  • Amazing, just amazing.

  • It is odd that he is still searching for the 'yound soul rebels' while wearing a beanie hat and sporting a pencil moustache!! I would run off too.....well suspect! Great song though.

  • Classic Dexy's

  • Perfect perfect perfect !!!

  • Comeback Kevin and kick ass.

  • This was the true legacy of punk not all that Oi nonsense and that American hardcore bollocks but those individualists like Kevin Rowland and others in the early eighties who after seeing Johnny Rotten subvert the idea of what a frontman should be had the confidence to do their thing. The late seventies and early eighties had a brilliant do-it-yourself creativity that was eventually subdued by the corporate machine and it's determination to make docile morons of us and sell us their crap.

  • That was obviously live, right? Superb!

  • Every time I hear this I have vivid flashbacks of being young, carefree, music mad and loving life.... I am still the same, just older, carefree and loving life and music still.........

  • love it. a band giving their all.

  • dexys midnight runners son lo mejor en soul : )

  • love the 10 hole DM,s and the tash.

  • Flippin' phenomenally fantastic . Rare live vid of the first edition of Dexy's line up .... Wud luv some colour from the night pls bodaciousbabe? ..like were they starched?

  • I was there! I ironed those trousers!

  • This is from a swedish music program, does anyone have more videos from the program?

Har någon fler videos från Bälinge Byfest?

  • Dexy's at their finest...

  • Mick Talbot playing keyboards..ex style council paul weller crew

  • Another of Birmingham's Finest, the list goes on and on and on.....

  • Their most under-rated track, a classic.

As for Cowell and his modern-day contrived shite, fuck it !

  • Cheers mate

  • p

Pardon my ignorance. Who is Robin?

  • Dexy's were one of many fantastic west midlands bans at the time (although they had a very different sound to the others). This is by far their best song its wonderful and stand the test of time.

  • Dexy's were one of many bands from the west midlands who were fantastic at the time and a breath of fresh air but this is their best song by a mile.

  • Yes it is Merton Mick on keyboards

  • @ianppppp65 Wasn't he simultaneously in Dexy's and The Style Council around this time ?

  • What soul and energy this is.

  • quick question..... is that Mick Talbot on the keyboarrds

  • @Pacquaio looks like him ,,,

  • Legend!

  • wish i d seen them at this period live , fuckin brilliiant bbbbbbrrrrrrr

  • turn it up feel the joy quality quality quality. Fuck me this is the best of our collective small islands. Its a thin line between bellend and genius ( borrowed roughly from chrissie hinds)!

  • great footage..what a fuckin band

  • rowland was a right bellend, but he did do some fucking great tunes.

  • Holy shite someone just punch me in balls!

  • i love the drummer popping about! :)

  • love it..but its a bitch to sing along too!

  • This is one of my all time favorite songs. It is classic, fabulous, and I have loved it for over 30 years.

  • Fuckin brilliant. In the early years I seemed to be in a minority of people who preferred this to Geno, as much as I loved that. Only Plan B comes close for me.

  • What I love is he sings some of the greatest songs that no one knows the freakin words to!!! great music, great voice....WHAT THE HELL IS ON ABOUT THOUGH???? lol

  • @James13838 - I still have this on 7" vinyl and luckily the lyrics are on the back of the sleeve!

  • oh...happy days....one of best albums I ever bought! :-)

  • Unbelievably GOOD! I was rised with all that, but not listened to it for way too long. What an amazing sound! Rock on!

  • @freqeist I am American and I ain't thick. These Soul Rebels are the real deal. RIGHT ON! Never had no trouble understanding Dexy's and their sound. I LOVE NORTHERN SOUL!

  • Rowland may be a bit nuts.....but the results speaks for themselves.....Dexy's rule!!

  • dexys rule

  • Simply fucking brilliant

  • holy shit, kev may have been/is totally nuts, but thats one helluva band playing an awesome song full tilt

    soul rebels indeed...

  • i wanna be dressed like them, hung out like them, have a good pure 80s fun, drink like a horse, dance, fall in love and dance to this tune. Top blue eyed soul!

  • @hypnorich its because you are an American and by virtue, thick.

  • Magic stuff, intense, tuneful and soulful. What the fuck happened to music?

  • he's a world leader ... he's a maniac ... he's a genius ... in another universe he could have been responsible for atrocities ... I love him

  • Notice how this kicks the ever-loving dogshit out of nearly everything available today. Woefully under-appreciated band (at least here in the States; not sure about the rest of the world).

  • merton mick on keyboards.

  • @67roko I never noticed that before, thanks. Seb Shelton of Secret Affair drummed in their later years too.

