You do not know what you are talking about.I use a dredge after studing it.It takes heaver materials, like mercury, lead, gold, from the stream,it does move the stream bed about 3 or 4 feet. The stream bed will move futher than that by itself in 2 to 3 hours, without flooding. After a small rain the material can move as much as a mile or more.I have noticed fish hanging around the end of my dredge looking for a handout.Fish eggs are damaged by a small rain more than a dredge.Look at how it is built.
THis is such a pile of BUll &^@# that it is not even funny.for it has ben proven by more people thaan you can think off. But as always they only show one point of viex and try to feed their agendas by fear. for the pictures they show there of fishi dying and or dead or from when the spawn is over not from what ever is being doen as they are dredging. for there is no damage that is being done.let alone them trying to show that is is a cause for flooding is also such a crap load i need my waders.
As most of the poster here, I totally disagree with this full of bull information that was put out on this video. I am also a gold dredger from Cali who has had his recreational pleasure put to a halt by some idiotic claim of environmental destruction and salmon depletion. What is really the cause of declining salmon runs is them nets being strung all the way across the river...lol. The prospectors have been made a scapegoat by the native americans (BTW, I am native american myself)......"Jagar"
nothing happening here that nature isn't already doing 24/7 and rain seasons bring down millions of tons of gravel and sediment. I watch the fish sit there at the nozzle fattening up the fish with free food! Disturb the gravel! The gravel is disturb always!!! Eco fascist!
nothing more than fear-mongering and lies. The environmental impact study proved the miners were in the right, but the eco-goons in control of the kalifornia gooberment went against the study and banned suction dredging anyway.
This whole situation makes me sick. Dredging has been band pending an environmental investigation and report. So we get treated just like common criminals, GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT! ( and here I thought it was innocent until proven guilty). So the environmentalists make a claim or charge against us dredgers and we get sentenced without a fair trial. I thought in a court case all evidence ( reports, findings ) had to be turned over to the accused. I've yet to see those or even hear of them.
This is bull crap! Not only misinforming, it violates our mining rights. These mining law have been in effect since 1872 and the law gives us the right mine. The United State government needs to prosecute the State of California for violating these laws!!! Mining built this country and with out it we never recover from this recession. The only way is "Drill baby drill" and mining!!
i just want to thank the mining community for coming together and speaking their mind on this issue all i have to say is if mining is that bad then i need to dump all the mercury, steel, and lead that i have found back into the water
(cont from below) Dreding removes silt and thus the fugus that attacks fish eggs and creates new, no cost spawning beds. Trust me when I say every state and Federal agency has their noses up our asses 24/7, so if there were even one valid point to this video, there would be an immediate stop to further dredging. One added benefit to dreadging is that once the overburden is broken apart, it is much easier for nature to keep the river more silt free. Get the facts straight. U have zero facts.
More useless drama by the radical left, which as always, doesn't have a clue as to what they preach. If they did, they'd know that dredging cleans rivers and streams, removes lead, mercury and other heavy metals which the state, federal and greenies have zero concern about. I've dredged "dead" rivers and streams, devoid of any sign of fish, but after as little as 30minutes of dredging, the fish show up to feed. We also create deep pools that nature long ago gave up on. (cont)
I would love to see the environmental impact study where these people get their facts. Also hopefully the environmentalists would also include the effects of tribal netting, decimating the salmon runs. It would be interesting to see the natural turbidity tests of a winter storm swollen river. Until they produce the evidence, here in america we are not guilty. Is this not so?
So its alright to throw as much lead in the watershed as possible, but not recover it? Ban fishing; I'll never return to California... absolutely crazy
Stupidity is abound in California with you lieing government and commercial fisherman and indian casino owners . You all are blaming use good people whom have a hobby ,to try and hide your real reasons to take from the fish and the environment so you can control and make the money. 3-4 thousand dredging people a year compared to two million fisherman and commercial fishurman ,Shit <common sense will tell you Bring your guns ,Iam usually quite a ways back in,how fucking bad do you want to get!!
If you are going to help he fish, fine. stop all activities that have a bearing on fish populations. Mining, Indian net fishing, Commercial fishing, Logging,Water Quality - from the spawning grounds to the ocean. These knee-jerk reactions from Sacramento are nothing more than half measures. TURN OFF THE PUMPS TO LOS ANGELS.
their talking about salmon?this was a scare by a small group!!trying like hell to make everyones lives miserable. they should have the shit sued out of them for this!!first they want to blame the dredgers, then the farmed salmon people cause they caused "sea lice"and the salmon didnt come in one year but made the biggest come back they had in many years according to fishermen!!dredgers know their ass from a hole in the ground, apparently these people do not!!!
It is well known that suction dredging causes little or no environmental harm to fish and biota; what many overlook are the many benefits that dredging provides such as increased spawning gravels, dredge made refugia, and yes, mercury remediation to name a few.
Dredge holes can provide a holding place for fish as they pass up the waterway on their migration path to and from the ocean providing a place to get out of the faster currents to rest.
Govenor Jerry Brown just extended the suction dredging moratorium for another 5 years. Until 2016. Everybody needs to unite and flex our power against this unconstutional law. Contact Brown and let them know what you think and how firmly you are against this.
You bunch of losers sure know how to lie. Who is the man talking in this video with no idea about what he is talking about? This jerk is clueless! Stop netting the fish and blaming the decline on people who have nothing to do with the decline that you people endorse with your illegal netting of everything living in the river. Making videos for others should be honest and not made by rogue indians who want to build a Casino on the river and need to show reasons to remove everyone else...
Dredging is helpful for the fish, it creates tailings for the fish to lay eggs. Winter floods are more destructive. It's a natural process. The real damage is the indians overnetting the rivers, killing large numbers of fish that would have spawned. They sell them for profit instead of catching what they will eat. I know because I've witnessed it from both ends. Lets regulate netting and prosecute the indians who try to make profit, like the white people did with the buffalo. Hypocritical!
Wow. The first words attached to the video are a pure, outright lie, and we're supposed to believe any garbage said in the video? When dredging was legal, before the indians selling truck loads of dead salmon in the backs of their trucks on the side of the road shut down the whole state because of the dredgers, I would have challenged you to go out and dredge without being in season or having the proper permit! This dead video should be in a truck by the side of the road.
