  • this girl can sing, she is not selling, she is singing, very very rare in this day...i can listen to her all day...all night...an angel

  • @KimyaEn I also agree with you, might just be the fact that she can't have had as much of a connection with the song. Coming from her it just sounds like pretty words :/

  • I love this! I like how Hayley's arrangement has a different feel than Loreena's. Music isn't supposed to always stay the same. It's supposed to change with the performer. Both recordings are amazingly good.

  • Maybe this girl is singing much better than Loreena. She has a clear and beautiful voice. But I couldn't find any soul in this version. Loreena's voice just effects me very much. So I still prefer the original one.

  • @KimyaEn I agree. This does not have the same power as Loreenas. Not even close. Hayley has a good voice but it does not have the substance Loreenas has for this song. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to do a serious comparison.

  • Urdolf. I'm not 100 percent sure but I think the harmony is Hayleys little sister.

  • Hayley has a great voice in this but the background music is not 10% as good as Loreena's.

  • I think both Loreena McKennitt and Hayley Westenra are among the greatest singers in the world today, so I'm glad to see Hayley picking up Loreena's song. Good job Hayley!

  • whats a celtic reasure?

  • No offense to Loreena McKennitt's fans, but I personally think Hayley is awesome at this song... she just lacks arrangement Loreena has.

  • I think this young lady has a true angelic voice. i just think that everyone is so comfortable with Loreena's masterpiece, that it would be hard for anyone to match it. I absolutely dig hayley's voice, but the country sound is what takes it away from me. adding a tin whistle could have kept in the celtic sound. Thumbs Up, Hayley. Now I have to listen to more of your music.

  • She did good...I'm impressed.

  • Love Loreena's but this is a beautiful version too. Who's the harmony -- lovely touch

    .

  • Love Loreena's but this is a beautiful version too. Who's the harmony -- lovely touch.

  • like jackie evancho better

  • Hayley Westenra sings this a little different...quite frankly, I like Loreenna McKennitt's version and Westenra's version equally.

  • @MysteriousBrownEyes1

Calling Loreena's voice "strong and clear" compared to Hayley is a joke. Loreena is "ethereal and smoky," she almost whispers the song. If you like Loreena better, all the power to you, she's a good singer. But stop with the nonsense.

  • Nice voice...but it's just missing something....

  • AWESOME

  • great voice

  • i actually like this version a tad more. but when she sings may it be i prefer enya... weird.

  • Beautiful............excellent rendering.

  • Very lovely but I like the original version by Loreena McKennitt a bit better it has a bit more boldness or something. Hayley does have an awesome voice though.

  • nice version

  • I was a little worried to listen to this song at first because I love Loreena's so much it concerned me that it might be the one fail that Hayley could possibly do. I've got to say that I absolutely love both versions for different, and possibly opposite, reason's. Loreena's voice is so strong and clear, she could do no wrong in my opinion. Haley, on the other hand, has such a beautiful, almost delicate, sound that I love as well. This version is just as perfect as Loreena's.

  • I love this song pretty much, as everyone here I have a story with it, but about this version - The drums fucked up everything

  • It's kind of sad that such a talented singer is always compared to someone else who has done the song before. In my humble opinion her redition is flawless, she has a beautiful voice.

  • @Nevermore1953 that tends to happen when you cover other people's songs

  • Added captions for you guys. Enjoy :).

  • Hayley Westenra sings this well, but it feels empty without the musical accompaniment in Loreena McKennitt's version.

  • With the differences in style, I would not discount either Lorena or Hayley. They are both good and do justice to this song. The majors strength being their voice.

  • visit the hattiepinkdaisy version its neopreraphealitalicious watch?v=or6DK7o7FxU

  • This version isn't as magical as Loreena's version, but Hayley does have a beautiful voice.

  • It's hard to not enjoy this song, no matter who sings it. It's a beautiful composition.

  • I much prefer Loreena McKennit as well. This version is stripped down way too much both instrumentally, and vocally, taking away the depth and beauty of ms. McKennits version.

  • i prefer Loreena. her version is more authentic, more energetic.

  • Having listened to both Hayley and Loreena; there is a difference in style. I prefer Hayley for this reason: Loreena sings to my ears and it sounds good. Hayley sings to my heart, and that feels wonderful.

  • Very well put. I completely agree.

  • On another note, Hayley did an ok job on the song but Lorennas version is much better.

Not just her voice but no one can top Lorennas band.. they play musical instruments like a mad genius.