  • One of my favourite Dexy's and still (surprisingly) in my vinyl collection.

  • BANGING TUNE

  • Good to see, that they had more good songs. I never liked "Come on Eileen" very much. But this seems to be a good song at it´s time.

  • @Henson222

was suppressed by thatch's record companies based in that London...

    say no more.

  • I wonder if Kevin Rowland realises now just how great that first incarnation of Dexys really were?

  • Simon Cowell that's the fuckin X factor right there you cunt!!!!!!!

  • @snowlion23 Yes, that's Mick Talbot.

  • Kevin Rowland's voice is so unique. It come from and goes directly to the heart.

  • Brilliant by any aspect

  • rrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaa

  • ace tune and version

  • Atlantic/stax revival? ,,,,,,,,just might have made it but for Mr Rowlands ego

  • Kevin Rowland should have an Ivor Novello for this. Look up the lyrics and you will not believe what he turned into a Top Ten soul hit. The man is lyrical genius

  • @TheSuedeEd

    yes.. mick Talbot on keyboard..

  • He sings like Vic Reeves on shooting stars! Great band and sound though.

  • top work shamboy

  • that is micky talbot on keys innit

  • Public apology....To correct a previous post the drummer on this track is a Mr Andy Growcott and NOT Bobby 'Jnr' Ward. Sorry.

  • @69shamboy Andrew James Growcott Yep That's Me... Look Me Up On Facebook

  • I often annoy my better half by playing this far too often (as far as they're concerned). Fantastic. Pretty much without peer.

  • @Stoker1959 Please advise me as to where I can hear a sample of your world class drumming; so I can decide for myself whether or not I know what I am talking about.

  • Comment removed

  • @Stoker1959 So why didn't you just say 'It was me playing drums on that song; and not Bobby Ward!' In stead of getting all bolshy about it? I apologise if I offended you jeez u artistic types are touchy! Happy now?

  • @69shamboy I Thought That You Thought That Bobby Was The Man Not Knowing That You Really Thought That I Was The Man, In Doing That I Now Think I Was Mistaken What Do You Think?? I Am Precious About The Fabulous Dixons (That's What We Called Ourselves) I Can't Help Myself, Sorry About That......

  • He's still a dick..!!

  • @erikcartman204 to his credit Kevin Rowland did admit years later that he had been a total dick in those years. He said he looked back and realised he had wasted what should have been great times by being too far up his own arse.

  • Comment removed

  • It was good while it lasted. After that he started wearing dresses ffs..!! Fuckin weirdo..!!

  • Very very BEST version of that song... ♥ ♥ ♥

  • Without doubt their best image. Loved the Mean Streets look. Much better than the gypsy look imo.

In my opinion the best Dexys line up and image.Pure passion and intensity, something totally missing from the current music scene

  • You got that man, this is a song that demands to be turned up all the way

  • @drumgold23 "The only way to change things is to shoot men who arrange things" dedicated to my ex-employer ;-)

  • Kevin is always so intense. Brilliant song and for anyone who can't make out the words look 'em up. There worth it.

" Keep quoting Cabaret, Berlin, Burroughs, J.G. Ballard, Duchamp, Beauvoir, Kerouac,

Kierkegaard, Michael Rennie. I dont believe you really like Frank Sinatra."

Dedicated to my ex wife. he he

  • i can never understand what hes saying

  • theres no way this footage is from 1980! Just look at rowland!

  • it is indeed 1980. Mick Talbot on keyboards after leaving Merton Parkas.

  • Well, youve made

your rules, but we dont know that game, perhaps Id listen to your records

but your logics far too lame and Id only waste three valuable minutes of

    my life with your insincerity.

Some of it changes for live performances as you can hear.

  • Dear Robin

Youre always so happy, how the hell do you get your inspiration? Youre

like a dumb patriot. If youre supposed to be so angry, why dont you fight

and let me benefit from your right? Dont you know the only way to change

things is to shoot men who arrange things, Dear Robin

I would explain but youd never see in a million years.

  • Dear Robin

Hope you dont mind me writing, its just that theres more than one thing I

need to ask you. If youre so anti-fashion, why not wear flares, instead of

dressing down all the same. Its just that looking like that I can express

    my dissatisfaction.

    Dear Robin

Let me explain, though youd never see in a million years. Keep quoting

Cabaret, Berlin, Burroughs, J.G. Ballard, Duchamp, Beauvoir, Kerouac,

Kierkegaard, Michael Rennie. I dont believe you really like Frank Sinatra.

  • my fave of dexys. thanx 4 postin.
