  • Great playing, great tone, nice job!

  • Great playing, great tone, nice job!

  • Great playing, great tone, nice job!

  • old sr500 ftw

  • It's not flowing... Needs more cowbell!

  • Not too shabby...

  • Bass? i need to see this!!

  • Very good

  • That attempt is so full of win, c'mon, I think you did a frigging good job, I think Les would be proud :D

And just purely for my ego... :P. how long have you've been doing the bass now?

And did you learn it from tabs or by ear?

Keep it going dude :o, as I was writing this comment you were doing the bass solo - you FUCKER, that AWESOMELY well done :D

All glory to Les Cla- Hypnotoaad....

  • @TSTFlameRetardant Thanks!

I've played bass for about 9 years or so, with 6 years of guitar before that.

I learned this song by watching a tutorial in YouTube, after not being able to figure it out by ear!

  • @PookLowEnd Mind me asking what tutorial you used to learn this? I can't figure it out by ear either.

  • @EurynomusBH No sir, I do not mind you asking. I learned it by watching JCThumbs' tutorial. I found it very useful :)

  • what does "LRRG" mean

  • @CKBclan Living Room Rock God.

    Is LRRG an official thing?

  • @ThePsychoMike What do you mean by "official"?

  • @PookLowEnd Do I have to join anywhere or something like that?

  • Go go SDGR, I own one myself. I have a black finish on it but I'm liking your wood finish.

  • Awesome cover. Is that AnnaMolly By Incubus in the Intro?

  • @enterthetoucan Yes it is, sir. Thank you very much :)

  • kk ive seen enough, im subscribing xD... 1 more thing :) what is lrrg ( i know it stands for living room rock gods) and what anout tribute is not theft? ^^ slate me if you must, i dotn really care but would really liek to know :)

  • @richie1303 Thanks man! Very kind of you! - LRRG is a community of YouTube musicians who like to have fun playing and who are against the abuse of big record labels who want to prevent us from doing so :)

  • the air was thick with cat calls no pun intended, nice cover

  • dude insane

  • Very nice! what kind of bass it that?

  • This is a now-retired Ibanez Soundgear (I cant remember the model) :)

  • you did pretty well dude

  • The only thing that wasn't right is that your bass isn't a six string fretless Carl Thompson... other than that, that was pretty awesome!

  • You think you and ZIF could get together? I would be awesome.

  • That's a good idea. I don't know about him, but I'd love that :) Thanks man!

  • Yes, best Tommy the Cat bass cover on the net... well done dude, you kick ass!

  • Might give this one a go on my fretless 6 string. That's a really nice sound you've got going on there.

  • you guys off LRRG are the best ever

  • Thanks, man :)

  • Best tommy the cat cover on the net ;) sounds clean and goes with the tune nicely , great job m8

  • that was the best Tommy the Cat LLRG ive seen ever!!! even Better than ZodiacIronFist's video for it. no offence ZIF.

  • waiting for the bass solo to come in, .nice! your worthy, i subscribed.

  • friggin' awesome

  • i wish i have more hands... so i can give this video FOUR THUMBS UP!

  • especially that solo and alternate riff near the end. SAY BABEHHHHH!!!!!!!

  • Don't worry about any mistakes you made. I didn't notice any but one about 1/3 of the way through. Such a great job, such talent and expertise.

  • 3:39 haha that kinda reminded me of a groundhog

    awesome cover 5/5

  • WOW! thats cool, whats the tuning like on it? im wanting to play primus so bad but i jus cnt keep up.

  • I didnt use a tab; I used an instructional video by JCThumbs; I suggest you use that, it helped me out A LOT!

  • Wow, thanks Florian! Sweet bass you've got, man.

  • wicked cover !!

  • AWESOME DUDE...VERY NICELY DONE.And great tone and sound.PEACE

  • SHE WAS LOOKIN FOR THAT HE CAT

  • That's what I meant. Read my comment again maybe? I never compare "To Defy.." to "Tommy the Cat", I merely compare those two songs to John the Fisherman, which is BY FAR the easiest Primus song (on bass).

  • Great video. My problem is that bass solo bit. I've just no idea where to begin to even attempt that.

  • As you can see from this video, neither do I :)

  • Aw man don't say that. It sounded great. Seriously, I don't even know what you're doing there, so I wouldn't know how to play it.

  • very very very good!

  • Thanks!

  • you even bounce up and down like Les! great cover man

  • I usually just hook a guitar distortion pedal in, and it usually sounds so bad that it just..works, then I turn it off when the song starts, haha.

  • Are you serious? John the Fisherman was one of the first songs I learned when I played bass. JtF cannot compare to Tommy the Cat. A HARD Primus song is 'To Defy the Laws of Tradition'.

  • I started learning this, but I realised I sucked quite considerably. You nailed this, kudos!

  • Thank you very much!