This is just some propaganda trying to make miners look evil.....This is how bills, laws, and regulations that step all over and infringe on our rights get passed. they fabricate a "Danger" or an "enemy" and the sheep bend over willingly without question. With a little bit of research you will find that This is a weak argument that's based on total bullshit. California was built by prospectors and miners.
You know no matter how hard I try I can never seem to suck a fish up my nozzle. I tell what I can suck up however, a bunch of hooks and lead weights and fishing string.
Dam Environmentalist are NO better then the Taliban at killing are Liberty's and Freedom. How come there not being killed the same as the terrorist? These bastard Environmentalist are fact twisting liars! Purity dam soon are kids are gonna be standing on the EDGE of the road not being able to do a dam thing cuzz some fookn bug or some other made up BS. There the same sort that protest at a solders funeral. God's truth, these fookers need be rounded up and hunted down!
I should take my camcorders out with us dredging this coming summer and record exactly what affect dredging has on the environment. Even better, we could record the river before the start of dredging season, at the end of dredging season, and again at the start of the next dredging season. This "logical" approach would show what a small impact us dredgers have on the environment, especially when you see the amount of damage Mother Nature can do.
Lota of balona here. Lots of fictitious statements and wrong conclusions. People wasting their lives purveying false hoods. Still no one supporting the erroneous claims of the video.
the implication here seems to be that salmon don't successfully spawn in the mother lode rivers because of recreational gold dredging. very interesting notion since many of these rivers run into impoundments. a little checking into the facts behind what was a viable and fascinating industry will show that recreational dredgers could only dredge in designated drainages and then only during specific periods of the year when fish, in most cases containing no salmonid species, were not propagating.
You want suction dredging regulated? Ok what is your proposed regulation and how will it effect suction dredgers. There is a VAST distance between regulation and elimination. What is your proposal? What will YOU say when you meet the 14,000 Recreation Miners when it comes to that meeting? Do YOU have a plan to offer them? This video offers nothing but a one sided emotional view from what I can see.
I found it in about 5 minutes of searching myself.. So Mr. Klamathmedia, while this is by no means a full treatise on the effects of suction dredging, I do believe those cited in her quotes could probably give you all the info you would need to draw your own logical conclusion that dredging is not as detrimental as you have been led to believe or are leading other less informed individuals to believe as gospel. so I ask you where is your proof. Oh yeah there isn’t any so, good luck with that
I'm from montana cleaning the silt from the bed rock will help trout and salmon by curbing the spread of whirling desease from sculpin and other water insects living in the mud.
Bet ya 100 bucks you are a bleeding heart liberal that would love to increase taxes and let the government, who can't even balance a check book, control all our waterways.
These people that are trying to make an issue out of this never consider their own impact on the world. They are just busy bodies that need a punch in the mouth. When you find these people dont argue with them. Just feed the bears and fish with their asses.
That right let's see if you can't screw up elses business. That dredge stays in one spot and the average operator might move 15 yards of material. In a whole damn river. You are a fat overweight SOB think about your own impact with your big mouth self.
Maybe the Native Americans are upset because the agrarian lifestyle did not produce the invention of the "boomstick." If it had, the "evil" 49'ers would not have ruined the sacred environment. Of course, the peaceful Indians would never have used force to get these people to leave. They would of asked them nicely because Indians never fought each other or sacrificed anyone (Anasazi).
Mining in the 19th century was 1000 times worse for the environment than recreational dredging is today. Yet, there are still salmon. According to biologist, sea lice and the explosion of the beaver population are key factors in the decline of salmon. Nowhere on Wikipedia can I find "recreational dredging" as a factor in this decline. The people in your video have obvious agendas. Continued....
This is retarded.......its just moving the gravels and rocks around same thing a good flood would do.....is fishing outlawed yet there....it should be , dont want to disturb.... anything.......
An environmentalist going on record supporting commercial fishing? In California nonetheless! Write that one down. I want this ding-dong's number! I think I could sell her a bag of s#!+
There is a "Dredging Season" in every State in the West. Dredging is closed during Spawning season of fish. Very strict rules of when and where you can dredge but some people still lie and make it look like we dredge whenever we want and kill everything. But I guess it's hard for them to see real life with there head stuck up there butt.
Yes the problem here is that there are dams blocking the major waterflow wich is supposed to losen up the river beds this is the major problem.. the dredges turn up the compacted beds wich salmon cannot ley eggs in, wich is why the salmon then use these lossend beds at a later time very beneficial to the fish.. ive been dredging for years there isnt 1 nail 1 bullet 1 hook 1 fishing weight to escape the sluices grasp mercury has the same center of gravity to gold its a heavy metal it also stays
Wait, isn't that exactly what mother nature does on a much much MUCH larger scale? I mean doesn't the gravel and sediment move with the water? Isn't that how canyons are formed? I'm pretty sure it is. This is one of the most moronic videos I have ever come across. Comparing this to what happened in the early gold rush days is mind baffling. Plus these people are actually pulling the garbage out left behind from those days and present.
@RCjunkieUFO Yes the problem here is that there are dams blocking the major waterflow wich is supposed to losen up the river beds this is the major problem.. the dredges turn up the compacted beds wich salmon cannot ley eggs in, wich is why the salmon then use these lossend beds at a later time very beneficial to the fish.. ive been dredging for years there isnt 1 nail 1 bullet 1 hook 1 fishing weight to escape the sluices grasp mercury has the same center of gravity to gold its a heavy metal
It's very sad that so many uninformed, gullable folks believe this crap. "Suspended mercury"? Mercury has a gravity of 13.5. Heavier than lead people. Go Cal trout! Yeah stick a hook in a fish, then handle it out of water, disturb its mucous with your hands, high five your buddy and throw it back in the river. A true outdoorsman. You need to keep your wine and cheese eating, Yakima racked Subaru Outbacked gay ass in San Francisco.
I'm gonna go out every weekend and herd the fish away from these harmful areas; I want to do my part in saveing the environment; how can I make these gravels useful for spawning? can I take a rake and shovel and put these gravels back where they came from? I will not harrass the miners, they are struggling too in these hard times; we need to form a group
Like all wannabe do-gooders... you have no clue... Such a shame. I am not even a prospector but whow does gargling BS come naturally or does one go learn it somewhere??
