@jancello I listen to all 3 of them and their music is a completely different style to EA's, so I don't know how you could compare any of their music, I'm sure they would say the same.

i think emilie autumn wins the string battle... im in a orchestra and cello only plays the hormony rythm ... and violin plays both harmony rythm and melody so a violinist has more work to do ..therefor emilie is alot more challanged when she plays because she playing two different rythms at one time... and cello onlt has to play one rythm ..

Listen carefully to the song. EA has to feed her violin through half a million filters to get a decent tone, and all the underlying parts are done by synthesizers. Apocalyptica has an almost completely pure cello as a lead instrument, and almost all the supporting tracks except the drum parts are also cello. Ergo Apocalyptica are better at playing cello than EA is at playing violin.

I agree with scath7. who picked the Apoc song? I suppose they tried to find recital footage from Suzuki book one but were unsucessful. Their are far more impressive songs from Apoc, both technically and melodically!
I don't listen to Apocalyptica but I'm almost certain they have songs that are more insane than Toreador II. With that song they didn't stand a chance against Emilie. But I still liked the idea and video. :)
I think Toreador II was actually a bad choice for Apocalyptica when comparing them to Emilie Autumn.... I think Hall of the Mountain King would have shown their true colors (both very very very great artists ^^)
You can't compare as Unlaced is electric violin and harpsichord vs. standard cellos. If Apocalyptica used electric cellos then we may be able to compare them but it's too different though they both kick ass.

okay, the soloist is usually better one-on-one than the group. just look at cliffs of dover. Emilie needs an electric violin to sound good, and shes not really all that good live. Apocalyptica can recreate exactly what you hear from the album on-stage. if you want to hear apocalyptica on a violin, look for the song called "Resurrection". i think thats better tat emilie

Though I may have posted a comment earlier... I'm proud to be finnish for people even to dare and compare these artists. I love both but still, what I said earlier... Emilie could peforme something a whole orchestra could together... In Apocalyptica there are 3 players and the still aren't that good.
There's no way to compare these two, they're both magnificent and...well there's a difference between a violin and 3 cellos....as interesting as it might be. I'd rather see her tour with them...oh god that'd be one hell of a show!
why not? Both have common things, both are classically high-trained musicians, studied in great academys. Play string instruments, they've created new genres! (Victorianindustrial, Cello Metal)...
@Kiaagh cello metal is not a genre, metal is the genre, and instrumentation doesnt change the genre. yet it was inovative. yet, even tough i love metal to shit i will have to say that emilie autumn is just more skilled, and she has just this kinda neoclassical metal touch that i like.
I'd rather be butt ugly with a unique noise, at least. Pretty faces don't get you very far. And there's some people who would define metal = noise, you know.
Fortunately I'm not that ignorant....I like both Emilie Autumn AND Apocalyptica. Their defining sounds are not very similar though, yes .... sort of like comparing apples to oranges.

okay, the soloist is usually better one-on-one than the group. just look at cliffs of dover. Emilie needs an electric violin to sound good, and shes not really all that good live. Apocalyptica can recreate exactly what you hear from the album on-stage. if you want to hear apocalyptica on a violin, look for the song called "Resurrection". i think thats better tat emilie

Though I may have posted a comment earlier... I'm proud to be finnish for people even to dare and compare these artists. I love both but still, what I said earlier... Emilie could peforme something a whole orchestra could together... In Apocalyptica there are 3 players and the still aren't that good.

There's no way to compare these two, they're both magnificent and...well there's a difference between a violin and 3 cellos....as interesting as it might be. I'd rather see her tour with them...oh god that'd be one hell of a show!

why not? Both have common things, both are classically high-trained musicians, studied in great academys. Play string instruments, they've created new genres! (Victorianindustrial, Cello Metal)...

@Kiaagh cello metal is not a genre, metal is the genre, and instrumentation doesnt change the genre. yet it was inovative. yet, even tough i love metal to shit i will have to say that emilie autumn is just more skilled, and she has just this kinda neoclassical metal touch that i like.
But, i still love apocalyptica.

I'd rather be butt ugly with a unique noise, at least. Pretty faces don't get you very far. And there's some people who would define metal = noise, you know.
Fortunately I'm not that ignorant....I like both Emilie Autumn AND Apocalyptica. Their defining sounds are not very similar though, yes .... sort of like comparing apples to oranges.
