yaleappliance, but they are also are 3 times as expensive and break down ten times as much as conventional front loader. Customer service from many of the manufacturers of these machines absolutely stinks as well. After seeing and learning about the maintenance nightmares of front load washers that are sold in America, I couldn't be happier that I'm wasting so much water with my conventional top loader. At least it does the job at hasn't broken in 10 years.
@BlogShag The first generation of front loaders especially the Maytag Neptune soured alot of people, and it is also true service stinks in the appliance industry in general. However, the newer machines are a drastic improvement over the originals. We have always transcended industry problems by offering our own service. Remember, the difference is profound between front and top loads. It is water, but also energy, faster spin with 50% greater capacity
@yaleappliance . However the newer machines have drastically improved? What are you smoking? Have you seen all the complaints and the pending class action lawsuit against the Kenmore Oasis? The Whirlpool Duet and Frigidaire models are 7 year itch maintenance nightmares or FAILURES waitin' to happen.
Please explain to me why someone should pay $1000 for a machne that lasts five years and needs maintenance every year. Conventional top loaders never give these problems.
I'll stick with my 1978 Maytag Top Loader. In all this time I have only had to replace 1 belt, the hose the water goes through to fill the tub, and the timer motor. total repairs in 32 years = less then $50 and it's still going strong. If you really want to know about the quality of modern front loaders just go to a used appliance store. I haven't been to one yet that has anything good to say about them. They do a lot of business selling top loaders to former front loader owners
@tallboyyyy its true. the old maytags run till they completely rust out. if it does go. get a wp toploader that uses a drive coupling. their reliablity puts these 1200 dollar pieces of shit to shame. most wp still last 20 years. the new maytag top loaders are crap and so is ge.
Front Load washer are the worst washers on the planet. They are poorly designed and create the perfect environment for mold and mildew. DO NOT BUY ONE! Look online and find 1,000 of people that have wasted their hard earned money on smelly front load washers. I have an LG and I regret the day I purchased it. LG has several class action suit against them. Maytag and Sears also have been sued. Check it out!
I sell appliances and have owned front loaders for many years. They work great. You just got a lemon. Don't generalize on one experience. I hear good things every single day since I talk to people about them every single day.
@breakspirit im in appliance repair. front load washers are neat. but id rather have my whirlpool top loader. for one thing, the controlboards and motor regulators go all the time on these things and cost about 100 dollars just for the part. and if that doesnt turn you off. the average family of 5 gets little more than 7 years because the main bearing wears out. never seen one last longer than ten.
so tell me, is all that dough really worth a few bottles of detergent and a cheaper water bill?
buy a cheap roper to get a good washer all the others have cheap non epoxy coated ecu's so they will fail, dont get me started on the drum spider support.
the washer makers are takeing planned obsolescence alittle to far and need to be sued
I am completely puzzled about how to use a front loader. I need to know because not many laundromats have top loaders anymore. I have heard that with High Efficiency front loading machines, only to use 1/4 cup of detergent to prevent oversudsing. Does the same rule apply to front loaders which are not "high efficiency?" I tried using less detergent, and my clothes did not look or smell clean. I'm worried however that if I put TOO much detergent in a FL that the soap won't rinse out.
i went back to a top loader , if you use heavy soil or whites option and extra rinse, that pretty much negates your savings, plus two hours for a fl vs 20 minutes for a tl
My GE front load washer broke after a few months of use and like others the repairman came out and never really fixed the problem. Terrible customer service, and a lousy product. $700 down the drain. I will never buy anything GE again!
I think your machine was built by Frigidaire. Personally, I wouldn't buy anything built by White Consolidated Industries. Everything they build is junk.
We bought LG TROMM front load washer and dryer. We complained and complained about the moldy mildew smell. Emails, phone calls. No results. We are very disappointed.
does your machine have a sanitizing cycle? It's nessecary to wash with hot water sometimes. a change to powder detergent (HighEfficent) can help too. And the most importand thing to pay attention on: allways leave the door open for a while, so the humidity can evaporate. In europe we don't know the problems you have with your FL machines.
@DominikDrinkhahn , That's because Europeans actually read the instruction manual. LOL! That's too much to ask of Americans. Anyone complaining about mold problems with their front loader hasn't read the instruction manual.
now i notice. front loading is better than top load. but OMG. i have to wake up early. it's take too long to do the job.yupp..i rather wait than having my T-shirt stretch out.
I wish I would have bought me a new top load washer instead of a Kenmore HE3 front load washer. I let the saleman talk me into it and it has been one big headache!! I have had 6 different repairmen and not one of them know what they are doing!!! Its 2-1/2yrs old 1400 dollars. My old one was a top loader and 13 yrs old and never once did I call a repairman on it I will sell this junk back to ya.
You're a tad late. Bendix and Westinghouse were making front loading washers 60+ years ago. In fact, the first automatic washer was a 1938 Bendix. A front loading machine.
Fromt loaders have been out that long, but it took so long for them to take off in North America. For years, people have preferred top loaders. I've used front loaders for more than 20 years, and my current washer at home is a 10 year old Frigidaire Gallery. It's holding up well, and hope it lasts. Like someone else posted, the new washers (top loaders included) are junk. Too computerized, mechanical problems, cycles are too long (FL only), and overall quality.
I think the reason it took so long for front loaders to take off in this country is because years ago water, natural gas and electricity were basically cheap. Not any more! Everything these days seem to be computerized. I think they call it PROGRESS! (YEA RIGHT!)
This dry and washer suck! Wait until you get the E68 error! STAY AWAY! Run away as fast as you can!

The real reason is the Department of Energy federal mandate on energy usage that requires a 35% energy reduction by 2011.
The traditional top load can no longer be produced after that. These machines are being replaced by HE top load washers, or front loaders.

direct drive DC motor unit, like the samsungs and certain whirlpools, all the way. No more bearing problems and far more dependable.

ya seems odd for years commercial washers like coin laundry have been front loading
garycalgary 3 years ago
That's because front loaders use less water than a typical top loader. The owners wouldn't make much money with all top loaders.