like anything, theres pros and cons, imo the pros out weigh the cons. done responsibly with regards to habitat this seems to have little to no impact. although i imagine that if you dredged an entire section of river from shore to shore and over 100 feet long you might cause the bottom to become unstable and perhaps less inhabitable. during flood the river beds and deposits are rebuilt. perhaps size restriction and proper deposit of tailings is something to consider.
In the 1950 and 60 . when small suction dredging started in California . California Fish & Game started researching Salmon nesting areas and found, that the Derdging was braking up hard pack gravels . Making river Gravels loose and deep, So the Salmon & Steelhead hens could dig deeper gravel nest (A Reds is gravels with Eggs) The Hens then cover the Eggs, with loose gravel to hide and protect these Eggs .(Reds). Loose Gravel let water move though the gravel Oxygenating the Eggs.
Comment about what was said by the indians. .The on going fight with the indians over gill netting salmon on the lower Klamath River . Over fishing brood.stocks. Google ,Gill netting Klamath River .
Hey Moon-Doggie you're boring the love beads right off of me. How about some actual facts. Something smells funny & it's not the narrators hairy arm pits.
This women and guy are so full of it, they have not a clue to what dredging does for the fish. It gets rid of all the hard pack that salmon can't spawn in puts holes in the river bottom so that they can survive the hot days. Crap I could go on for hours this person should go to school and learn something about fish. Look at the Amazon River its muddy all the time and they have more fish and larger fish than anywhere in the world. Get a life
D**k-heads that don't know what they're talking about, trying to take away people's jobs, pastimes, and an awesome recreational activity that encourages people of all ages to get off the couch and have fun.... klamathmedia, you are one seriously SAD and MISINFORMED person.
If a fish population can survive a massive flash flood, then how is gold dredging going to wipe out them all...
your a terd huger and i fart in your general direction . you best watch your own crap when you flush your exploiting my water and dont forget about all that trash you poluter of our lands. dont forget about all that cabon you exhail.!!!!
see the funny thing is, is that gold dredging is way good for fish they enjoy so much the insect colonies dug up by the dredge then the colonies are formed again in weeks or a month again and then the rock deposits are washed away in the winter there is no harm done to the envoirenment also about the indians (i am not rasict) they dont bother the indians anymore so no harm done again its pointless to rant on us gold miners
This week, on the Arkansas river north of Buena Vista, Colorado this week there are 3 power dredges working the river. 2 of them are working the river in a respectful, non damaging way. The third is destroying the area he is working in by undercutting banks (not allowed in Colorado), stopping and redirecting a branch of the river and infilling large natural holes where the fish live. These areas of the river can now be walked over. It is people like this that ruin it for everyone.
Is this a joke? So with this logic after every major rain, the river is all tossed about and murky, it's destroyed? Another LA LA land liberal making crazy and unfounded claims. This is almost a "reefer madness" moment..... I enjoyed it thoroughly. Thank you for the head shaking, eyes closed laughs. Do us all a favor and go pet some bears.
What a lode of crap this clip is look how hypocritcal you are klamathmedia first of all you show the commercial fisherman, natives netting fish proberly in ther thousands.....and gold miners are the 1,s getting the blame for poor fish numbers!!! WHAT a JOKE....i challange you klamathmedia to find 1 fish killed buy dredging??? what about global warming do you blame the miners for that to?
What a lode of crap this clip is look how hypocritcal you are klamathmedia first of all you show the commercial fisherman, natives netting fish proberly in ther thousands.....and gold miners are the 1,s getting the blame for poor fish numbers!!! How much money will the Indians get this time? As I recall the received a large pay off from CA, after the last suit. Also the dredging was not "largely unregulated" as your disceription reads. The state had many regulations for dredgers, like seasons, and dredge size to name a few.
Tell us the truth did All Gore help to make this movie? Why not blame global warming for a decline in salmon? if there is a decline. Even if there isn't a decline you could make that part up too! Go for the gold!
This is bull how much money did the indains pay you to make this garbage i guess every miner should take all the mercury and lead we have ever dredge out of the rivers and steams and put it back mabey that would make all you tree and fish huggers happy.I fish and dredge and the only time i've ever killed a fish was to eat it and it was caught on a pole and not the kind you fags smoke.Quit smoking crack because we love the outdoors and take better care of it than most people.
i cant believe how stupid people can think. I have heard from some people that they were dredging a stream that had very scarce salmon in it. Guess what? 9 years later the salmon are abduntant! cant believe these retards.
This is outrageous. Have you ever seen a river At its 25 year(or yearly runoff) flood stage? the WHOLE river is disturbed and all of the gravel is mixed up. Recreational dredges only account for less than 0.5% of the river at most being disturbed yearly! Up here in alaska we have strict laws governing dredging and we have extremely low water in the winter so the fish absolutely love all of the dredge holes and tailings! I dont want to kill the fish as i fish for kings but this is outrageous!
This video is crap. Everything in it is overdramatic and heresay. Please publish findings that conclusively state what you are saying is fact. Maybe everyone is jealous that they don't have a dredge, or they don't get to enjoy the miner's free, happy lifestyle. I'm only 24. I'm about to go dredging on my own for the first time. If I can make only a $1000/mo salary, I will be one of the happiest people alive. Before you hate on dredging, try it! You might find that you've been missing out on life
I have spent a lot of time on the Trinity and Klamath river but have never seen a traditional dip net used as on this video. All of the netting I have seen has been with gill nets, I have seen hundreds somtimes thousand of fish killed by these same nets in a single day depending on the area and the fish run. I have never seen a dredger kill a fish or even thought it possible.
cleans the water by takeing out mercury and lead which are more dangerous to the fishlife then moving the riverbottom. the yearly floods usually distort the riverbottoms and fish beds anyway and if they have to stop dredging then they should also have to stop fishing for the same amount of time for the fish to recover. just cause you suck up rocks doesn't mean that you are killing the aquatic life on those rocks. if it weren't for the first gold rush then california wouldn't be what it is today.
This is pure propoganda BS. Fish populations explode in rivers where dredges work. Winter floods move everything in the river. Envoronmental whacko's don't mind lying or assuming if it helps their cause. Recreatiional genocide? LOL. Fishermen kill many more fish than Dredges .They recover the mercury not uncover it. California is screwed because of Liberal liars and dupes. Learn the truth, use your brain not your feelings.
This video is a irresponsible presentation of modern day dredging. This is propaganda from native Americans trying to save the gold for themselves . The indian in the film calls dredging "recreational genocide". I am 25% Cherokee and this video is crap. I will continue to dredge and America is being sold out with greed and politicians getting kickbacks from casinos. I am absolutely irate with this. Lock and load.
