  • He looks like he's from another planet

  • This is way too BadAssed

  • Jesus, William Gibson if fucking TALL!

  • This whole draft dodger thing was something that Gibson admits was romanticized around him to give him extra counter-culture credibility. In frank honesty he said he was mostly chasing hippie girls. This, I think, would have been the best way to spend time in the late 1960s.

  • Gibson wasn't even a draft dodger. They never even bothered trying to draft him. Therefore, there was no draft for him to dodge.

  • who would want to recruit a person who's only goal was to try every drug known to man

  • @sequential32 the same army that has been known to pump their own people full of drugs? Possibly.

  • calling someone a 'draft dodger' is just calling them a sane human being.

  • As a resident of a country which was not involved in Vietnam, I find your assertion that Gibson is a draft dodger to be: invalid.

  • He was born in the U.S. and moved to Canada to dodge the draft, however. He said so himself in an interview. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to denigrate him, just trying to spread truth.

  • draft dodger?? wonder why he didnt wanna go murder for sick old men??? isn't that all our dream??

  • thank you, William, for slapping this up. There's some good hash in TO occasionally, eh.

  • lol =P

  • my kind of guy.

  • You say that like its a bad thing.

  • I'd cut my eyes out to dodge the draft, it's a noble cause I think.

  • This is a 19 year old William Gibson conducting CBC Television on a tour of Yorkville, Toronto; known then as the hippy heartland of Canada.

You can watch the whole thing at cbc:s homepage.

  • what is this from? is it just an interview or a whole documentary or what. as far as i knew, "no maps for these territories" was the only gibson documentary. and whats even stranger is that this is a good 15 years before neromancer. well before he had even begun writing. perhaps he was just a really popular hippie.

  • I'd like to know where this is from too. I have the "no maps..." DVD too, and this scene is nowhere on it :(.

  • what is he drolling about...

  • I just got through reading Virtual light and there he is.

  • Classic!
