The way pit bulls have been villianized in the media is a real tragedy and a lot of trained fighting dogs have gone from fighting for their lives to being cherished members of a family. It's not in a dog's nature to hold a grudge no matter what the human they think of as master (though there are quite a few that can't be counted as human) has done. They do what they do for the love of their humans. People just need to understand this instead of what they "know" from other sources.
Pits are just like every other dog. I keep my 4 month old away from small dogs because they come with "small dog complex." My 2 year old pit bull, Roxy, is a loving and friendly dog. She watches my daughter & licks her when she cries. She lays down with her and tells us when she's fussing. She's a big baby! My neighbors poodle is scary. As someone once said... JUDGE THE DEED, NOT THE BREED.
Being a shelter volunteer I love watching pits with kids. I exercise and socialize pits every time Im there. I have never had a problem with any of them. I give them love and I get it back, funny to watch the child attack the dog! lol
@wistoncap It's an American Bully, can be categorized as a Pit. They are like stocky mini pits, pretty much. They are really thick (and personally I hate seeing people breed them because they look like a staff on steroids).

@RoscoTheRat OK first of all...I severly doubt that Vicks dogs were not put down because almost every dog with fighting history is put down regardless if they can be rehabilitated or not. People do not trust pit bulls even when they have never fought. You better double check that. Second...I never said that a fighting dog is permanently damaged. But you must be more careful with them and they require more experienced owners usually.

Look up Hector the pitbull on facebook, he's one of them. And he now plays with some of the others that were rescued from Vick.
My Aunt bought a purebred pit bull called DJ and within having it 3 years it bit my older cuz twice and tried to kill my lil cuz so they had to have him put down then she got a Pit/Rottweiler mix called Brandy from a shelter in Hamilton (i live in Scotland) and the dog is really playful and loves giving my new baby cuz - who's 5 months old- kisses and would never hurt her, sometimes purebred dogs can be even more dangerous than adopted dogs

This is not a pit bull... Beautiful dog, amazing disposition, clearly. Obviously an amazing creature. But not an American Pit Bull Terrier. APBTs are actually VERY skinny. Most should actually weigh less than fifty pounds. They are lean dogs. And their ribs are actually SUPPOSED to show. Since they were bred for fighting, they had to be slender, quick, agile, but have well-muscled necks and jaws without looking off-balance.

I don't know about studies or whatnot, but I have had dogs all my life 2-5 of nearly 20 different breeds, and pits are by far the best dogs overall. Perhaps it's that trait of theirs where you have the mix of savage power, and gentle, goofy, fun loving nature when raised right is unmatched by any other dog. You know why they are so nice to people on average? While they were bred to fight, they were also bred to NOT attack two legged creatures aka people, as to not bite their handlers.

There was an article a long time ago (wish I still had it or could find it) of a pitbull attack at a dog show, it ended up being a Dalmatian.
Pitbulls don't 'crack', that is what you are smoking. Any dog that 'cracks' or 'snaps' (as the uninformed like to say) are, or have been, abused for long periods of time.
I had a dog like this one. I used to pull him over and over but he never attacked. My parents told me that when I was sleeping, he would come few times to see if I am OK.
It's supposed to be ironic. You usually only see pit bulls on the news with "Pit bull attacks baby," or Pit bull kills child." This video title gets people to click it.
I grew up with Pit Bulls, and my family and I TOTALLY ADORED them. We had up to 3 at a time. They were sweet, loyal and so docile. I don't even think they were bred that well, as they were all rescues. However, they NEVER showed ANY signs of aggression EVER. My house was always FULL of children--from infants to teenagers. Even when strangers showed up at the door--totally friendly sweet dogs.

little pocket book dogs bite all the time. just because their not big and their bite doesnt hurt doesnt mean there not aggresive. I had a little dog at a customers house bite my leg 4 times! Ive been around pitbulls my whole life and have never been bit or growled at. So why do dogs that bite and growl get away with it because their not pitbulls? its ridiculous!

Any dog can turn on anyone, saying pit bulls are vicious is ignorant & is just like being racist, but against a breed. Any pit bull owner KNOWS that Pit bulls are so sweet & only want to cuddle. It is the OWNERS NOT the dog & it can be ANY dog!!!!! I could go on & on bout this, it pisses me off so bad! The people who speak only what they hear, need to DO their RESEARCH!! UGH!!! Smh. @metalsloug its perfectly fine to let a dog near your child, just with supervision always. kids under the age of 12 should never EVER be alone with a dog no matter what breed.

@metalsloug glad we agree ;-) my sister is expecting a baby she's now 6 months pregnant and she owns a american bulldog with another fighting breed in it. And she's also beginning to crate train the dog and its not allowed in the babyroom etc.

This is not a pit bull... Beautiful dog, amazing disposition, clearly. Obviously an amazing creature. But not an American Pit Bull Terrier. APBTs are actually VERY skinny. Most should actually weigh less than fifty pounds. They are lean dogs. And their ribs are actually SUPPOSED to show. Since they were bred for fighting, they had to be slender, quick, agile, but have well-muscled necks and jaws without looking off-balance.

I don't know about studies or whatnot, but I have had dogs all my life 2-5 of nearly 20 different breeds, and pits are by far the best dogs overall. Perhaps it's that trait of theirs where you have the mix of savage power, and gentle, goofy, fun loving nature when raised right is unmatched by any other dog. You know why they are so nice to people on average? While they were bred to fight, they were also bred to NOT attack two legged creatures aka people, as to not bite their handlers.

I have raised my two adult children with pibbles.... my youngest son even learned how to walk with the aid of his 103 pound girl AJ ..... I am so glad my kids got to experience the love, loyalty and ferocious love of that breed their entire lives!!!! Cute video!!!!

PITBULL LOVERS: stop sentimentalizing this subject. the problem isnt' that most pitbulls will attacks, it's that when they do... they won't let go. Pitbulls only account for 6% of dogs in the U.S. but account for 59% of all fatal attacks. almost half of which are on members of their own family (owner, spouse or children of owner). GET IT?!?!?
it's not worth it to me. all dogs can be loving but pitbulls are known to 'crack' and when they do pitbull lovers change their minds. NOT WORTH IT.

@Liteboyiam Thanks for subscribing to the media message. It is amazing how many 'pitbull' attacks are not actually pitbulls, that just happens to be the dog of choice right now. There was an article a long time ago (wish I still had it or could find it) of a pitbull attack at a dog show, it ended up being a Dalmatian.
Pitbulls don't 'crack', that is what you are smoking. Any dog that 'cracks' or 'snaps' (as the uninformed like to say) are, or have been, abused for long periods of time.

I grew up with Pit Bulls, and my family and I TOTALLY ADORED them. We had up to 3 at a time. They were sweet, loyal and so docile. I don't even think they were bred that well, as they were all rescues. However, they NEVER showed ANY signs of aggression EVER. My house was always FULL of children--from infants to teenagers. Even when strangers showed up at the door--totally friendly sweet dogs.

my son loves cats and they are so good to him, even tho he grabs their fur. I have a feeling if I tried grabbing their fur, I'd get my face clawed to pieces LOL! Animals always know. They have that amazing 6th sense for kids. <3