Its crap. The fact is The people fishing can fish anywhere. as opposed to very little remaining PUBLIC REC LANDS. That are available to minors. They just don't like the noise. Further more I remove mercury from the water. It has to be removed from the gold at home with acid. Not to mention that it occurs naturally. Not all mercury is left over from the old mining days.
In some locations excavations may improve fish habitat. Pools can be temporarily formed or deepened by dredging. Deep scour may intersect subsurface flow and create pockets of cool water during summer, which can provide important habitat for fish (Nielsen et al. 1994). At low flows, increased water depth can provide a refuge from predation. (Harvey & Stewart 1991). observed that all the fish occupying a riffle during late summer in Butte Creek, California, moved into a dredged excavation nearby.
Dredging does not kill any fish unless you step on one or intend to catch it and eat it, plus no one dredges when fish spawn.
Hydraulic washing of the mountain does pollute water by making it too murky and muddy, but It is not allowed in California.
Using Mercury kills fish, animals and people, but again the Modern Prospector does not use mercury like they did many years ago. When prospectors find mercury, they take it out and dispose of it properly.
Even though Fish & Game denied the petition, Prospectors and Miners alike agreed to allow the restrictions in most of California to help the fish that don't need help.
2.2 Million Fishing License over 3000 dredge permits.
Even though I am a fisherman, five fish per angler at 2.2 million = 11 million fish taken out of the water. maybe fishing is the reason there is no fish. hmmmm
a proper gold dredge setup will not re-suspended mercury in the water but will trap it in the sluice for the miner to turn into a responsible hazardous waste disposer. This video is full of bull shit! Look at the rivers durng a yearly flood storm, that river can move a rock the size a decent truck! that means it moves MOST OF ALL of the gravel and re deposites it!
This video is a pile of crap !! I don't believe one word of it. There is no way dredging even remotely disturbs the water compared to a rain storm or a spring ice thaw. Any river that has gold in it has the power to move boulders down it the size of volkswagens. If the salmon eggs can make it through that a dredge is harmless..Fools !!!
"The "red" (rock pile salmon spawn in) is then washed out, along with the eggs, during the high water in the winter, before the eggs hatch in the spring."
That's a Lie right there Salmon Eggs hatch no more than 30-45 days from the time they are fertilized.
Mother nature destroys more in one flood, than a person can do in a year !
Gold is NOT the only heavy metal removed while suction dredging !
what about LEAD, what about MERCURY ???!!!
I have personaly removed a LOT of lead from local waterways that feed directly into lakes, Lakes that people fish, and EAT those fish. Is that destuctive or CONSTRUCTIVE ??!!
this is just more enviromental WACKO LIES ! THUMBS DOWN !!!
We all love and want to protect our beautiful Country. And the best part of our Country is FREEDOM!!! For heavens sake, all our grandchildren are going to have left is right to work and pay MORTGAGE INTEREST!! Weekend? Recreation? whats that Grandpa? Well Jr, back in the day you could go to the wilderness with more than a walking stick and granola...........
Come on maaan!!! This video us utterly void of any credible science dredging is harmful to fish. What it's full of is pathetic pandering to the politico's in Sac it was targeted for. When did an Enviro ever care about negative Economic results? When he thinks it will get him what he wants!!! What does he want? Anyone taking a "machine" outdoors off pavement to be criminalized.
This video is so full of lies. What about the dam that was built back in the 30's that now seems to have a real bad impack on the"Klamath" RIver in Oregon and keeps the proper water flow that is not being released to provide water when it is needed...The K. Indians are just trying to keep miners and others from enjoying the rivers. I've also heard that they want to grow "pot" and don't want anyone to find their stashes....This video is just full of B.S.
Never in my life have I witnessed such lies and misconstrued information being allowed to be posted in a public forum. These lies are directed at the ignorant and the easily confused. The dredgers are not in the water when the fish eggs are present. The California Department of Fish and Game has already regulated the seasons where and the water ways where the dredgers can operate. There are also other limitations placed on the dredgers that eliminate the effects of dredging on the fish.
What a pile of garbage! Not only does dredging stir up a sediment choke system, (thanks to logging) it creates summer time cool spots for smolts in the smaller systems that are being sucked dry by all the city slicking dwellers! As far as Fishing putting money back in the system, they havent given us a decent fishing season in two years now! Reduce or closed seasons, increased fishing liscense's? I fish, hunt, everything outdoors including gold mining. Pick a better fight. Eureka Ca
(1) What do you mean the New 49ers just recently bought up mining claims! They've had these mining claims for decades! (2) Recreational genocide? And who's firing guns over the heads of miners! Leaf Hillman is proving he is just an angry extremist. (3) Someone needs to do an audit/Insp on Mr.Bitts fishing boat to make sure it complies with CARB & other state laws. (4) If any these so called concerned people really cared about the salmon. They would stop killing & eating them. Go eat TOFU.
These enviromental waco's are full of shi...hell bent on destroying every freedom we have as americans. I am fuc...ing sick of it. Let us stop surfing, boating, kayaking, diving etc as they all stress the fish out... FO you silly freaks. I have dredged since I was 13 years old. The only fish I killed was with a pole. The indians and enviro's just want you out of the public lands that belong to all of us. Anyone with half a brain can see that. More gay SF political bullshit.
Yes, I lied........one more thing. How come after 5,757 views not one response supporting the claims of this video. Other than the producer of this video's response "show me, show me." . That is your job to show us.....it's your comments that need supporting and you have not done it.
Maybe people who support the claim are too busy fighting all the disastrous effects of environmental degradation caused by the continued exploitation of natural resources.
@klamathmedia Maybe the people who support the claim are armchair experts, sitting on their fat butts, driving their hybrid cars to save the planet, and can't be bothered in general to do anything useful?
@klamathmedia Like I commented to mendoAu, you had your analysis before you did your analysis. Look at all the videos, fish love the dredger. Fish stay where they feel comfortable and not in danger. How is it dangerous to remove heavy metals and minerals; like mercury from the water???
You use a computer? sure you do, you made your posts. Where did the gold come from in your PC?
You give a phone number for people to call! Where does the gold come from in your phone?
People like you complain about animals being killed for food so you won't eat meat but don't say a word about the chemicals seeping in the ground to help grow food for you!
You sit back and complain about trout but don't say a word to your governor about the children that are misssing or about changing the laws about kidnapping our children.