  • @AdoreYouInAshXI Loreena is by far my favorite artist that ever lived but Hayley has a better voice. I still prefer Loreena's version to Hayley's because there is more to a performance than a great voice. You nailed it talking about Loreena's band. How she can get those fantastic performers together to tour with her is a tribute to Loreena as a person and to her musical genius.

  • I prefer Loreena's version... But I must say Hayley did a quite excellent job :) They're both amazing vocalists~~

  • she's an angel...

  • To me Loreena sounds more Celtic. No one can match her ancient, godly presence, that`s why I think her version is better. Anyway, this is HER song in the first place.

  • Haley Westenra is the voice that is a gift from God. All of dirtbag Tiger Woods endorsements should be given to her. Americans would buy her products. No one wants dirtbag Tiger Woods who betrayed his wife and children with 14 mistresses, love children, and kept whores from 2 escort services on tap for 5 years.

  • What does any of this have to do with Tiger Woods? Moron.

  • Erm she's from New Zealand but I agree the song is great :)

  • She is from New Zealand.

  • While I will always think Hayley Westenra has the voice of an angel, I am also a Loreena McKennitt fan, and think that for the opening Loreena sings it better. BUT for the chorus, I love listening to Hayley's (second) version.

  • JaneAustenGirl2, yes! From Celtic Treasure Special Edition! A rare version! Wonderful!!!

  • are you sure this is from Celtic Treasure??

  • nice version but loreena is better

  • Loreen's version is better instrumentally, but Hayley is by far the better singer

  • Not necessarily. They have such different voice styles, they can't really be compared on the same level.

But, yeah. Loreen's instrument version kicks this one to kingdom come. This one is just missing the "I can listen to this a billion times in a row and not be tired of it" feeling.

  • just another afternoon of triangle breaking

  • I love Hayley, but Loreena is incredible and I prefer her version of this song.

  • @ObsessiveSimons I think she does a good job, yeah but Loreena has the essence of it. She has the soul of it, like in order to unlock the right pitch the right noies, the right story of the song, you need a key and Loreena is the key.

  • @ObsessiveSimons I like both versions, but if I had to choose, I'd be with you.

  • @ObsessiveSimons

I like to follow in the footsteps of Lorenna mackennitt harley has a good future, because his voice is angelic

  • I usually like Hayley Westenra, but this is a fairly mediocre cover of a brilliant song. The pronunciation is wanting, and the pauses leave it a little brittle. The chorus isn't very good either. Good effort Hayley, but it is just that, an effort.

  • I agree. It's not as good as Loreena's version, but it is at least pleasant.

  • What is a "mummer"?

  • They're actors in folk plays called "mummers plays."

  • Mummer = Mask, I think xD

Hmmm... her voice is beutiful, but I prefer Loreena's version.

  • A mediocre version of an amazing song.

  • I like how there is less instrumentation in this version, but I like Loreena's version also.

  • This song is addicting. I love it!

  • Hayley make it good, but Loreena's Version is in this Song a little bit favorit!

But I love Hayley more than all other!

    Lovely greatings

    Jan love Hayley 4 EVER

  • Me encanta esta versión, pero es verdad que la de Lorena tiene mejor instrumentación. Igual es hermosa la canción, en todas las versiones!

  • Genial, amo este tema, pero la versión de Loreena siempre será insuperable, ella es única...

  • Great effort, I'll definately listen to more of her, but she's no Loreena.

  • Verry nice voice, but no match for Loreena.

  • indeed

  • I found Loreena McKenitt through Hayley Westenra, listening to this song specifically. I can't really say I have a preference. I thought it was a cool song and decided I had to hear the original and found a new singer who is a harper as well.

  • It is a wonderful song. Both Artists did well in singing this song. Hayley is NZ so yes she has more of an accent, But still just as beautiful.

  • marry me hayley

  • Hayley Westenra's voice is better, but Loreena McKennitt's arrangement is better.

  • The chorus is where Hayley sounds closest to Loreena. However I have to agree Loreena makes this kind of song come alive. Still I love that Hayley is up for the challenge of matching Loreena.

  • Im sorry, but I feel that she took the "essence" out of the original song. She has a beautiful voice, sure, but the song was meant to be a folk-loire Irish soul song. This is most certainly not it.

  • Personally, I think for this song, Loreena's version is the best

  • i love this song. Loreena McKennitt sings this song really good. But I must admit, Hayley Westenra sings it good too.

