe8ball I'm no expert either, but it sounds like a good idea to me.Bigger is better!

  • QE2, alluminum superstructure = firetrap. Evidently did not learn ANYTHING from the war in the Falklands.

QM2, travelling the horn = exposure to weather and waves that can sink even that behemoth.

Wonder to what extent the ownership has 'over insured' the ships for personal gain?

  • SO USE ALIMINIUM AND RE INFORCE CARBON FIBER

  • Click on Transcribe Captions under CC. Funniest thing ever!!!!! The CC is so messed up!!!!

  • i have Queen Elizabeth 2 model, and its very nice

  • Nice Boat!

  • Why didn't they just widen the upper decks over the limit and kept them shorter, instead of the widening the entire hull? Last time I checked, the width restrictions of the panama canal don't extend very far above the waterline.

  • @superhornet59

    Stability.

If you put a verry wide superstrure on top of a narrow hull, you decrease the ballance 10 fold, making her dangerously top-heavy. You have to increase her beam to make up for that. It's simple enough.

  • @theshipman Have you ever even SEEN an aircraft carrier?

  • FUCKIN SUPER CARRIER :D

  • good luck mickey....lol

  • NOKIA FOR LIFE

  • weak.... newest us aircraft carrier project cost about 13 billion usd.

  • @kalx007, building warships can not be compared to commercial shipbuilding. Governments can afford $9000 toilet seats and $500 spanners.

  • YouTube! and these damn advertisements!!!

  • like a modern-day Titanic.

  • Well you can forget passing though the Panama Canal.

  • risk the passenger for the balconies? just take a couple of rooms out

  • So it has to pass through the most dangerous waters in the world but the guy get's his balconies? Time to build a new panama cannal.

  • @kurtnelle New Panama canal is allready under construction, but it will take some time to finish it :)

  • Comment removed

  • It's really more then a $Billion boat. It costs millions to fuel this ship, supply it with not only food, but gourme food, and to staff and maintain her. It seems like a lot of pressure to be under to stay in the black. One wrong move and the ship loses a ton of money and could slip into the red.

  • I fucked my gf in there ;D

  • @paintggh

Lush. I bet some rich granny did it there too just b4 you got on. HA!!!

  • So wealthy customers that demand balconies, are catered for? Rather than keeping within the constraints of safety and the laws of physics. Evidently, wealth doesn't create intelligence?

  • I had sex in that boat.

  • @iCloudassassin OMG HOW COOL IS THAT?

  • And then they put it out to sea and it blows up

  • all for fukkin balconys lol

  • oh fuck, why is BP in the promoted video section?!

  • well that was a massive engineering fail

  • That looks like my boat

  • WE would take a trip on this ship and think what the stars in the cosmos would look like from the deck of this wonderous ship!

  • RMS Queen Mary 2: very bad boat easy to be capsized. Airplanes: safest way to travel.

  • ... a bigger...'ship!' and when they come this big... I feel the need for a flight-deck and a fleet of support/AEGIS craft to sally forth in my company! Icebergs!? Bah! I'll tow 'em to thirsty drought-raveged nations! I'm King-of-the-World!

  • ... "boat" A "boat!?!"

  • @SittingMooseShaman we're gunna need a bigger boat..

  • can she use the Suez Canal?

  • 1:20 NOKIA TUNE!!

  • Why limit size what they gonna go through those three places?

  • they posted this on my b-day

  • wow.. thats a nice boat

  • who is this Mickey? We need people like him on oil ships, I bet he is an advanced terminator model self equipped lazer beams to shoot down pirate ships..lmao!

  • MICKEY GETS HIS BALCONIES. THE TITANIC (UNSINKABLE) SANK !

  • i wonder is i could cut that boat in half and sell if for 500 million.

  • what is the name again the one of the most dangerous passage in the planet??

  • @kenorubay

    Drake Passage

  • titanic is still better

  • @rjwhyte08 NO, DUMBASS!!!

  • hey where is the 2nd part of the vid?? dammit!!

  • Where do the Brits get "aluminium" from "aluminum" ?

  • @SpeedyNeutrino43 This is not the only word we differ. Spelt Lieutenant, it's pronounced LEFTenant. A car engine is under the bonnet and the boot is where we put the luggage. A trunk is a very large suitcase and nothing to do with a car. And it's a lift that takes us to the top of a building.

Unfortunately, so many films are made in Hollywood and US Television is so popular here, "English" is fast becoming American but some innocent US phrases still bring a smile with our different meanings!

  • @SpeedyNeutrino43 Uh that's because how it is pronounced!

  • THESE DAMN ADS ARE KILLING ME

  • @ECWGuy420 use opera and and google how to block ads in opera works for me :D

  • it costs hundreds of thousands of dollars per panama crossing anyway. probably costs more tan that in fuel to go around south america though.

  • To Gotred: it would cost way more to widen the Panama canal than build this ship!!!!

  • y cant u hav balconies on a transatlantic liner?

  • somebody put this into perspective for me? this ship costs ONE billion dollars (approximately) to build yet the manned mission to the moon that Nasa cannot get funding approved for will cost over a hundred billion? why is it that expensive?