It's people like you that protest a funeral of a dead soldier because you can because that soldier died to give you the right to do so!
It's people like you that need to get a life and stop making up things to complain about because you have nothing better to do.
With the controls impossed on dredging the situatiion becomes one of Federal Mining Rights. I'm afraid that law suits will be using up valuable court time when Ca. is in dire straits and should focus on helping those who want or need the income from this mining activity. Few things contribute to the rural economy, prospectors are one of them.
As for the Klamath River's problem with warm water conditions, dredging has nothing to do with that except what I consider a benefit for the fish by the river bottom being excavated into deeper holes (dredging) thus creating deeper, cooler water pockets for fish.
If anyone was to take a minute and compare the video segment picturing the raging river (which most rivers in Ca. do for several weeks/months per year) to the dredge activities pictured I doubt that one would reach any other conclusion than the dredging operation is very insignifacant.sp.?
I find it interesting that the gentlemen from Cal Trout has opposite facts about river dredging than his counterpart, Trout Unlimited, has stated. Anyone can Google this fact and come to thier own conclusions. The use of dredges (non-gold type) in rivers to restore the river bottom is wide-spread in the United States. It is beneficial to "stir" the gravels and sediment much like mother nature herself did during winter/spring runoffs before so many dams were installed.
We never said dredging happens WHEN spawning is happening. What the biologist stated was: the gravel pile FROM dredging, that are left behind, look like spawning habitat to salmon, they then spawn there, and this a unstable, unsuitable spawning ground. The "red" (rock pile salmon spawn in) is then washed out, along with the eggs, during the high water in the winter, before the eggs hatch in the spring.
fuck them wisky niggers should'a killed em all when they had a chance, they just land greedy like everybody else, mabe we should just give all our land to the fucking gooks, c how they treet it, thier the real reson the salmon have declined but noone wants to point the finger thier oh no that would make americans look bad
@klamathmedia the salmon cannot spawn in the hard pack that dredgers target! and its not dredging that has led to the fishes distruction! its loss of habitat, silt from logging, over fishing by commercial, recreational and every yurok or hoopa that nets the river! Not dredging!
Salmon need very particular place to spawn and dredge piles fool them to thinking they have found this. Please watch the video if you are going to comment and claim we don't know what we are talking about. If you can find a scientific study that disagrees with the biologist in this film, please post that.
@klamathmedia Post the study? Your the one making the accusation in the first place. Please post your study, you know the study that Walt is getting his supposed "facts".....Or are Phd. Walt's statements supposition and not based on facts of a study?
@klamathmedia no when you dredge the slamon use the turned up dirt for their reds (if you dont know what a red is it is a salmon nest) they dont fake them
do any of these people think all of japans fishing boats just off our coast has any thing to do with the problem? time for the usa to demand these swine go away. the indians all but block the rivers with there nets , they are not the environmentalist you are trying to make them out to be, and let me take this opertunity to mention that your Casinos are crooked as a dog,s hind legg!
Nobody seems to mention the REAL problem! Fertilizer drainage from farming is lowering the oxygen level in the water. Lowering the fish population. Dredging actually aerates the water, removes lead, mercury & other heavy metals. California has NO mercury abatement program where miners turn in found mercury to the state. Oregon has one. The reason California doesn't have one is because that would be PRO-MINING & we can't have that in the Peoples Republic of California.
Alaska fishing is among the best in the world and they have studies which are totally opposite of these claims..... With improved fish spawning areas. Walt Duffy Ph D... OK if cracker jack says so....
California regulates everything to death, if game and fish thought it was a problem they would further regulate it. Give me a break which "lobby" has more clout in CA. 3,000 rec. miners or millions of fisherman? this rings of bad propaganda. I dont mine, but I hunt and it sounds like the same kind of attack on something somebody does that the do gooders dont like. Maybe they don't like the noisy engines?
I thought that I have seen an heard all of the false BS before, but this takes the cake. Tree/fish hugger have now stooped to lies and false propaganda in the form of a video. Yes fish eat the food discarged from the dredge but the beniffits are long term, as the river beds are now living again once discharged from the sluice to have water and oxygen flow through the gravels giving life to refreshed gravel bed, the same as floods did prior to dams. Over 260 nets were in use by Indians in June
look what the tva did in tennessee.objecting to a dam because of a darter fish.
they did it anyway, flooded thousands of acres of farmland, LITTERALY buldozed peopels homes. now the gov is worried about fish? GOV wants gold supplies!
Look at the cherokees..uncle sam was afraid the indians would hurt themselves playing with all that smokey mountain gold!! so they make a "pretty scenic park"
(not to mention the accidental fact of all the gold that was there)
the reason why it is now recreational mining is because the goverment won't let you spend your gold like money, because it is worth a hundred times more than that piece of paper in your wallet. The part of the video where they show the river in flood stage its an unspeakable amount of times worse then when any dredges are running. They want the salmon back then every one in caly. should stop fishing for them
Any one who sees this video, it is complete bunk. There has been numerous studies that support the miners position on dredging, and not one that supports the claims made in the fine little piece of propaganda.
2 Challenges for the producers of this video.
1. Produce your scientific study to back up you claims for everyone to see.
2. Post the specific gravity of mercury and have someone explain how the mercury can be in "suspension" and float through a system designed to trap heavy materials.
throwing your line in, {or gill net} is the fastest way to deplete the fisheries. The kuruk and fisherman are the main cause of the lessening fish population. If the dredgers have to stop for a new study to be conducted, then the fisherman and the indians should also be prohibited from the waters till the study is completed. Fare is fare, however life is not fare. Nothing ever is. So, we have to fight these dumb ass'es.
DFG found no evidence that dredging hurts fisheries. Storms disturb fisheries much more than dredging. Dredging is prohibited during spawning, rejuvenates spawning gravels, feeds fish, and removes lead and mercury. Irrational do gooders, idiot judges, and lustful politicians ignore facts. Dredging was banned statewide, not just in salmonoid streams. This issue is about political power not fish preservation. They've killed mining just like timber. Where is the Karuk and Caltrout fishing ban?
Klamathmedia....how much did you get paid to concoct such unfounded misinformation? Just another misinformed, unresearched, we got the money, post it up we dont care, bunch of BS. Klamathmedia, you should be ashmed of yourselfs for not getting both sides of the "real story" before posting such stuff. It does take time to do proper research which translates into costs in which you did not do, but on the other hand, you got your monies.

