On January 19, 2010, there was actually a tornado in Huntington Beach. Our local newspaper The Orange County Register has an article about the tornado., we were even under a tornado warning.

I know tornados are very rare in california, but Tuesday we had a tornado in Orange County, california.

And, today on the news i heard that there was a possible tornado in Ventura County also. We have been having very unsual weather in southern califoinria. Including tornados!

Long Beach is in Los Angeles County and Hunington Beach is in Orange County. where the January 2010 tornado hit.

surprisingly this isn't the first time. although incredibly rare, southern California does see tornadoes. they usually come in the form of a water spout off shore but sometimes come to shore like today. and they are usually very small. last time we had 1 in Huntington Beach was about 5 years ago, all it did was knock over some trees.

It was so windy today and the area around me house was flooded!!! And the thunder and lightning was insnane. and they say it's supposed to be like this the next couple of days. It was actually kinda cool but unfortunate for anyone who was injured or in this case had their car flipped.

tornadoes happen almost every year SOMEWHERE in california. last year, there was one in the inland empire that derailed a train car. although they tend not to be as strong as the midwest ones, they do occur with surprising regularity.

Having lived through an F4 tornado on May 31, 1998 I just feel like this is nothing. My next door neighbor had a pickup reapped around a tree like it was a piece of tin foil, and my entire neighborhood was damaged, 10 of the 14 houses were called "total losses", minewas one of the 4.
