  • recieve was even better

  • I'd love to be named "wang" lol

  • Liu guoliang?

  • i thought the hand/arm had to be out of the way before the ball starts it's decent? the way i understood, there must be a clear path between the ball and the net before it starts it's decent from the service toss.. still, heck of a serve!

  • @aslansalive

    um, no

A lot of players serve from under their other arm

  • @sersarsor stfu.

  • @sersarsor This was how it USED to be. They recently changed the rules where that kind of serve is illegal because it obstructs the view of the ball.

  • the way wang hao retouches that ball short is amazing!!!

  • It's so not new...

  • No matter this serve is like liu gualiang,it's really great.

  • service de liu gholiang

  • Clearly illegal and he's copying Liu Guoliang's serve

  • fuck video

  • well the dudes an idiot for challenging someone who is so good. Serves him right.

  • @oVNiiTeMaReVo serves

  • i dont want be person who receive this amazing service...

  • at 0:10 there is a cut. Nobody can move so fast.

  • thats right... you can see it better in the Lee Jung Woo's body...

  • they can dude....they train at least 8 hours a day man....y cant they???plus this serve is totally liu guo liang's serve..

  • @PingMast wtf they don't train 8 hours a day that's fucking crazy when they were young they did but now it's like 2/4 only for big tournaments they train a lot

  • @alex366s1 of course they do....i think you didn't watch their interview...do you??

  • look like Lui gualiang seve . .

  • @pluckoa34 that's because Liu teaches Wang that serve

  • Ma Lin at 0:13..

  • I'm astounded by how stupid StijnSpitaels is

  • Amazing player along with Ma Lin

  • this serve reminds me of liu guo liang's serve 10 years ago

  • liu gouliang taught him that serve

  • ye something is weird:P wang goes from 9-11 to 13-11 in just two serves? must be two settings^^

  • the ref cant call if you can see it. hiding int partially doesnt count

  • this serve is effective only when it's hidden. that's why he doesn't use it that much anymore.

  • you do realize this match took place like 8 years after that rule came into practice.

  • i know that. i'm just saying

  • I dislike, I prefer his serve when he serves since backhand

  • this is liu guoliangs serve

wang hao practice this serve not as often as his other serves

  • Looks like the vid is sped up, or misses a fraction of a second when Hao hits the ball which makes it look a lot more impressive.

Just look at his opponent... I see a small flick there...

  • ncht schlecht ich kan diese angabe auch spiele auch penholder

  • illigaal

  • Il a du en Baver Pour faire Ces Service

Moi J'dis Au Ping Il y a peut etre du Talents Mais Derriere Sa Beaucoup de Travail de Reflechis

Sa C Du Ping Et C hyper Physique

  • why does he have to learn guoliang's serve? the pose is really not that pretty.

  • looks like he's hiding his shot. Isn't that illegal?

  • Comment removed

  • @OhMymy this was edited somehow...

  • @OhMymy oh my

  • poor!

  • looks like liu guo liang's serve

  • is that serve even legal anymore? i thought you had to toss it up straight

  • Pretty much all his serves are like that, I don't think it's straight up, just clearly with no spin and not hidden. He must throw it up, stick the arm out and then draw it back just before it passes behind it, whicked...

  • you do, but pros often curve it and the refs won't call it

  • check how he is standing..

it is very hard to do that serve

  • i do it all the time

  • i wish they showed this in slo mo so i could see his arm

    tht was pretty ridiculous

  • he used backspin in his service..

look at how the other player pushes the ball back.

the other player just scrapped very soft the ball. and the ball came very close to the net..

    so i believe its backspin

  • I think it's backspin with a litte bit sidespin ..

  • this just looks loike poor editing...its not possible that his hand coul move so fast that the eye or camera wouldnt follow..didnt ne1 see the little flick when he serves..

  • holy fuck... that is crazy shit

  • For the 2nd service i think wang hao put a reverse effect ....

  • i believe is a top spin service

  • lol so liu guo liang stylish =P

also, liu is coaching him so..definitely taught by liu guo liang

  • yeh, hes obviously been inspired by how liu used to serve

  • nice serve^^

  • What is the merit to having this serve? Is there more spin and variations or something? I cannot tell yet what the serve is because he only uses it a few times in other games, and the camera angle is not good. I am also a reverse backhand player, and I don't know why Wang Hao is switching to this serve.

  • Liu's serve

  • This is NOT illegal. He moves his arm out of the way when the serve was made. Go watch Liu Guo Liang's videos, when he does his serve, his arm is always blocking the view, Wang Hao clearly moved his arm out of the way. Therefore, this is not an illegal serve.

  • Actually, the rule is that the ball path cannot be hidden at ANY point of the serve, by the body or the arm. Wang Hao uses his torso to hide the ball until the moment of contact, which is illegal.