mining for gold is largely unregulated in California.
gee you read that and you think there are no rules or regulations. takes a team of lawers just to find out if its ok to mine. there are thousands of enviromental laws and state and fedral laws. just to get ready to mine.
75% of the smolts never make it out of the estuarary bercause of bird and seal predation
the fuckin Karuks (read crooks) arent even a recognized tribe and yst are allowed to fish with gillnets. and we are not recreational miners we are Mineral estate grantees .... you greenies are so good at laws, look that one up
this video is a misleading piece of crap produced by liars and a bunch of wining outfitters that think the river should only be used for THEM to make money..
Here in northern California in San Fransisco Bay, salmon used to spawn up the Walnut Creek, however the numbers have declined in the past couple of years. Now I can guarantee you there has NEVER been any dredging on the Walnut Creek, EVER! So why no more salmon? Dredging? I think not! LIES all LIES in order to control.
Hey look everyone i found a doctor to get me off of my murder charge....sarcasm aside, these are very supid people. They need to look at the decline of fish since they put the sea lion on the endangered list, you know that cute furry mammal that eats 100 lbs. of fish a day by taking a bite out of the mid-section and discarding the rest.

Genesis1313 3 months ago
More useless drama by the radical left, which as always, doesn't have a clue as to what they preach. If they did, they'd know that dredging cleans rivers and streams, removes lead, mercury and other heavy metals which the state, federal and greenies have zero concern about. I've dredged "dead" rivers and streams, devoid of any sign of fish, but after as little as 30minutes of dredging, the fish show up to feed. We also create deep pools that nature long ago gave up on. (cont)
Genesis1313 3 months ago
I would love to see the environmental impact study where these people get their facts. Also hopefully the environmentalists would also include the effects of tribal netting, decimating the salmon runs. It would be interesting to see the natural turbidity tests of a winter storm swollen river. Until they produce the evidence, here in america we are not guilty. Is this not so?