  • Already done it. Twice :)

  • ... that's what she said XD

I'm sorry, had to do it

    Awesome vids man!!

My favorite is the bouncy "sacred cow"

  • Thank you :)

  • Muchas gracias :)

  • Sick! Awesome! :D

  • hey man u think u could hooks mewith these tabs

  • what is this bass ?

  • Thanks!

  • that song in your intros is anna molly right?

  • Yup. Good ear :)

  • i bounce up and down too when i play primus :D

  • Dude your a god!!!!!!

The way u did the solo at 3:14 was amazing!

    U use tabs?

  • Thanks a lot man!

No, I dont. I usually learn songs by ear. This one, however, I learned from a tutorial right here in YouTube.

  • man thats is cool ive tried but there is no way lol great job dude

  • Just practice, sir! I used to think the same and now I can semi-play it! XD

    Glad you like!

  • great job, is this standard tuning?

  • Thanks! And yeah: EADG tuning.

  • dude this song is really hard and you did a great job on it infact i think if you had a band you would be a great bass player for them

  • Thank you! :)

  • well played

  • Thanks :)

  • Again,

    nice cover dude! :]

  • Thank you! :]

  • awesome dude

  • Thank you very much :)

  • Hey, seriously, how long have you been playing?

  • Como 8 años ya...

  • For some reason I thought your Ibanez Was black?!?! TOMMY THE FRIGGIN' CAT!

  • It is. That's my former Ibanez XD

  • What happened to it?

  • It's currently in retirement.

  • Haha really?

  • Yes :)

  • How old is he/she?

  • She. Amanda :). Wow, she's about to be 10, Im guessing. She was the first bass I ever bought... well no, not really. Really the second, but the first I don't count.

  • One of the weirdest songs I have ever heard. Haha The bass riff was great though! Les would be proud.

  • Thank you!

  • You Are Awesome! maxvote

  • Grazie mile, Mr. AHHH! XD

  • Iight, thanks. It sounded cool so I was just wondering.

  • Nice cover man. What do you do for the solo part? That always messes me up.

  • Thanks man. I don't know what the hell Im doing during that part, to tell you the truth. I was so excited that I was finally able to play that song that completly forgot about the solo and just though "oooh craaaaaapp" when I got to it and improvised (and sucked) all of it.

However, I suspect the muted part of the solo is exactly like the muted solo in "Lacquer Head", but Im only guessing here.

  • i can nearly play this and i know you wont need hints and tips but play the slide on a 5 string B i found i can sound much more like the song just try ;D

  • I can play it on a 4 string just fine by now, but thanks for the tip :)

  • Damn your pretty good. This song is impossible for me at the moment but I'll get it eventually. I still want to see someone cover Is it Luck? by primus and I think the only man that can do it is you.

  • Thanks, Jake. Much appreciate it, buddy. I haven't even dared to try "Is it Luck?"... it's just too fast to figure out what the hell he's doing!

  • Both you and zodiakironfist did an awesome job at this. It's a great song, and (this goes for a lot of Primus songs) it's mostly more fun on the bass; you get to play this awesome riff and beat it, it's great. Even as a guitar player I love to play this song. Well done, man. 5 Stars!!!!! >X)

  • Thanks, man!!

  • whats that thing you do when u wave your hand over it

  • Over what?

  • your pickups. you do it at 3:47-3:50

  • Oh, I gently hit them (making sure I dont do that hard enough so it will hit the pickup) and build up the strength to give the resulting sound. It's actually a very simple move, but the 10 frames per second recording makes it look weird.

  • wow dude you play this perfectly...no LRRG's give themselves any credit at all lol

  • Thanks a lot, dude :)

  • Perfect, can u send me the tabs that would be nice :). thx.

  • Thank you :). Unfortunately I don't use tabs. Sorry :(

  • Oh okey :P.

  • How do you get the title of LLRG? btw, you rock man! Keep it up!

  • Thanks dude. What do you mean how did I get the title?

  • at the beginning it says LLRG, you just give yourself that acronym?

  • Ah, no. It's a community of cool people who just like to play. We even have a web site and message board :) The who thing was started by zodiakironfist (although he'll probably denied he started it, saying he just gave it a name).

  • Whats the site, I want to check it out. I've been playing bass for two years, no lessons, but I can definitly tackle the Claypool pretty easily.

  • The LRRG site's URL it's on the info area in my channel (since I can't write it here).

  • perfectly played! I didnt catch 1 mistake.

DEFINITLEY 5/5! btw I am favoriting this.

