  • Long live the damned

  • Feeling special because this is my name..:)

  • Warning label: Do not apply more than 3 gallons of hair gel in force 3 gale. Seriously, a brilliant performance. Saw the concert live, it was amazing. The Damned were brilliant (the others were good too, especially the Quo, but this is the band that truly took Liverpool by storm).

  • the best sitting for this would have been Whitbty Abbey

  • Just breathtaking. Still. Stood the test of time this one! Thanks for this ; )

  • Brilliant version of a fabulous original.Just love 'em both - what I call"music"!..maybe I'm old-fashioned?Thanks for sharing!

  • This is the 1st time I have seen this. Cool! I shared a few beers with them in the original Newcastle Workers Club (before the 89 Earthquake).

  • I saw the original broadcast of this.

Who knows where the time goes?

  • That is my name. Teehee.

  • DAVE VANIAN HAVE A LOT OF STYLE

  • Awesome!

  • Brings back the memories, I spent 4 nights watching the whole thing from back stage

  • Well...long time ago...but...awesome!! Great!

  • Mark Nicholas looks better without the skunk stripe though. He never had hair like that when he played for Hampshire!

  • dat s niret mooi klassevijand

  • dodo dodododo! Yeah!

  • brilliant awesomeee

  • This is quite odd. To see what looks like Scabies with long hair on drums, yet no Captain.....

But Dave deserves his orchestra, long overdue.

I had to stop watching at about 2:04 though.

  • I was there. This brings back memories. Holly Johnson slipping on his back side... Good times.

  • Please join `Rerelease `Eloise` by The Damned. PLEASE!` on Facebook.

  • Vanian at his best here. The Brits always had the look, the style and the talent. What do we have in America today......Green Day? What shit.

  • @iuliusCamillus Don't Green Day have a broadway musical out now too? How 'punk' of them to do that!

  • @Angusismyhero

It was probably written by Neil Simon and scored by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Can you imagine all those Manhattan dowagers in attendance ;^)

  • @iuliusCamillus It'd be a nightmare to be sitting in that audience as a lover of real punk D:

  • @Angusismyhero

We could always spit on them ;^)

  • @iuliusCamillus Great idea!

  • Does anyone know if there's a CD- / DVD-Version of this epic Concert available?

  • you had to be there on the night

  • Saw them for my 18th last night, well chuffed when they played this! Obviously not in quite as epic proportions but bloody hell, I had a good time. I even got to meet and chat with Vanian afterwards too. Love him! <3

  • Vanian, thats all I gotta say! good stuff

  • I so loved this song and thought the performance at the docks was breath taking!! Thank u for bringing back memories of a time when music was actually worth listening to!

  • I was named after this song. LOL.

  • @EloiseKatexox So was my eldest daughter

  • Those live vocals are phenomenal.

  • there is something very sexy about the singer lol

  • IT,S SO GOOD...THANK

  • i also called my daughter eloise after this...she is 11 today

  • Happy 11th Birthday to my beautiful little girl ELOISE ... named in honour of this fab song xxx

  • This was the bollox, what a performer, none of this lip sync. shit of today

  • FUCKIN' HELL! I need to see them live!

  • My fave band ever.............i was lucky enough to meet them , bryn merrick <3 awesome band xx

  • Fantastic. I still have this on video from when it was first broadcast too, much easier to watch on here, thanks. Dave Vanian at his most gorgeous :)

  • @andiej1971 i remember it well too, had it too on video somewhere, i remember eagerly waiting for them to appear at the docks, such memories....:D

  • epic song

  • Powerful song, powerful performance! Great!

  • the only version to come close to the Barry Ryan Original ..

  • @ "Missedwhichpoo"

The only thing lame round here is your comment, you should get some ear treatment. But get lost first.

  • Lol..I've listened to Barry's version and while I'm sure he appealed to the girls in his day, his version was far too meek and whiney for my liking. Dave takes this song and soars with it. What's more he can still belt it out today, long after Barry's voice gave out.

  • is it just me or do you think Dave should grow his hair again? i prefer him with long hair

  • Finally got to see The Damned last nite after waiting nearly 25 years! Wow! fell in love all over again. AWESOME SHOW!

  • This version is much better than the studio version! BRAVO! 5*

  • shivers down spine

  • Still makes my knees go weak, ever since I went backstage and had an impromptu drum lesson with Rat Scabies at Rock City, Nottinngham. Bloody fantastic :) x

  • I LOVE THE DAMNED!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!