It is well known that suction dredging causes little or no environmental harm to fish and biota; what many overlook are the many benefits that dredging provides such as increased spawning gravels, dredge made refugia, and yes, mercury remediation to name a few.
Dredge holes can provide a holding place for fish as they pass up the waterway on their migration path to and from the ocean providing a place to get out of the faster currents to rest.
MrMickeymouse2 5 months ago
Govenor Jerry Brown just extended the suction dredging moratorium for another 5 years. Until 2016. Everybody needs to unite and flex our power against this unconstutional law. Contact Brown and let them know what you think and how firmly you are against this.

Making videos for others should be honest and not made by rogue indians who want to build a Casino on the river and need to show reasons to remove everyone else...
ReedLukens 6 months ago
Dredging is helpful for the fish, it creates tailings for the fish to lay eggs. Winter floods are more destructive. It's a natural process. The real damage is the indians overnetting the rivers, killing large numbers of fish that would have spawned. They sell them for profit instead of catching what they will eat. I know because I've witnessed it from both ends. Lets regulate netting and prosecute the indians who try to make profit, like the white people did with the buffalo. Hypocritical!

This dead video should be in a truck by the side of the road.

Also, fish love dredges, seriously.

the implication here seems to be that salmon don't successfully spawn in the mother lode rivers because of recreational gold dredging. very interesting notion since many of these rivers run into impoundments. a little checking into the facts behind what was a viable and fascinating industry will show that recreational dredgers could only dredge in designated drainages and then only during specific periods of the year when fish, in most cases containing no salmonid species, were not propagating.

Isn't that how canyons are formed? like anything, theres pros and cons, imo the pros out weigh the cons. done responsibly with regards to habitat this seems to have little to no impact. although i imagine that if you dredged an entire section of river from shore to shore and over 100 feet long you might cause the bottom to become unstable and perhaps less inhabitable. during flood the river beds and deposits are rebuilt. perhaps size restriction and proper deposit of tailings is something to consider.

How much money will the Indians get this time? As I recall the received a large pay off from CA, after the last suit. Also the dredging was not "largely unregulated" as your disceription reads. The state had many regulations for dredgers, like seasons, and dredge size to name a few.

You might find that you've been missing out on life
bigmikenm505 1 year ago
I have spent a lot of time on the Trinity and Klamath river but have never seen a traditional dip net used as on this video. All of the netting I have seen has been with gill nets, I have seen hundreds somtimes thousand of fish killed by these same nets in a single day depending on the area and the fish run. I have never seen a dredger kill a fish or even thought it possible.
jkingstrom1 1 year ago 2
cleans the water by takeing out mercury and lead which are more dangerous to the fishlife then moving the riverbottom. the yearly floods usually distort the riverbottoms and fish beds anyway and if they have to stop dredging then they should also have to stop fishing for the same amount of time for the fish to recover. just cause you suck up rocks doesn't mean that you are killing the aquatic life on those rocks. if it weren't for the first gold rush then california wouldn't be what it is today.

Since I can't add a link to another site, check out: " Suction Dredging Benefits Fish Habitat " on YouTube.
InlineSkater44 1 year ago 3
In some locations excavations may improve fish habitat. Pools can be temporarily formed or deepened by dredging. Deep scour may intersect subsurface flow and create pockets of cool water during summer, which can provide important habitat for fish (Nielsen et al. 1994). At low flows, increased water depth can provide a refuge from predation. (Harvey & Stewart 1991). observed that all the fish occupying a riffle during late summer in Butte Creek, California, moved into a dredged excavation nearby.