  • @Zurround100, this ship or the mission to moon? I guess the latter is so expensive because of all the R&D that needs to be done to make it safe, and the guys working on it are not doing it for free...

  • Ok, so they are building a new port in the panama canal for larger ships, so QM2 will fit through there, so they might as well just make her as wide as they can for the new port.

  • so luxury prevails over safety...... awesome -_-

  • soviel geld hat doch keiner ;-)

  • Wow, who was the script rider for this documentary? Cause I'd really like to point out what a dumb idea it was to bring up the term "Titanic" in relation to QM2 in the first 15 seconds. Yup, now I REALLY want to sail on this obviously unsinkable ship. Smooth move, exlax.

  • No one said the Queen Mary 2 is unsinkable, the Oasis of the seas is also compared to Titanic.

  • 1:14 no wider than the Panama Canal? QM2 cannot fit through the canal as she is a post 'Panamax' ship. The QE2 was a Panamax ship with dimensions of 964x105. QM2 will be able to transit the new locks at the Panama canal when they are completed.

  • 1:19 gotta love that ringtone in the backround noise. XD

  • @TheCrunchifiedOne yes that lust be a Nokia 5110

  • @TheCrunchifiedOne

    1:17

    "cell rings...man answers"

HEELLOOO!!!!!!! HUH!!! I'M AT A SHIP BUILDER'S MEETING!!!! YEAH!!!! ABOUT SOME BOAT OR SOMETHIN!!!! NO!!! HUH!! YEAH!!!!! ITS RUBBISH!!!!!

  • @TheCrunchifiedOne Jurassic park 3

  • @TheCrunchifiedOne make a song outta it

  • Where do the oars go?

  • you liked that eh,,,,i thought it had a place there too.

  • i love how they end with "but mickey gets his balconies" :D

  • iv'e seen QM2 3 times now but she's still beautiful!

  • thi is queen mary 2

    good vey good

  • Umm TiTanic Mutch

  • This should've been built in Britain.

  • It would have been nice but no yard was technically equipped or financially able to handle such a ship.

  • Well, I must say, not much intelligence here from some comments. I have sailed on this ship. First class, and I had my own balcony too. Cunard is King...er Queen. Oh, and it's not a boat, it's a ship.

  • if that ship sinks because they didn't want to renounce the balconies, it will be found in the great book of mankinds dumbest decisions

  • tell us how you really feel....

  • Cunard was building ships over a century before RCCL even existed. It built speed champions and some of the largest ships built in their time. They built liners that could go over 30 knots. RCCL cruise ships can barely do 20 and can't stand up to a storm like a liner can.

  • Titanic anyone?

  • wtf does that mean

  • @Seigu007.....are'nt you human....

  • BALCONIES!

  • Rather than making it higher and wider to get the balconies, couldn't they just make the top a half circle?

Would give much more "room" for balconies even if they were more narrow.

Also saw another video year or so ago about boats with flat bottom, would make it much more stable, still allowing more floors.

    could be wrong.

  • Flat bottom..on an oceanliner??

I really don`t think so. Riverboats in shallow water sure but flat bottoms and waves don`t mix well

  • acvossius (in case this ends up at top),

I am very sure they were insanely huge oil and crate ships.

  • Waves create a pendulum motion for ships, flatbottom ships have no keel, they would tip over, capseize and possibly sink. Can`t just slap a keel on the flat bottom, it would snap right off. Hull design on oceangoing ships are fairly uniform, a flat bottom would actually make it verry unstable.

  • I've never gotten into boats in general but, now know a bit more.

    Thanks for explaining :)

  • You're right about the hull design being fairly uniform, but not in the way you're thinking. Nearly all oceangoing ships, including the biggest cruise ships, have a flat bottom and no keel. It has little or no effect on stability.

Making a non-flat bottom, i.e. a bottom with a (dead)rise is more expensive. It's used in some ships, but generally shipbuilders try to avoid it.

  • Most ships in these days are built with a flat bottom. Judging from the shipyard pictures Queen Mary 2 also has one, or at least the deadrise is extremely small.

But then again the parallel midship section is pretty short, nearly inexistent, so there isn't really much of that flat part down there.

  • Balconies or Death, Balconies or Death.... Balconies.... Death.... Balconiiieeees....or.... Deathhh.... hummm BALCONIES!

  • i saw the actual episode

  • yeah Freedom of Sea's was just in port canaveral yesterday. its freekin huge!

  • I love QM2, i went on it a few years ago, so extravagant. I want to go on Freedom of the sea's or independence of the sea's though.

  • Man, you can't even talk without using words like pussy, shit or fuck. It's pretty pathetic to insult someone on the internet you know?

  • Why does everyone insist the Titanic be rebuilt? Honestly it would be bad taste and the ship wouldn't be famous had the tragedy not occurred. It wasn't anything special either as more luxurious and larger liners from rival companies were already in the work such as Cunard's Aquitania.

The QM2 is nice but I wish it had the more traditional lines of a liner rather then a bulky cruise ship.