  • I absolutely love this song and Hayley's voice (it's gorgeous), but this made me bored. Loreena's original fully embodies the spirit of the festival she's singing about, all the wildness and fire.

  • I kinda agree. Loreena's version is haunting and musically brilliant. Hayley's voice is excellent. Shame about the music arrangement here.

  • I'd love to hear them sing it together, I think that with Hayley's (well not to sure how to put it so i wont) and Loreena McKennitt's passion it would be better then the two apart.

  • Wonderful rendition. This kiwi loves Loreena but feels Hayley is just as good.

  • Comment removed

  • I love Hayley but this song belongs to Loreena McKennitt alone.

They both have their own magic. Cheers.

  • I agree. Much as I love all the girls of Celtic Woman, they really shouldn't try to cover Loreena McKennitt. They're brilliant and talented, but Loreena really lives and breathes everything she sings and makes it absolutely come alive. Next to her, the Celtic Woman covers all sound like voice recitals.

  • Loreena McKennitt`s version is way over produced IMO, this is much simpler and easy to listen to.

  • do you think? THe instrumentation , hurdy gurdy and such give it the feel of its time. Haley is a decent singer but not up to Loreena in my view

  • @sgtcrab1 I guess Loreena is a more experienced performer compared to Hayley who`s only 22 years old. That`s evident in Nights from the Alhambra, for instance.

  • @Delgift Fair comment. Westenra is somewhat more "classical" Great singer. I especially like her treatments of Pokarekare Ana. L McK is somehow earthier I think.

  • @sgtcrab1 It`s great you said ``earthier´´ because I left a comment on another video ( Loreena`s Full Circle ) saying the following: ``Her voice comes from the roots of this Earth, and echo in every corner of the world´´.

  • Loreenas version is immortal

this version is forgettable, sorry but youll have to do much much harder when u get near Loreenas master pieces!

though she has awsome voice no doubt about that.

  • I agree with you, hayley is one of the most blessed singers in the world, but loreena is a GODDESS, no one in our life time will come close to her.

  • Could not agree more! It's no fault of Hayley's, but Loreena is just so much more than a beautiful voice. She is natural, raw passion, and she lives and breathes every song she touches, turning it to gold. She is one of those truly rare talents.

  • Hayley's version is very pretty, and she does it well. Her rendition suits her...

On the other hand, Loreena's version makes me feel like I'm dancing in the flickerling light of a bonfire, taking part in some mysterious ritual that sends its soul to the stars themselves. It's suspenseful, exciting, mysterious... Hayley's is sweet, airy, calming...

So it really depends on what you're looking for out of the experience. ;)

  • I love your review! =) You should do it for a living-you have a very cool descriptive style about it.

  • @LadyRissa211 Very well put. I am so glad that Hayley covered this song because it has introduced many more people to the wonders of Loreena's music.

  • Hayley sings this far better live.

  • I think she did great here

  • a great voice but the song is sung a lot richer by Loreena McKennitt

  • I think she did a great job! Well done!

  • I think her voice is much lovelier in and of itself, but the way she sings this song is not equal to the original.

  • Ok everyone just calm down!

I think this is an awesome cover, though i like Loreenas better. :)

  • She has a beautiful voice, but I tend to agree with a previous commenter - she just seems a bit flat. Especially compared to Loreena, who is so passionate.

  • I like Loreena Mckennitt's version, but this is a great cover!

  • very good preformance

  • Trying to make a quantitative judgment of an opinion? Might I also say: trolling fail.

  • It's good, but it was better hearing it live from Hayley herself.

  • It's the drums that don't work in this re-make. Not the instruments. It's too pop, not mystical enough.

  • Loreena is better

  • They both have very unique voices. I love singing this song.

  • Good cover but her voice just isn't as strong as Loreena McKennitt's- it's a lot thinner. Pretty, but not as rich.

  • pretty

  • Her accent here annoys me just a bit. Are they trying to get her the change it or something?

  • If you listen to the original, it sound's like she is doing her best to imitate the vocals. I actually like it, but its a matter of taste. I honestly prefer Hayley's voice to Loreena's but both versions are fantastic...I have them both on one CD.

  • Theoogalieboogalie, you are a litte annoying.Any way we can get you to chancge that or something?Shut your pie hole.

  • Dude, you should shut your own "pie hole".

Reread your comment to find out why!

I can be critical of this song if I want to, regardless of what poor little

    nonnelyentraccm feels about it.

    Understand?

