The Rebuild series isn't finished yet, there's one or two films to go, and the next won't appear until the Fall of 2012 (and even that might be tentative).

The original series however is... up to this point somewhat darker. With it and End of Evangelion, you'll get the complete story (a resolved plot), but feelings of unresolved issues may be just as bad.

Still, if you're in for the long haul, I'd say the original series, Rebuild has winks and nods at the original fans you won't otherwise get.

Unless you are a Japanese resident, or are lucky enough to catch a special screening outside of the country, you will not get to see a non-theater-taped version of each until about 6 months after when the DVDs are released. Meaning it will be at least 2014 before we can wrap-up the rebuild completely. "Great...". at least it will be worth the wait.

Mari Illustrious, the new "British" pilot. She sortied in Unit-05, Unit-02, and may end up piloting another unit the future, no telling.

Kawrou has his own Eva, Mark-06, which looks just a bit like EVA-01, but with a different color scheme.

EVA-07 and EVA-08 have yet to appear, but we know they're coming.

As to the White MP Eva series, as far as we can tell, they're not in this film. SEELE's Eva is Mark-06, and maybe Eva-08 this time around.

Eh... not really, I've seen the originals scripts for the series. Hideaki Anno is grasping some ideas from them, but Rebuild is not Eva as he wanted it in 1995, it's Eva re-done to make it more accessible to the present-day audience.

To understand the mind set behind Rebuild, I'd suggest reading the Complete Records Collection, a series of interviews with the staff, which you can (partially) find here:

The End of Evangelion was the "proper" ending with an actual budget and time to spare. He was satisfied with that.

As to making a series, that would require meeting an on-going time table, which as the films have shown, he wasn't quite ready to do.

In truth, Rebuild is helping him to build capital for his new studio (Khara), so that they can hopefully do other things in the future.

This version is nice...except that the opening four part is so badly misrepresented. The choral "aahs" in the background has such a strong residual tone buzz to Hayashibara's voice that it's haunting...to redo it with a pantomime of the words, and furthermore alter the bass at the end with an echo turns it into a "Glee" moment. I love Evangelion. It's so perfect, and this song does this series justice. Its theme is such characteristic movement of the entire anime genre, particularly that sub-branch which Evangelion falls in. It is a shame that GAINAX and Anno ended up running into so many problems with Evangelion, but hey; it's those problems that gave us the Evangelion we love, right?