  • Sure beats the shit we have to listen to today!!! Wouldnt get this on xfactor or american idol

  • great song with orchester ....great idea !!!! dave has always style and good voice !!! love the damned !!!

  • i was at this concert

  • Breeding the next genaration of goths now, my kids just love the damned.

  • @redheadteamnut i support that you support your children's good and classy taste of music...wish my parents would have

  • @redheadteamnut Im trying but my step daughter likes emo stuff.

  • @redheadteamnut that's great!! nowadays the "called goths" dont even know this music ...

  • Fantastic, brill their still going strong. Keep playing guys we love it.

  • Not many bands are this good live.

  • I just looooooove them Ö.ö !

  • Unbelievable.

  • sweet ;)

  • God I love this soooooo much - fell in love with this song the instant i heard it back in 86 - vowed if I had a girl she would be named Eloise - it took 3 boys and 13 years but i got her - MY DARLING ELOISE MARY-CHRISTINA TRACEY - this song is for you princess xxxx

  • Wow great story ! Like it !!!

  • that was fucking brilliant

  • Best Live performance I've seen in a while. Brilliant.

  • se le jue el gallo a dave venian

  • oh my god! I remember watching this on it's first broadcast about 25 years ago awesome!!!

  • Coming soon to Wolves Civic I believe ? I have my ticket already !

  • Nahhhh m8 dis is sum bangin shit man

  • Magnificent!

  • what is this all about ? playing at the docs, is it a gig or just a video ?

  • To commemorate the rejuvination of the Liverpool Docks and (what was hoped) the start of the revival of Liverpool, there was a huge rock concert on a floating platform. Each band had two songs max, I believe. Cameo, Status Quo, Frankie Goes to Hollywood and The Damned are the only bands I recall being there. I made an audio tape at the time, but it has since ceased to be. I remember hearing the studio version of Eloise not long after and thinking it flat and tinny in comparison.

  • Wow. I've like paralysed. This video is a real treasure!

  • why couldn't i have been around when all these brilliant bands were in there prime, when all this amazing was starting instead all of the frustratingly terrible music nowadays

  • One of my favourite songs...this is the real Goth music...not the crap that claims to be Goth these days.

  • this was my mums favourite band.

me and my brother are goign to the gig on friday - carling acadmey not the fact we want to see them, yeh they would be good live but, its to pay respect to our mum.

  • me too Bobbie

..hope you n your brother really enjoy the show Maggie.

Rich..danced so many times to these ! :*)>~

  • Originally sung by Barry Ryan.

  • My favorite song when I was 13 years old til I don´t know.. maybe now.

  • Fab, never gets old ( unlike me boo hoo!!)

  • October 1976 - me on my third day at Uni. weather shit ... so my friends said.. "theres a band on, the Damned, in our dining hall... so we went... Damian met me half way up the stairs before.. fully stage make up'd up. I was young ! he saw me and said "you all right mate !" after ... I couldnt hear for 3 days !! and they dont make bands like that anymore.. really they dont ! Punk ruined my university career and i wouldnt have missed it for anything !!

  • this song is named after me

  • I'm named after this song!

    Great song :)

  • what do they call you then????????????

  • eloise

  • oh, I thought your name was "Live at the Docs". I was gonna say that was a strange name. FAN-TAS-TIC Song, and what a performance.

  • I've saw them on stage tlast night!! FUC*ING GREAT!!

  • great,

but just not right without the captain

  • dave is the best. hope the band member that is sick at the moment gets better soon... and come and tour in australia (in my dreams right)..

  • it was dave vanian that was ill he had the flu

  • esta muy buena la cancion me gusto

  • Dave's cavernous, dark, vocals so under-rated. Dave and Rat still look the same today.

  • Fucking awesome, that's the first time I've seen that and I'm watching it for the 3rd time right now.(If that makes sense)

  • just think...our marc ..said they would go far!!! ..deborah xx

  • was there when they supported t rex

  • pinche mierda de vocalista la caga pero feo este cabron

  • grand filla da puta

  • mierda de vocalista

  • Christmas has come early - 6th Dec @ Edinburgh Liquid Rooms. thank you thank you thank you x

  • out of all the versions available of this song on youtube, this is undoubtedly the best!!!!!!!!!! Anyone know if this was from a full Damned show or was it one song at fest of some sort? Is a dvd available somewhere?

  • It was at a thing called Rock aound the Dock at the Albert dock In Liverpool. My cousin took me. They also performed Anything then lobbed all thier gear in the water !! Wonderful !

