Seriously - Julie Christie over Marion Collitard??? Really ??? NO Way - thank goodness people came around to there senses by the time the Oscars came around. Marions performance doesnt even compare to any other performances of that year. SHE was absolutley amazing! even though the film was in french, she somehow manages to feel the character, the life and music of Edith Piaf. Im still in AWE!

@shnooger This particular year I did watch all the ladies performance in their nominated films. Julie christie was good yes. But the film overall was boring. Cate Blancett is Awsome, but she should of won for the original film of Elizabeth and not Gwenth P. 10 years earlier. Ellen P. was ok. Laura Linney was great. But Marion was AMAZING. Had it not been Marion I think Cate should have won for being robbed 10 years earlier. Marion was that good, she won for a French language film. : )

Anyway, Julie won for her peformance, not for the overall film...otherwise it would be a different category. I agree with you that Cate shoulda won a decade before. I'm not so sure - remember Peter Finch.

It is an action film and came out in the summer, both of which will likely hurt his chances, but he was very well-respected by Hollywood and this is their last opportunity to give him an award.

I don't know who else will be nominated, but I think he's got a pretty good chance unless there's someone in a December movie who really blows all of the competition away (it's happened before).

Well, I do give you credit for remembering Peter Finch, but look, Finch has a long long career, plus he blew the movie away, it wasn't just because he died.

And Network, was a drama, and DK is a action movie. So Heath, might be nominated, but defintly won't win.

All that's true - but remember he was also up against De Niro in Taxi Driver.

Ledger, although he hasn't had a long career, has done quite well, and also 'blew away' the Dark Knight. I do think he has a lock on a nomination, but not a win (although a win is possible). Had the movie come out four days ago instead of four months, I think he would be very likely to win. People have won for action roles before.

Anyway, not too much point in arguing about it - we'll find out for sure in a few months.
