My 14yr old dtr is into many of the CBGB's bands that I liked when all of the Punk music was happening...Lester Bang's, The Dolls, Ramones, Television, Talking Heads, Dictators, Blondie...Great Days and of course the Sex Pistols...
I haer on the grapevine that the original;thats un-dead;members of "The Heartbreakers",thats Walter Lure and Billy Rath are planing to come back to Blighty ;where I'm sure they will be welcome (got this from Vive'La'Rock).Sign on for a great ride with Mr Rock, who has a magazine to die for ."The Thoughts Of Chairman Smifffy01" T.T.F.N
@WickedGravityVideo Not really man lol The MC5 and The Stooges way before The NYD. The Kinks really were the main roots of punk, metal, hard rock ect. Without Dave Davies sound and playing alot of the Punk bands we love would not exist
The first time I saw them was in 73 or so. They played at an outdoor concert in Ohio, Mott the Hoople and Rainbow Canyon were the head liners. The Dolls stole the show! the second time I saw them was about a year later at the Allen theater in Cleveland.
Got turned on to punk n alternative back in 88 via WDRE in NY. these dudes DEAD KENNEDY'S, RAMONES, CIRCLE JERKS, BAD RELIGION, DEAD MILK MEN, THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS & countless others changed me for life...The freedom of expression is so raw and I don't give a F@#k i definitely regretfully missed that scene.
Sitting in a cozy bong circle in 1972 this was playing for a group of college n high school people. Someone asked, "What kind of music is this?" "Oh yeah I heard of them - I think I saw them on the Midnight Special at a party one night. Well....I like it. They Rock."
'It Rocks.' 'They Rock.' was a common term throughout the 1970's.
Groundbreaking. Revolutionary music/image. So tough to believe they were from Staten Island and not Bay Ridge. In 1973, the NY Dolls set the pace for the angst to come. Took sheer guts on the NY Dolls's part, and we remember the trails.
some people were put off by their transvestite shtik, but this was a fine band. on this song, johnny thunder's guitat playing attains a power, splendor and majesty rarely heard anywhere else. johanson actually sounded more cyniical than jagger. i sang this song at karaoke, just like johanson, and a bunch of eagles fans ran away. they were terrified!
@54markl -----great comments. I agree: Johnny's guitar adds more simple raw aggression in 3 minutes than a putz like Ron Wood could add in a lifetime. Good riddance - eagles's fans gone. Thunders rules eternal.
@dchs11 ------Hi Dchs11, you pretty much nailed it perfectly. MT was a prodigy dating back to his work with John Mayall. He continues to be a blues purist and guitarist that is universally admired, but seemingly impossible to copy. BJ, before his deterioration, added versatility and inventiveness essential to the early Stones. Johnny, I'm told, could be absolutely mesmerizing. 54markl, please tell us more about your encounter with JT. Thank you.
@prettythings3 He was reaaliy nice. He took a request from me for Cinnamon Girl and played it note perfect, and sang just like Neil Young! He was really alarming after the gig, he was dashing around asking people for heroin! His skin was pale green, he looked like he was about to die! He did die, a few days later!
@HeadlandRoad Aerosmith? Steve Tyler doesn't sound much like Mick Jagger let alone the rest of the band. but i do agree: the Dolls are waaay better than Aerosmith

I saw Johnny perform live shortly before he died. He was really nice, I requested "Cinnamon Girl", and he played it. He sounded just like Neil Young.
