  • When I was in Kuwait I played this song over and over. Talk about your dusty skies. When we had a dust storm it was a DUST STORM.

  • @cahtube76 Glad you enjoyed the song and thrilled that you're back from Kuwait safely! A friend's nephew served in Iraq during the first Gulf War and I remember him telling me that when the wind kicks up in the desert you literally cannot see two feet in front of you. Yeesh!

  • What an ageless classic. Where would music be today without Asleep At The Wheel? My only (minor) criticism is that the "Sons" singers sound a bit less "masculine" than they should - especially compared to Ray. Otherwise this is a fine version of a great song. :)

  • Ray Benson has the perfect voice for this kind of music, doesn't he? And Asleep at the Wheel's greatest contribution has been keeping alive the music of Bob Wills. For that I will always love them.

Thanks for stopping by to listen and comment. Your time is much appreciated.

  • You're welcome, Bill. My pleasure. And I certainly agree with what you say! :)

  • The Riders do good back-up.

  • I would have to agree with you. This song never sounds old to me. Thanks for stopping by and the comment.

  • This must be the best country song ever written...

    Greetings and thanks from Sweden

  • I adore Bob Wills and Ray and The Wheel (and the Riders here)...and Dusty Skies, written by the great Cindy Walker.

  • Glad you enjoyed it, Cindy! I agree with everything you just said a million per cent! Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Do appreciate it!

    Bill

  • You betcha.

  • Couldn't agree more! Bob Wills is one of those rare musician who deserves to be called a "genius" and Asleep at the Wheel have done their part in keeping Bob's music out there.

Thanks for stopping by! I appreciate your taking some time to listen and comment.

  • speaking as a musician i think they are brilliant, and i thank them for keeping alive the music of the great bob wills, the king of western swing

  • Excellent slide show to accompany a beautiful song.

This song was written by the great Cindy Walker of Mexia, Texas. You can find other examples of her songs here on Youtube and read her bio at the County Music Hall of Fame. She was 12 when she wrote this. She died in 2006 at 87, shortly after Willie Nelson released a CD "You Don't Know Me: The Songs of Cindy Walker".

  • Thank you for the kind words and the information! I always associated the song with Bob Wills and also just assumed he wrote it. Thanks again for the comment and stopping by!

  • such a beautiful song sang wonderfully by you friend please keep them coming i so enjoy listening to you sing these song's all the stars for you fella hugsssssssssssssssss

  • Glad you enjoyed the song, Agnes. The recording is by a fellow named Ray Benson who's the lead singer for a group called Asleep at the Wheel. Their niche is doing what was referred to as Texas Swing popularized 60 years or so ago by Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys.

Anyway, thanks again for listening not to mention the kind words. They are much appreciated!

  • Thanks, Ronnie. Managed to get in a few paintings by Charlie Russell as well. I think I may have been born a hundred years too late in the wrong area of the country.

Be well, Ronnie. Thanks for watching and commenting.