  • No I don't understand.Now what?

  • Aww you don't understand?

    It's ok... *Pats on head*...

  • Cliches and name calling... You cant be older than 13 or 14...

  • Where'd you find this?

  • Some people have commented that there is lack of instrumentation on Hayley's version of this song, but actually for me I feel sometimes less instrumentation is better.

Sometimes a song can have too much instrumentation & can be distracting;taking away from the vocals with overpowering instrumentation/overproduction to a degree.I am one who does prefer less instrumentation on this song & nice to hear the lovely voice of Hayley.I am a Loreena fan & was fortunate to see her once in Los Angeles.

  • I totally agree.

She has the rare voice which is able to stand al capella without getting boring.

The songs written on her body as well.

If youre a heavy metal fan, we then there simply is no base for comparing.

  • :D

    Yay!

She didn't actually ruin it like most people do when they cover a song

I of course like Loreena's version more

But Hayley did a really good job!

  • i know i will have people giving this a thumbs down, but I prefer this version over the original. I just wish Hayley had more instruments backing her. I like Loreena McKennit's version though too.

  • I wanted to hate this version but couldn't. I'll take Loreena's but I am now intersted is this singer also. I think it is the lack of instrumentation that makes the version not very comparable to Loreena's.

  • both r good singing this song :]

  • both are good, i like the music of loreen better than hayeley, but hayeley's voice sounds a little better and does the trill's a little better! but they are both really great!

  • I like both the original version & Hayley's. Both have a beat & sound great. & to the person who said Enya's version comes close: Enya does not sing this song & never has, & I know because I have all of Enya's cds.

  • loreena mckennit is the original artist.(forgive my spelling of her name, can't find my cd :)

  • Yes I know Lorenna McKennit is the original artist. Her version is here on Youtube.

  • I am in love all over again. Both Loreena and Hayley complement this song. Both lovely women with lovely voices.

  • the original will always be better. just my opinion though.

  • why does this sound country?

  • I dont know that that was the attempt here Edelien - but having said this there is a definitive link between Celtic music and some forms of C & W - blue grass in particular is somewhat derivative of Celtic Music.

There are some songs Hayley has done which are intended to have a C & W feel....

    Jon

  • actually Celtic ussually has no singing, lest its in Gaelic.Often it is on the old wolf drums and harps strung with hair or sinew.

  • damn this song makes want to take up my sword and go slay some orcs......no offense but the original is better...but only slightly

  • Though the orginal is better, this is a pretty good version, I'll add it to my collection!

  • Oh stop hating. I'd like to hear you sing it better then. No? Then hush!

  • This young lady has become my favorite female vocalist of all time! Haven't heard her do anything close to a bad song....absolutely beautiful voice! She was being compared to Charlotte Church, early on-I say there's NO comparison at all...she blows Charlotte away completely!

  • Actually her voice is good for other songs. In this song it did not fit with the theme

  • Ah JESUS , she managed to make a complete mess of the original song . God bless Lorenna McKennitt . Noone in their own minds could appreciate such a bad remake ( if we can call it a remake , nothing`s changed except the horrible voice )

  • Then why are you here? A little Stupid maybe?

  • Why?

  • This song is not in the US version of Celtic Treasure. It is not in the US version of her first album "Pure" either. In fact, the US version of Pure is missing five or six tracks. So if you're in the U.S., you're pretty much phucked.

  • WOW WHO IS THIS KID>> I never thought anyone else could sing this song but she does a great job pf it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Peace

    Love

    Happiness

    SpinningStarr

  • these are the kinds of songs they sang in the kingdoms back then

  • She's amazing! She does it very good! Loreena use (in my opinion) more intresting instruments in this song, but this is great!

    Keep the good work Hayley!

  • I love this version though. Of course Loreena's better but I love what ever Hayley does. She has such a gorgeous voice!

  • She's got a nice voice, but it's to "girly", compared to Loreena's that is.

  • Mummers dance is an old celtic song, it is not Loreena's song.

  • I know, but Loreena's version of it is better is what I'm saying. :)

  • I hardly think it'd say "Music & Lyrics by Loreena McKennitt" if it wasn't Loreena's own song? That's exactly what it says on the album. So unless Loreena is lying and taking false credit it seems as though the song IS Loreena's!

  • @lapuriter Mummer's Dance is a Loreena McKennitt original. I am a huge fan and I have never heard anything about this song other than it being written by Loreena. If you have any proof for your claim please let me know.