  • that rule was very recent, now they can't do that anymore but before the 2008 olympics, they could... i think... please correct me if im wrong.

  • lol you can hide it just not put your arms right infront of it. i am pretty sure people in the top 10 dont make low lvl mistakes like that.

  • is it a gd serve?

  • You're correct.

  • its not illegal.. he moves his arm out of the way. and liu taught him the serve lol...

  • You have no idea of the rules.

  • That's nothing. I predicted this would happen 3 years ago. So.

  • Not only is that illegal, but its clearly liu guoliang's serve

  • @KongLinghui95 It's not illegal. As he throws the ball not high enough to be hidden behind his arm, it can be seen at all time.

  • i don't blame him for doing an illegal serve because everybody didn't notice or ignored it completley (for example the china team).

i would blame the opponent too, because he s too dumb to let the illegal go without saying anything

  • his opponents not dumb. would he be a dick and say its an illegal serve and win the point. its not sportsman like. the chinese have been known for this

  • I am not sure. But i will guess Victor Barna and Waldner.

  • Waldner was the first one, Liu GuoLiang was the second, and Kong LingHui was the last

  • yeah i'm glad other people saw that this was illegal as well. when Liu did it it wasn't but with the rule changes in 2003 the ball can't go behind your arm like that.

  • Me and myself.

  • For those of you guys saying that the ball only has to be visible at contact, you are WRONG. The rule clearly states that the ball must be visible FROM THE START OF SERVICE UNTIL IT IS STRUCK (read below). Also, you cannot tell me that Wang is removing his free arm as soon as the ball has been projected.

Again, I'm not blaming Wang for doing this serve. MANY pros have an illegal serve, and they do it because they know they can get away with it. At that level, you need every advantage.

  • see? you admit its really illegal. wang knows the umpire is so lenient so he kept doing illegal serves which is unfair for his opponent. taking advantage is good in the sense that you do not violate the rules.

  • No, it states;and it shall not be hidden

from the receiver by any part of the body or clothing of the server or his

doubles partner;<------ not the semi colon. AND ad soon as the ball has been projected, the servers free arm shall be removed.

You're right in that he doesn't remove the free arm. But it only has to be visible at contact.

  • Here is the rule according to ITTF:

"2.6.4 From the start of service until it is struck, the ball shall be above the level of

the playing surface and behind the server's end line, and it shall not be hidden

from the receiver by any part of the body or clothing of the server or his

doubles partner; as soon as the ball has been projected, the server's free arm

shall be removed from the space between the server's body and the net."

It's definitely an illegal serve. Pros still do it anyway, thoug

  • cover the ball for almost the whole time and just bring the arm out at the last second....not only Hao but also Liqin, Ma Lin, ....do the same. I think it's not illegal

  • sickest service ever, there bringing old school back

  • Liu Guoliang serve is back!!

  • that's ma lin serve. liu guoliang cuts into it from a low crouch, not wide swing

  • no the movement is from the legendary Liu Guoliang serve. The classic Ma Lin serve is usually not with a kind of side-spin. Ma Lin serve backspin or no spin the most time......

  • Who is Liu Guoliang?

  • one of only 3 Players in history who won all big tournements.....

  • Yeah, it's obviously a Liu Guoliang serve. But I don't understand the referees: that service is sooooo illegal! They shouldn't allow it!

  • can you tell me what is illegal on his serv?

  • he covers the ball while serving. the ball must be seen by at least one referee and the opponnent player while it gets in contact with the rubber.

  • umm....he only cover in the beggining. when he is about to rub the ball, he released his arm thats no illegal. its illegal if he covered the whole time.

  • I guess it's rather on the edge, but I still think it's a bit illegal..

  • common be fair, its illegal. not a bit illegal but truly illegal. it should not be allowed.

  • it isn´t illegal.

  • i think at the point of contact the serve is visible, it just uses the same mechanics and gets the same amount of spin, just with less deception

  • hey back when liu quoliang was a famous palyer, they didn't care if the player covered the servive with their arm, but now, ittf stated that you are not allowe4d to cover your service, so liu guoliang taught wanghao his service but without covering it. lol if liu guoliang's serve wasn't illegal right now, he woulda been world champ even now

  • what is the stance needed for?

i thought this was just to cover the ball, when it was allowed.

  • It's a Liu Guoliang serve, except Wang Hao uses the front side rubber to serve the ball, whereas Liu is able to use either front or back side to serve. It is the back side serve that set the record for the spinniest backspin serve that even the great Waldner had problems returning it.

  • yes I have a video where Liu shows Wang this service xD

  • then post the link for that video, or either upload it. anyway the movement of the serve is crazy

  • Hahaha, it's Liu Guoliang's serve, come back! SWEET!