  • Thank you very much :)

  • Thanks a lot, man :)

  • Hey man, awesome playing as always. My wife wants to put in a request lol. She says she wants to see you get jiggy. She says "since you play bass you need to act more like Flea"

  • LOL. Well, I'm a very shy person, but I've started to loosen up a bit. This you can even see on my videos, since the first ones are me just playing sitting down, then I got up and now I even show my face!. Even wore a top hat for another one as a tribute to a friend. Other times I find it tough to do something else because I'm really concentrating in not fucking the song up, and finally, it's hard to move when you're all plugged in a computer! But Ill try to loosen up more :)

  • i love your taste in music. i think you should do a cover on jerry the race car driver by primus or nobody weird like me by rhcp or stone cold bush by rhcp

  • Thanks a lot for commenting :). "Jerry" would be a tough one, since I don't do much tapping. I'll see what I can do about the other two!

  • PRIMUS SUCKS!!!!!!

  • THEY DO! Thanks, man!. :)

  • :[ ]

The most accurate cover I've heard! I really wish I could do this tune above all other Primus tunes. It's so cool. Excellent job!

  • Thanks, man! :)

  • Very Nice job! Keep it up

    Is the 480 active?

  • Thanks, man! :) It is active, yes.

  • lol!!!! you're defenetly next les!!! have you got a band?

  • Thanks, man! Im just starting with this new band. We'll see how things go! :)

  • Hey what kind of bass is that? Sounds super hot, and looks damn cool too

  • Thanks! It's an Ibanez Soundgear SR 480

  • Oh man amazing, I only have a GSR200 :-X but I'm using the measurements to make my own hopefully

  • patched up a few in my attempt haha thanks

    and real nice job man

  • Thank you!

  • Ahh when you were like goin up and down it was fuckin with the eyes.

Wicked, playing and as you said, a few mistakes, but everyone makes 'em so whatever lol.

  • Lol. Thanks, man :)

  • hey man that s pretty cool, think the pops on the high G need to be slightly more stacato'd, as in shorter yeah, the solo is a little messy an some of the fills are a lil wrong, use ur 3 fingers to tap the end of da solo on 3 strings yeah, but good playing tho...

  • Hell yeah, it's full of mistakes, it's Tommy the Cat! I lost a couple of fingers playing it! XD

    Thanks for commenting.

  • criticism well taken, fair play...

  • Criticism always well taken as long as you're not aggressive or annoying about it, which you weren't :)

  • Wow, thanks man!, glad you like it! :)

  • holy christ. that's fucking ridiculous.

kudos man... i don't think i can even move my hand that fast, let alone use it to play this song haha.

    very good job.

  • Thanks a lot, dude :)

  • nice attempt, didn't sound so bad either.

    warwick corvette?

  • Ibanez Soundgear on this one . Thanks for your comment :)

  • they look similar, the headtuners look like replica's from warwick tuners.

  • How the fuck is it possible to play this song?

  • Lol. I'll take that as a compliment, thanks man! :)

  • Yeah it was a compliment:P:D

  • Nice playing, I see lots of TTC covers on here, you and ironfist got it

  • You got it as well, man! Mind if I steal that Dolphin? XD

  • Amazing cover !

    Nice tone to bro ^^

Nice to see all of that vid' that I didn't see =)

    Keep it up !

  • Thanks Lenoar! Nice to hear from you, buddy!

  • nicenice i like that bass i want one for christmas u inspired me to learn slap:P

  • Wow, really?! You really should, you're awesomely talented. We need more girl-LRRGs!

    You'd kick ass at bass.

  • haha thanks:) ny recomdations for a cheap good bass i really want a 5 string

  • I'd recommend starting on a 4 string, but it's not written in stone.

Ibanez I think has the best cheap/basses out there, give them a try. There's also Squire basses which are made by fender, I'd give those a look as well.

    Hope this helps!

  • hmm ive had given those brands a look im also inteested in the epi thunderbird its priced right im just not sure if thats gonna have the tone. also surrpisingly, peavey makes a nice affordable bass for 280bucks i can get a 5 string with a quilt maple top and two jazz bass styl pickups

  • The thunderbird is quite popular. Never played it though, neither have I played a Peavey, so I can't give you any feedback on that =(.

But good luck! Anything I can do to help, just drop me a line!

  • Nice job Pook! That is my FAVORITE Primus song of all time! Now that line "Say baby..." is stuck in my head again. hahaha :)

  • Thanks a lot, Dave!

It's one of my favourites as well. Specially some of the amazing live versions of the tune out there (they usually stretch it to 9 minutes or so!), and I love it even more when he lets the audience scream "SAY BABY!" before going nuts.

    Thanks for your comment, dude!

  • Not really, I wanted to do this one ever since I started playing bass. Rob's version encouraged me to push on, though. Im quite proud of being able to play it, since I used to look at it as an "impossible one".

I'm glad you can hear the bass on this one, mate!

You don't deserve two stars, that's just a load of bullcrap :). Thanks for the rating!

    Rock on \m/.

  • oh and what model is that ibanez?

  • Thanks, Mr. Slug! It is an Ibanez Soungear SR480... and it's broken =(
