It's a school in the northern areas. Let's not close our eyes and minds to truths because of what it may make the country look like. Around the world the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer. The song is the truth though.
i think this is walmer high ja? i took my soccer girls there not so long ago for a game...but i think its a bit crass saying this is what all p.e schools look like...Pearson (the school where i worked) is pretty kif and most of the schools are amazing!
That doesn't look like the real schools in S.A.I went to one of the schools in P.E. and that school didn't look like these.Dont bring South Africa down.
this is rubbish. you can't say this is the state of schools in PE. wat about grey, collegiate, pearson - all fantastic schools. this person is giving the wrong impression
Which neighbourhood and school is this? What the heck is the govt doing? Ugh.... this makes me angry. Can local business not step in? Where are the fund raisers? I'm from PE and went to school there. Schools had their own fund raisers to help maintain school grounds. Surely something can be done!
Listen man, I went to a crappy school in PE, but that didn't hamper me in life. Life if filled with inequalities, some good and most bad. Why did you not go to the good schools as well? I know some people that went to great Private Schools and ended up fucked and on the other hand, my poorer freinds have blossomed in their own right. Thats just the way life goes...
its not about choosing the bad areas why should there be a bad and a good area everybody dont have a choice u might have been able to go but people living in this area cannot afford to go to rich model c schools!
4 me coming back 2 Wales, learning the language and culture, realising we were a tribe that was invaded, opened my eyes. Wales is big on culture and revival of the language it's working here. I was wrong to say tribes. I apologise, t'was totally not what I meant. Heritage and how we can learn from our history more like it. Thanx for the wisdom. I was only saying what I experienced while at school those many years ago. I don't appreciate them laughing either wendy. Kind Regards, Gareth
It wasn't offensive - I thought it sounded like the opinion of someone foreign (Welsh - I guessed!) who'd never lived in SA and maybe didn't understand that tribalism was actually used to keep blacks 'down'. Not sure how much of their own history black kids were taught. All the white kids had the same curriculum - black kids' curriculum was different, so I don't know. (I was at school in Port Elizabth by the way.)
I was born in KZN darling and left to catch up on the technology 4 years ago and stumbled onto my Welsh roots at 35yrs. My family had to leave because of the depression, early 1900's and were also child slaves in the cotton mills of Manchester. White slaves as it were. Vincent and I worked in the garden and Dad paid for his books etc. He's a teacher now and Dad gets a Christmas card every year. His curriculum was the same as ours in Natal at the time and went to school in the township.
Was the Welsh family history explanation a reply to me? Some of my ancestors also came from Wales and Gloucestershire in 1820 and in the later 19th C.
Never meant to offend. I meant, when I was @ school we had Afrikaaner/Eng conflicts. Afrikaaners learnt what Eng did. Eng learnt what Afrikaaner did. Everyone's curriculum was the same. Imagine being in a township school having to learn about both of these and not much of your own. I've learnt to think for myself since.
Great Video, Makes you think. Dig it. whats the way forward though?? it's great to state a problem but whats the solutuion?? Great song aswell, who is it??
Looks like the northern areas, some of the schools are in really bad condition but then there are others that are in good condition. Nothing on the level of Grey or Collegiate but still good. I came through that school system and it wasn't as bad as that video makes it look.
Yes I agree, what is the world coming to if people are laughing at what others have to put up with while the government sit back and look on with back pockets bulging.
good video. would also be interesting to see the video cut in with contrasting footage of pupils and grounds at Grey high school. Would make a really provocating video.
Ye as it is man... change the curriculum so that the kids can learn their true heritage... the tribes... not the imperialist life that jumped on their ancestors...
You think so? Actually, tribalism is what the old racist apartheid government encouraged in order to keep black South Africans 'in their place' - uneducated and un-democratized. The education system was called Bantu Education and was used as a tool to oppress, and in order to 'divide and rule.' As long as the many tribes were divided and kept out of the cities in their tribal 'homelands', black unity and solidarity was less likely.