  • zaaaaaaa

  • Mephilesthedark360 Sooooo right! :)

  • Nice boat.

  • I will be filming Queen Mary 2 on 10 October 2009 when she arrives in Halifax,Nova Scotia I will actually be filming the ship leaving the dockyards and it will be put on youtube. Thank you for uploading this very very interesting

  • I traveled on the Queen Mary 2 in 2004 and 2006. amazing feet of engineering. and you forget your on a boat.

  • can you say Titanic2??

  • They should stop making these lame ass ships and rebulid the Titanic

  • Solution: Make the panama canal wider.

    =D?

  • @Gotred i supposed thats because it would mean they had to buy land, destroy land, and dig tons of dirt.... Isnt it a historical landmark too???

  • @HksDrifter07 Yes But they are doing it anyways to meet the demand of larger ships. Construction started 2 years ago.

  • @Gotred They are bulding a new wider canal next to the old one.

  • @Gotred As costly as it may seem, it would not suprise me if they were to someday widen the canal. Ships are going to keep getting bigger and bigger.

  • @Gotred Actually, I think that there are plans to do exactly that. Actually, not the canal itself, but there are plans to build new sets of locks, parallel to the existing ones, which would accomodate wider container ships. I don't know how far along the project is, or when it will be completed.

  • the QM2 will only transit cape horn in january dring the world cruise season when the weather isnt at its worse also they wont go round cape horn if the weather is to greater risk

  • eek, hopefully not the next Titanic.

  • cape horn is nothing to that beast haha amazing design !

  • al-you-min-you-um, never heard of it pronounced like that.

  • Actually thats how its supposed to be pronounced. Its spelled aluminium. Check wiki

  • omg my friends bug me for saying it like that too...dumbasses

  • That's right! All over the world it's pronounced "al-ou-mi-ni-oum", only you americans are too lazy to pronounce it properly. "Aluminum", like you say, is actually wrong!

  • even though its spelled aluminum, still you wish to pronounce it like aluminium, theres not another "i" my incompetent little friend.

  • Incompetent? There is another "i" my little american friend. Just because you americans don't know it dosen't mean it isn't true! Go check the periodic table (Google, Wiki and so on...). The standard international name for theis element is ALUMINIUM! ;)

  • Google and Wiki..both made by americans...you hate us AMERICANS yet your everyday life is revolved around AMERICA... and when you say AMERICA we know you really mean United States. America is actually made up of several different countries like Canada, Mexico, Brazil etc. So educate your self about who your talking to before you make your self look like a stupid douche on youtube

  • Hi

I don't hate you americans, did I say that? But yes, actually I mean the US-citizen. Be careful if you really want to talk about education, you sure know how your education level is over there... By the way, do you speak any foreign language?

You don't have to explain me the meaning of a continent or a country, we learn something at school, but thanks. ;)

And about the inventions of you US-people: Now you have to educate yourself! You couldn't even build planes without the europeans!

  • lol. We have no need to learn your "foreign" language. For one thing English the standard in most countries for doing business. And inventions that us the "US" people invented... such as the lightbulb you use to light your home... or your cellphone... or CD's Or the first analytical electric computer or what about the advancements in medicine due to the US. How about the first heart transplant, and so forth. You couldn't even have the idea of talking to someone over the internet w/o the US.

  • Comment removed

  • Of course there's no need for you to lears "my" language. I have no need to learn french too but we do it at school, taht's called education!

Please educate yourself before posting: The glow bulb was invented 1920, the "De-la-Rue-Lamp", Edison just patented the carbon glowthread. The first mobile phone was invented in germany by the "Reichsbahn". The CD was invented by Sony, Philips and Bayer, a german...

  • James Russell invented the compact disk in 1965. James Russell was granted a total of 22 patents for various elements of his compact disk system. However, the compact disk did not become popular until it was mass manufactured by Philips in 1980.

The first Cell phone was invented by Martin Cooper. Yeah and last time I checked he did invent the lightbulb who gives a flying fuck about previous inventions. Simple thing is that they did it and they were a US citizen.

  • Silence yourself and I'll excuse your ignorance.

  • "...and I'll excuse your ignorance."

You americans are pretty arrogant, thinking you are the best eh? We will see...

  • LOL you assumed cos it's not how you spell it in America that everyone else is wrong

You probably think your country is the best in the world, freedom and liberty for all etc etc and all that tripe ...

  • I agree Americans are completely retarded who think they run the world bunch of fucking retards its bad enough having to live across the border from them

  • Lazy? With capitalism you actually have to work!!! Don't be dumb!

  • who has time for that! i tried pronouncing the word and it and me tired! i guess i'll go with aluminum its alot easier on the tonque!

  • It's just an American accent. It doesn't make us "lazy"

  • your just jealous of americans you bitch

  • No! I'm proud to be from Switzerland!

  • then dnt fuking watch it dumass

  • well it may not be what you like.

  • blow me

  • 1:21 CINGULAR FTW!!!!!!!!!!

  • WHOOO HOOO!! THE BOAT IS FINISHED< A BILLION DOLLARS.... sinks. lol

  • I hope not.