  • Rock Around The Dock featured a whole series of bands, most playing 2 songs, in part of a revival of Liverpool effort. Bands included The Damned, Status Quo, Cameo and Frankie Goes To Hollywood. I forget the rest and my audio tape of it got wiped.

  • What a great rendition sow them some years ago at the Barrows Glasgow but this is epic still atop rock band.

  • This is up there with the best of all rock anthems - what a brilliant rendition of a superb song. The Damned were brave to take this on .... but it as well worth any risks involved as it is superb.

  • Agreed.

  • Whoever dreamt of combining The Damned with an orchestra should get massive credits for this work of art. This superb song has been made even better by their addition .. and outdoors too. Had this have been performed at the Live Aid show in 1985 it would have stole the show. Makes you wonder what other Punky numbers could be performed backed by an orchestra!

  • This is great. Scabies is really on form here. He went on to become a brilliant drummer and it still puts me off seeing the Damned cause he's not behind the drum stool anymore (mind you Jon Moss did a good job on the 77 tour with the Dead Boys)

  • bloody marvelous

  • great live, sydney coogee bay hotel.

  • LOVE IT! Dave's Stage Presense is unique and unforgettable!

  • I've seen the Damned and the Phantom Chords collectively over 10 times. Eloise is also my grumpy perfect cat's namesake. But THIS is the most freakin beautiful thing I've EVER seen!

  • I didnt think that tune could get better then i seen this, its great.

  • totally awsome ye should see bohemian rhapsody leslie style thats wot ye call pish

  • Beautiful, wonderful, brilliant

  • Cant get any better than this. His voice is just wonderful.

  • My absolute favourite singer, band and song ... fantastic setting ... couldn't be better!!

  • Can't get better than that live.....

  • fuck the play back !

  • wow dave amazing voice !!!

  • What is this...I am intrigued (as a fan of The Damned)

  • Well not a very god fan if you've never heard this one????!!!!

  • Epic performance- reminds me of those gigs in Finsbury Park back in the mid eighties where my college m8 met an Italian girl in the crowd- they fell in love- got married and are still together- happy days...

  • great live

  • Thats not Dave! thats Sweeny Todd! ... Jk >.>

  • Damned good

  • exactly

  • Words cannot describe how great this is.

  • =) love

  • beautiful Dave! why all Davids are so beautiful - Sylvian, Bowie, Vanian.. oh! :')

  • Actually, very good point :D And and I do love this version. With this beautiful David. Indeed I do.

  • Abaut the Dave's that is. The point.

  • :D gutt gutt

  • god this is a find fantastic!

  • Wow this live version is very cool!!

  • best gig coogee bay hotel syd.85

  • wtf frankie ????? bet the damned fans really chuffed bout that 1 ?? lol

  • The concert was in Liverpool 1986 on a floating stage in the docks. (NOT docs!! lol)

  • Fantastic!!! i think frankie were on this line up aswell...

  • LOVE IT! Dave's Stage Presense is unique and unforgettable!

  • seeing the damned in leeds on december 11th can't wait.

they're like the perfect punk band for me... gothic sounding punk without being horror punk they rule

  • Where is the footage of the rest of this concert? Would have loved to be there although I saw them in Chicago '98 and recorded an AUD DAT. Anyone interested?

  • gran versio d'aquest classic de finals del 60'.olee els damned!!!!!

  • One of the ultimate songs of my youth! What a find!

  • Brings it back. Dave Vanian looked fantastic!

  • love that song !<3

  • hiya nnurse when was this performance?

  • used too drink with rat scabies top that

  • Hahahaha.

My moms going to see them....

    er...what?

    Cool song =]

  • Quality. They sure don't make em like the Damned any more.

  • My God. Wondefull. I just fell in love with this song again.

  • Yep. This version matches the point of the original material: It's APOCALYPTIC!

Thanks to Barry Ryan, but even if Barry Ryan HAD the orchestra, he'd still NOT have Dave's voice. Muahahahahaaaaargh.

    Hehe.

  • They always say the original song is the best, and if the original singer had the

orchestra and sound systems then, he may be in the running. Bt this is the best version.

    More like a rock Opera

  • The Damned were actually the first punk band to put out an album, they put their's out just weeks prior to The Sex Pistols. They were very pun in the 70s but have continually evolved throughout the past 3 decades...

  • Oh Thank you... I named my daughter after this song - can I get a copy?