BULL SH**
Dredging does not kill any fish unless you step on one or intend to catch it and eat it, plus no one dredges when fish spawn.
Hydraulic washing of the mountain does pollute water by making it too murky and muddy, but It is not allowed in California.
Using Mercury kills fish, animals and people, but again the Modern Prospector does not use mercury like they did many years ago. When prospectors find mercury, they take it out and dispose of it properly.
InlineSkater44 1 year ago 2
Even though Fish & Game denied the petition, Prospectors and Miners alike agreed to allow the restrictions in most of California to help the fish that don't need help.
2.2 Million Fishing License over 3000 dredge permits.
Even though I am a fisherman, five fish per angler at 2.2 million = 11 million fish taken out of the water. maybe fishing is the reason there is no fish. hmmmm
InlineSkater44 1 year ago 3
a proper gold dredge setup will not re-suspended mercury in the water but will trap it in the sluice for the miner to turn into a responsible hazardous waste disposer. This video is full of bull shit! Look at the rivers durng a yearly flood storm, that river can move a rock the size a decent truck! that means it moves MOST OF ALL of the gravel and re deposites it!
rcsupercubbuilder 1 year ago
This video is a pile of crap !! I don't believe one word of it. There is no way dredging even remotely disturbs the water compared to a rain storm or a spring ice thaw. Any river that has gold in it has the power to move boulders down it the size of volkswagens. If the salmon eggs can make it through that a dredge is harmless..Fools !!!

I've also heard that they want to grow "pot" and don't want anyone to find their stashes....This video is just full of B.S.
chalmersbryant 1 year ago 2
Never in my life have I witnessed such lies and misconstrued information being allowed to be posted in a public forum. These lies are directed at the ignorant and the easily confused. The dredgers are not in the water when the fish eggs are present. The California Department of Fish and Game has already regulated the seasons where and the water ways where the dredgers can operate. There are also other limitations placed on the dredgers that eliminate the effects of dredging on the fish.
gazbill6740 1 year ago 2
What a pile of garbage! Not only does dredging stir up a sediment choke system, (thanks to logging) it creates summer time cool spots for smolts in the smaller systems that are being sucked dry by all the city slicking dwellers! As far as Fishing putting money back in the system, they havent given us a decent fishing season in two years now! Reduce or closed seasons, increased fishing liscense's? With the controls impossed on dredging the situatiion becomes one of Federal Mining Rights. I'm afraid that law suits will be using up valuable court time when Ca. is in dire straits and should focus on helping those who want or need the income from this mining activity. Few things contribute to the rural economy, prospectors are one of them.
mendoAu 1 year ago 3
I'm a fisherman and a miner. I kill a few fish a year fishing and most are quite tasty however I have never killed a fish dredging.....go figure.
mendoAu 1 year ago 5
As for the Klamath River's problem with warm water conditions, dredging has nothing to do with that except what I consider a benefit for the fish by the river bottom being excavated into deeper holes (dredging) thus creating deeper, cooler water pockets for fish.
mendoAu 1 year ago 3
If anyone was to take a minute and compare the video segment picturing the raging river (which most rivers in Ca. do for several weeks/months per year) to the dredge activities pictured I doubt that one would reach any other conclusion than the dredging operation is very insignifacant.sp.?
mendoAu 1 year ago 5
I find it interesting that the gentlemen from Cal Trout has opposite facts about river dredging than his counterpart, Trout Unlimited, has stated. Anyone can Google this fact and come to thier own conclusions. The use of dredges (non-gold type) in rivers to restore the river bottom is wide-spread in the United States. It is beneficial to "stir" the gravels and sediment much like mother nature herself did during winter/spring runoffs before so many dams were installed.

you people dont no what your talking about, for 1 thing you dont dredge when salmon spawn.get a clue and stop trying to take are rights away

InlineSkater44 1 year ago
@klamathmedia the salmon cannot spawn in the hard pack that dredgers target! and its not dredging that has led to the fishes distruction! its loss of habitat, silt from logging, over fishing by commercial, recreational and every yurok or hoopa that nets the river! Not dredging!
mrfish40 1 year ago
Salmon need very particular place to spawn and dredge piles fool them to thinking they have found this. Please watch the video if you are going to comment and claim we don't know what we are talking about. I wonder how many lead fishing weights/lures Mr.Curtis Knight or Mr.David Bitts has put in the water ways during their lifetime?
allerich1 2 years ago 2
Nobody seems to mention the REAL problem! Fertilizer drainage from farming is lowering the oxygen level in the water. Lowering the fish population. Dredging actually aerates the water, removes lead, mercury & other heavy metals. California has NO mercury abatement program where miners turn in found mercury to the state. Oregon has one. The reason California doesn't have one is because that would be PRO-MINING & we can't have that in the Peoples Republic of California.

(not to mention the accidental fact of all the gold that was there)
masonicknight3 2 years ago
the reason why it is now recreational mining is because the goverment won't let you spend your gold like money, because it is worth a hundred times more than that piece of paper in your wallet.

Mark27284 2 years ago 3
throwing your line in, {or gill net} is the fastest way to deplete the fisheries. The kuruk and fisherman are the main cause of the lessening fish population. If the dredgers have to stop for a new study to be conducted, then the fisherman and the indians should also be prohibited from the waters till the study is completed. Fare is fare, however life is not fare. Nothing ever is. So, we have to fight these dumb ass'es.
badger0707 2 years ago 2
DFG found no evidence that dredging hurts fisheries. Storms disturb fisheries much more than dredging. Dredging is prohibited during spawning, rejuvenates spawning gravels, feeds fish, and removes lead and mercury. Irrational do gooders, idiot judges, and lustful politicians ignore facts. Dredging was banned statewide, not just in salmonoid streams. This issue is about political power not fish preservation. They've killed mining just like timber. Where is the Karuk and Caltrout fishing ban?
