I hunt in Central Florida and what you say is true. I found a place that's easy to cross a creek and decided to try my luck at fishing after a few moments two Doe stopped for a sec then ran and right behind them right were they stopped a Coyote stopped and received some 2lbe buck shot. Texas looks like Fl in some places.

i know what you mean i was walking on my creek bed and a water mocasin that was there it was at least three and a half feet long and i couldnt see it until i was well into its striking range before it finally moved so they can be afraid but they will strike you

zlzgrom86- I dont think that will be a problem tho, it would be better to keep a certain population at a medium to high level that have to go from very low to very high then have those anmials die of starvation and deaise and have to repeat the process all over again. And those anmials that didnt die from the hunt have 10 months to recover there population you olnt get to shoot 1 or 2 deer a year.

how can you tell if a deer rub is fresh of not?

The way I usually can tell if a rub is fresh, is by looking at the color and texture of the wood. In manitoba (where I'm from) the wood on a fresh rub will be light brown or green, and the texture of the wood will be slightly moist and spongy. The edges of where the bark is torn will look "fresh" and not worn. An old scrape will have greyish wood, and the edges of the bark will have started re growing on the tree injury, or will look more "blended".

Also, look around the tree for shreds and shavings. If there are no shavings, or they are old, grey and brittle, the rub is old. New rubs will have fresh light brown or green shavings that lie on top of the grass or brush around it. sometimes you have to look very closely, as some types of ground cover will hide tracks, so you have to find other ways to locate deer.

look also for the antler velvet, new shredded velvet will be pliable, and can even be bloody sometimes. old velvet will be crunchy, and the dried blood would be black.

I just think its hilarious that some hunters like to mount the head of a deer on a wall, like shooting a deer with a powerful rifle from 80 meters is some great accomplishment.

It would only be an accomplishment if the deer could shoot lasers out of its eyes or if you had to take it down with a knife.

it's not that easy. unless you killed it over corn or under a light, it is an accomplishment. Staying out week after week in the cold watching and waiting for that one deer. You don't know what it's like until you have to wait weeks, sometimes even seasons for a wall hanger.

waiting does not count as an accomplishment. A mentally challenged child can accomplish the 'great feat' of waiting. a mentally challenged 5 year old could shoot a deer if they wanted.

winning a technology vs no-technology fight where the other side doesnt even expect you is not an accomplishment. kill it with a sharpened wooden stick from close range and then you can call yourself accomplished.

hunting is a challenge(especially with whitetails) whether u use a bow or a gun...i use a 44 mag,357 mag. and compound bow and im 13 so dont think i dont have to get close...u could take a deer from 100 yards with a 357 mag..but i usually get within at least 50 yards...i have gotten within 10 yards of deer..it wasnt easy..u gott to pay attention to the wind,plan ur route through the woods,etc. and when u finnaly get close enough u have to control ur breathing while ur heart pumps 2x faster!

yeah man,killed my first deer 3 days ago(first year bowhuntin,have been huntin 4 them with guns for 7 years) young seven point,110lbs field dressed,called it i with a bleat call,walked straight at me and got within 10 yards...shot and hit him in the jugular and spine..dropped him on the spot...i made a pretty good shot but went ahead and finished him off with one to the heart,died within 10 sec. aftr that..now i got back straps,jerky,steak,and hamburger!goin 4 does now!gonna donate the meat

I watched a hunting video that said for you to get a map of your hunting grounds try to have some boat acess set your tree stands now with wind direction in mind. Go establish your locations with predrilled stands all you have to do is check the weather and go to your NNW wind stand if that is the weather. All the other things you might do like salt corn whatever is legal do it to get them where you want so you can get a deer a day. Happy hunting love your area it is very nice all we have is mud

The Human population has grown and taken over the natural habitat to the point that the land can not support growing Deer populations. If hunters do not keep there numbers under control they will eventually run out of food and many more deer will starve to death each year than hunters kill.

Not to mention the destruction to farm land and car accidents involving deer as their population grows.

I have no problem with hunting, its how homo sapiens got large protein intakes to get larger brains, what I have a problem with is our exponential growth into their habitat. The world population was less than 1 billion in 1800, you could easily hunt all day and everything would be fine. Today the population is 6.7 billion and rising. That is more than a 5.7 billion jump in only about 200 years. That means the number of hunters has also exponentially increased. Even with federal control...

Hunt bears or wolves instead for two reasons; 1, if a survivalist situation does come about I'd rather there be more deer than bears and wolves... 2, how manly is it to go after bambi?
