Quite good sir. I believe, though, that you could use the wireless chip nRF24L01 to communicate with the iPhone directly from the Atmel microcontroller; am I right?
(Check out eBay for complete PCBs with the nRF24L01 plus all other components already soldered; cost virtually nothing).
I did something similar and it can work, but you are likely to Need some more equipmemt like Sensors unless you can make shure , that nothing Is going to push the vehicle off its original path...
Anybody please correct me if i made a mistake and sorry for My Bad english^^
Whitout using the iphone do you think this car and it's code could do the same exact path over and over again? I think if go from point A to B and return to point A, the x an y values would lead you to the same path?, if so you could make a motion control camera rig
So how exactly do you get your iPod to work with the computer? Like, what's that screen you're on that detects touch and everything? And does the computer have to be hooked up the whole time? Is there a way you can control it without the direct connection to the computer?
The iPhone will go to the computer then the computer will go to the nerdkit and the nerdkit will go to the remote control and the remote control will tell the car to go.
the transistor can be used as a switch so he attaches 4 transistors to forward ,backward, left and right on the RC controller. So when he sends signal from iphone to microcontroler its send a signal to one of the four transistors which acts as a switch to control the RC car and moves the car in any direction from program on his iphone

That was very cool! It is a bit Rube Goldberg but obviously it works. I like how you added the PWM to control the speed. Do the motors in the car respond linearly to the PWM or did you use a function somewhere between the interface and the motor to linearize the motor response to the input?
(for the non-technical: I am asking if car responds to your finger position on the iPhone in a way you would find "natural" and "intuitive")
Loved your video! I have been making and experimenting with lots of these kind of controlled cars as well, but not for the Iphone. It never would have come to me to use what you call pulse width modulation, to control the speed of the car, I just been setting them to go slow, because my internet connection is not that grate anyway but I will keep that in mined for the next model. Thanks for the useful info!
@AHTSvideo You are retarded. Get your facts right. You cant screw anything up and you can never void your warranty unless you physically do something to the phone or jailbreak it (which is easy to revert). :/
@Thunderklappa Because that is how things work. Checkout the process that takes place when you click on a web link. It is much more complex than that toy car.
@valteri0007 The original didn't have speed control, the mod does and it is controlled via internet: i.e. you coud log onto his web server from 12,000 miles away and remote control that car with your iPhone. Add a webcam and what do you have?
Nice idea.I will add new in it to control by human voice which is sound energy and it's transformation through into kinetic energy.the voice and frequincy command controller will control the exact motion and activity of the object.moving the object via touch screenn is easy seems but as well on voice commands to saves more time.
neat idea.. but really?? Your using an ipod to tell the computer to tell the nerd kit to tell the controller to go?? REALLY? at that point its better to just pick up the controller.. Its not worth the hassel
PHP put file, python read it and interpret it to send command to the car?? remember a word "DELAY" :). How long the time for the car to receive command?
Hmm... since you're already combining RC and Wifi, why not add a wireless camera that streamed video to your computer and then to a custom program on your iphone. You could then control the car with a series of on-screen touches over the video, or even the built in accelerometers like in many iphone games! It would be neat for driving around your house. If you were going to do all this it would be worth constructing a custom car/chassis, but this could end up being a very cool project!

why would you want to write a program for the iphone to then talk to a computer then to a transmitter to then relay this information to the car?
surely a break through would be to talking directly between iphone and car and cut out the other things?
I liked the cup of tea at the end tho :)
