My Doc said if you live above the Mason Dixon line you cannot possibly get enough sun to produce enough vitamin D. I live BELOW the Mason Dixon in Virginia. She still recommends 1000-2000 mg. per day.
Nice work but how did you find my doctors? The script for Vitamin D is just a way for pharmaceutical to cash in on nutrients and I hear that it is basically a synthetic form and hardly absorbable. You need D3. Skin cancer as all cancers has Skyrocketed as we were warned to stay away from the sun. Go back outside, play dance garden... just maybe not at noon. Shell of "Recovering Autism ADHD and Special Needs," on youtube
The vitamin D that is being made by the sun from cholesterol on your skin is "alone." But, of course you're right. In an ideal world we would get all our vitamins and minerals from our food. However, according to the USDA our fruits and vegetables have 30-50% fewer nutrients in them than they did just 50 years ago. This is before the food is shipped and processed. Therefore I believe there is good reason for reasonable supplementation. Tom Ballard, ND
@checkingavailabilify Hi and thanks for taking the time to write me. I have two others posted also and you can read my blog on facebook at PureWellnessCenters. Best of health, Tom Ballard, ND
Excuse me, my groupmates and I are doing on a research for vitamin D..but somehow,we're a bit confused on the types of vitamin D..Is it Vitamin D2 which is sold as supplements to aid the lack of vitamin D in the body? they say we can synthesize vitamin D in our body from sunlight, does that count? so it's not a good idea to be exposed in the sunlight nowadays because it can cause us cancer??
@Mieraz22, Generally speaking you want to use D3 orally. Sunshine is the best way to get vit D and the way people got it for thousands of years, before there were dermatologist selling patent medicines. If you tan slowly and avoid burning and consume enough antioxidants you have little to fear from the sun. Also, while skin cancers are common, most are not lethal, whereas vitamin D protects you from much deadlier cancers such as prostate, breast, and colon. Have your doctor test your vit D level
@Mieraz22 , did I say that sun was not the best way? Of course it is. I thought I made it clear that if you exposed yourself safely to the sun it was safe. However, if you don't live in Seattle or work inside during daylight hours like most of the world you may need to take a supplement. Best of health.
@Billosfrog, I'm a strong supporter of data-based medicine. Problem is, the drug companies are not. A survey published in the May 4th 2011 Journal of the American Medical Association found that only half of the new prescription medications making it to market over the past decade had the proper data supporting their claims – yet the FDA approved them anyhow. Also see the book Overdosed America. As for Vit D; there have been thousands of studies showing its benefits.
This folks is how an appointment with a doctor goes like. If you guys think these doctors are actually dumb and dont know the great harm and torture they do upon innocent people you are in for a rude awaking. These doctors are pure evil and work for drug companies, they get kickbacks for prescribing toxins.
Catherine; Yes, feel free to use them in your waiting room. I have a nutrition book if you're looking for a good basic nutrition book for your patients: Nutrition-1-2-3. You can buy them on Amazon and directly from me.
I hate to be the little black raincloud that steals your thunder buuut. Vitamin D, unlike say Vitamin C, is a hormone. Regularly taking more then the RDV of vitamin D may significantly speed your aging. Taking about 10x the recommended daily value can cause signifigant bone spur growth, and lumps and deformations in your face. See wikipedia for more details
Except the mainstream medical community doesn't know nearly enough about Vitamin D to actually recommend a sensible RDV, so that point is beyond moot. There is far more reliable evidence in favor of much higher Vitamin D doses than is officially recommended. I'd start following actual scientific studies instead of Wikipedia, personally.
@lebluedude Yes, you're right, it's crazy to prescribe 50,000 of D which is often the uninformed MDs solution. As I tried to communicate in the video: 1. Get your vit D tested. 2. Do mild sun exposure 3. Take a daily supplement (not a massive dose once a week). 4. Recheck your blood level.
Too true. When the only tool you have is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail - all those people have is rx pads. Fuck big pharma and their stranglehold over modern medicine.
This is why I stay away from traditional doctors. They are the quacks. Dr. Mercola has a great vitamin D spray and has written a lot on this subject on his website.
Actually, in Washington state, where I live, I'm a Naturopathic doctor and am on insurance. But I agree with you, the system is in bad shape. Have you seen my other video:?The Lipitor Paradox. Best, Tom Ballard, ND
Sigh - this "doctor" is obviously locked into a type of medicine that is ONLY practiced in the USA - insurance medicine; the medicine that is practice in such a way as to make sure that the insurance company will pay for what you do without any problems.
Been there, done that. This video really shows us that we need to take into account whom our doctor is listening to. There needs to be doctors who combine the homeopathic, natural, and vitamins with as few prescriptions as possible, who are open to seeing the science in the homeopathic remedies from plants as being good for our bodies and little to no side effects.
There is truth in jest! Good job. My entire family is far healthier (no colds, no sinusitis, more energy) since we upped our Vit D3 intake 1.4 years ago. We used to get sick a lot!
Great video, Dr. Ballard. Reminds me to always trust medical doctors, big pharma and the 'science' they promote. They always look after in my best interest and are not influenced by profit motives.
most doctors don't want to heal you. Big business - sickness - Take your Vit d3.

supplements are artificial and incomplete. In nature, no vitamin is seperate nor does it work alone.

Who knew? Vitamin D cures cancer, depression, aids, malaria, AND prevents autism!!!!!!
Wow. With Dr. Mercola and Tom Ballard around we can trust data-based science to go the way of Michele Bachmann.
