We have globalisation functioning to an extent but around that we have no half decent currency framework inside which currencies exist. Just like banking cannot be trusted unless it's inside a regulatory framework ("bring back Glass-Steagall"), global trade cannot exist healthily unless inside a system of carbon credits or resource extents.
Yes; but as i see it the current consumption-driven system is finished. Paying carbon taxes will not stop the depletion of resources or the degradation of the biosphere.
Ultimately, value boils down to resources of all kinds - most of them physical / material but some human and some technical. Information is another resource we need to nourish - accurate and appropriate information / feedback - not propaganda, hysteria, tirades or lies ... true and well-founded information.
Good information in a feedback-loop can help us manage scarce resources.

In the bigger picture it is not really about the paper money. It really is just a 'weapon' at a stage of human civilization. People's complaints are not new. For example: 12,000 Years ago, your ancestor hit the ancestor of someone else on the head with a stick, and took his sleeping furs and his dinner. "He got taxed." So - a bully with a weapon is still stealing your sleeping fur and your dinner... call it money if you like. Or banking.

Money is a free market product not a government product. Money existed before governments did.
Just in case your high I.Q brain is not functioning that means any person, company or government can accept anything as money in a true free market.
But the government wants it's script to be used so that it increases in value as the people hold it over other items as money giving them the power to print more for votes.
Silver or gold IS money because it's logically the best item.

I actually agree - however the majority of the people in the world have no idea how money works (some still assume there is a gold standard) and will therefore be 'moulded' to accept whatever our fearless leaders decide to shove at us.
Gold and Silver have always been wealth - but even the romans managed to debase it.
Fiat currencies always fail.

If you want a comedic take on this, watch the Southpark episode "Child Abduction is not funny"
In that episode, all the kids throw the parents in jail and have control of the city for a while.
Eventually, some adults come to town, and it's like World War 3. It's a cartoon, but some of the kids are dead, and they have this ridiculous way of life.
Turns out, the parents were gone 4 days.
Can't help but think of the symbolism there of how Americans react on their own.

Silver will never be worthless because it is used industrially (as well as investment),even used in making the chits on your screen. When it comes to it I would rather have a lump of something that could (though unlikely) become worthless than start with unbacked paper currency that will become worthless. What's your 'safe haven', not wishful thinking I hope.

I think everything is a peace of the plan, even when E U talks about ditchin the dollar and so on..maybe maybe China is protecting their intrests but over here in Europe we play the masters game.

There seems to be a lot of fear around a system like this ... I don't see the basis for except it might be too early to introduce it.
We have globalisation functioning to an extent but around that we have no half decent currency framework inside which currencies exist. Just like banking cannot be trusted unless it's inside a regulatory framework ("bring back Glass-Steagall"), global trade cannot exist healthily unless inside a system of carbon credits or resource extents.

Ultimately, value boils down to resources of all kinds - most of them physical / material but some human and some technical. Information is another resource we need to nourish - accurate and appropriate information / feedback - not propaganda, hysteria, tirades or lies ... true and well-founded information.
Good information in a feedback-loop can help us manage scarce resources.
I well believe there is an abundant supply of energy and other basics on this planet for around 10 billion people

How would you define collapse, like a total collapse hyper-inflation scenario? I agree with the g20 proposal, but can they really decide that quickly or do you think the runors will collapse it alone?

Good grief! The pessimism *shakes head*. Emergency preparations - ESSENTIAL. I had two days without power in three days of freak storms (I've never seen this type before). I wasn't prepared despite the annual storm season warnings. With the freaky weather that's showing up around the globe EVERYONE NEEDS TO PREPARE.

ok nice post, you are right in what you say that the value of any currency is directly related to the policies that the government has to its currency. note that the punishment for coin clipping in the debacle in England in the 1200s was castration.
So the debasement is deliberate which makes sense cos every other currency is protecting itself by debasing its value, quantitative easing, and the dollar needs to compete. Debase...protect ect. crash and burn in a spectacular? Not yet

One more note I must share---Re: "Don't Fear the Reaper", many year's ago a girlfriend in college would sing to Blue Oyster Cult. She had a good voice and was brilliant (degree in Chemical Engineering and got her law degree), but she had no common sense and was no good at listening.
