This song and "Ain't That Some Shame" are fun tunes to play. Those tags Son came up with are amazing, my guitar hero for 20 years. Check out the DVD of his bio "The Son Seal Story"
First time I saw Son was late 70's @ Chicagofest. He opened for Muddy Waters, but Mud was in the hospital and couldn't make it so Son played about 4 hours. He completely blew away everyone there. It was a SRO show and I was dead f'ing center with my elbows on stage. I'll never forget it...obviously. A great loss to the blues....some trivia...he played DRUMS on the classic Albert King LP - Live Wire/Blues Power.
Truly one of the all time greats. What a fabulous video. Sorry I never got a chance to see him. The whole band is awesome, the bassist has sick chops. Plays so well with the guitar.
Saw him in 1987 and he killed me. He single handedly turned me into a blues freak, saw him 40 or 50 times in Chicago, never disappointed. Seriously, I would plan my month around Son Seals gigs back in the day. This video is freaking golden, wish that more video of Son Seals could surface.
The only time I was fortunate enough to catch Son Seals was at the 1st annual Berghoff Blues festival in Wisconsin. Made the drive for the blues, but really to see him. A short time after getting a signature, I leaned on the stage and watched him and the band let it rip to close out the festival. All the way home, and for the next three days, my ears wouldn't stop ringing. Needless to say that's the only time where it felt good. I really miss Son to this day.
I've actually lost track of how many times I've been an eyewitness to the pyrotechniques of Son Seals. If I had one wish it would be to place everyone watching this into a time macheen and send y'all back to The Speakeasy on Norfolk St. in Cambridge, Massachusetts circa 1976.
They're both gone now, Son Seals and The Speakeasy is a Bank parking lot.
@stan2211stan I saw son maybe more than you, ha ha ,my favorite. A blues club in cambridge called nightstage he was on fire one night and played till 2 am place went crazy.then I saw one of his last shows on a boston harbor cruise. was sad, his health was failing and he lost a leg to diabetes after the fact his wife shot him in the head few yrs earlier. He was still playing well but needed to sit down and looked frail.soon after that I heard he passed,I got to have a few words and a handshake
I saw son a few years before he passed playing at the Grand Emporium in Kansas City Mo. I was sick with a bad cold, but had to see him. He blew me away and it was one of the greatest evenings of my life. Thankyou Son
I discovered Son Seals in '97. I purchased the 'Live and Burnin' CD. There is no one else for me but Son Seals for emotional soul blues which is where the blues comes and the blues is how these feelings are sung -- and he did it the best. Hoop As a tribute to Son Seals I wrote the blues song 'Blues the Language of the Soul' thnks again to Son Seals. If thre is a video of Son performing 'Call My Job' I would greatly appreciate it to be posted. Thanks Hoop
I played with Son for the last 5 years of his life, on the East coast and occasionally in Chi-town, great guy, great musician. He was my idol growing up so to get the gig with him was amazng, but more important to become his friend was truely special. Not a day goes by when I'm jammin with my band I dont think about the big man!!!!!
Love Son Seals. Got very saddened when I'd heard that he crossed over. Wish he could have stayed with us a little longer, always hoped to see catch him in another concert.
stan mixon on bass, willie"the touch" hayes on drums! chi-town heavies! son was famous for his "tight" bands and was a real taskmaster, like james brown!RIP Bro!
I worked at a club in San Francisco many years ago, I was about 19 and knew nothing of blues music, Son seals played that night and blew me(and everyone else away) He played there about once every 2 years after that, always a gentleman and always a scorching performance.RIP Mr. Seals and thank you for opening a young mans eyes to the blues
I got to see Son Seals ROCK THE HOUSE at Rockefellars in Houston, Texas. Just a fantastic show. The Kinsey Report led in and they rocked the house as well. It doesn't get much better than that.
Your old man was one of a kind I got to play with him in his later years and we had a blast! I still keep in touch with Rodney, next time I'm in Chicago I'll drop you an e-mail, Big Jim kohler
