This is from the 1975 album, 'Chet Atkins Goes To The Movies'. I still have 2 copies of it (vinyl). It also came with a book of all the transcriptions, done by John Knowles. It's by all time favorite Chet Atkins album.
@daffydoug Again Thank You ! Was just being honest lol The sounds or that distinctive sound of His picking has always had a soothing effect for me.An odd mix also ,I don't play and was raised a serious rock n roller and evolved into a dead head ,Blue grass has been in my heart though is why this probably has an attachment. Appreciate your efforts,Have 100's of hrs of this but it is nice to see some of this Live!. Have become fond of "This is the elevator music in Heaven" Rick Wichita Ks.
@daffydoug Yes sir ,I have seen that and a lot of the other collaborations he has done with different people.I had a friend(rip) whose dad was a music teacher also small town d.j.,and had amassed a lg. l.p. coll. of guitarists,I copied these onto cass. and my bro copied a lot onto c.d. for a present for me. I did not bother to mark a lot of it ,and have no idea what became of the l.p's oops After seeing a lot of this stuff I understand how rare some of it may be lol. Again thx Rick Wichita ks.
@wichitarick True! A lot of these tunes I have posted are very rare indeed. What they release commercially from Chet is anything but the good stuff. But I GOT the good stuff! And I have it by the truck load.
CribNotes, Thank you for the "heads-up" on the "When You Wish Upon A Star". I just listened to it, it's just great. I was looking for a version to put on my Myspace page the other day because as everyone knows...everyone needs to be able to make a wish and have it come true, right?
Thanks CribNotes. I also went to you chan. & watched your vid re: Con. Ron Paul. Great stuff!
Thanks again Daffy for the great post of When You Wish Upon A Star by Chet. You can't miss with Chet. Thanks AZSun1994
Over the Rainbow has been my favorite song since I was a child. I was born in 1952. Thank you for putting this up, I had hurd this version a few years ago and glad I found it here. Thank You
Chet Atkins is far and away the greatest guitarist who ever lived, that we know of. Les Paul couldn't hold a candle to him, and he knows it. But he was good at creating gadgetry and new sounds.
@JBgarbuz Wow.. calm down there. Chet Atkins was one of the greatest and most diversified guitarists to have lived, but he isn't "far and away the greatest who ever lived". Andres Segovia, John Williams, Joe Pass, and Jim Hall- all great guitarists, and I'm sure that they'd give Mr. Guitar a run for his money.
Thank goodness so many "pickin' lovers" post here as it gives me a plethora of artists to write down and then go listen to them on the Internet!! However, I don't see many mentions of Merle Travis. I think he's great and on a level with Chet.
What do you all think of Merle Travis, and why so little comparisons to Chet??
Given your contention is true: Immaculate technique is really nothing to scoff at, you say "mechanical" as if it's an insult. Music isn't the art of robots, true, but a shoddy guitarist cannot summon perfect technique, but a guitarist with perfect technique can summon emotion-- So, you be the judge of there. Given your contention is even true, of course. :)
I really like this version better than the one with Les Paul, but both versions are great. This one really touched me. I am a female, so cut me some slack all you guitar players when I say that, it was so beautiful it made me shed a tear. And that is what music can be all about sometimes, isn't it. Heart, and beauty. Thanks again for all you post daffydoug. It is much appreciated.

And what about Django and Emmit Ray? They were pretty damn great as well.
punchmetender 1 year ago
@punchmetender I agree they were great but they were single string pickers, Chet loved Django

a shoddy guitarist may not summon perfect technique but most often then not they are known to express perfect emotion..
Atomicflash500 2 years ago
Emotion is subjective though, technique is not. Anyone can appreciate perfect technique, but "perfect" emotion is something different to everyone.

@Knarf009 well-stated comments, and I agree. Also, beautiful version of this piece..

Sounds like Chet's tribute to Lenny Breau. Beautifully done. Les Paul would say so himself - they appreciated each others styles.
