All of us are speaking about Jon´s out of key voice here, the fckin feddback etc etc....... But who are musicians knows that you could be a really pro band, and some shows will be better than others......... All we know the live version from the 9012 live...but this is must hones and accordt to the reallity, less overdubed. And of course, the mix is not equal.
I saw Asia a mont ago....In the first song they make a mistake and the song was off in the end...What the hell, will i hesitate on Howe, Palmer and his colleagues tallent just for this?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!............... They are MASTERS.....and they are humans too!!
Eu me orgulho de diser que estava la neste dia, o video é real e verdadeiro, adorei poder ver isso aqui, uma das melhores bandas do rock in rio de 85-)
Por isso abriu e fechou o festival de ROCK,.,,,,,
Kudos to the entire band for having the ba**ls & chutzpa to try doing this live. At least they tried and I will happily take 5 of the world's greatest musicians REALLY singing, even with the stuff being a bit off, than Justin Bieber or today's poseurs lip synching & doing autotune. These guys are tremendous talents & singers and this is just too tough to tackle out of the studio, but they still have my thumbs up for trying and doing so admirably!
The problem is in the mix, Anderson's voice is far to dominant and the others are not strong enough. That makes it difficult to judge the live performance.
Guys, this has 5 people singing together. The vocals on this songs are complicated like crazy. I am not surprised that it does not sound like the studio recording...
And btw, it still sounds nice. Obviously, it aint as good as the studio version but then that is what live music is like.
WOW...Aside from a brief clip, I've never heard/seen a live version of "Leave It" that didn't use the vocal backing track. Although the singing is rather limited when compared to the studio version...I am jubilant that this sounds as good as it does.
Finally, after 12 years of being a Yes fan...a real live version of my fav Yessong!
@TheProgNerd absolutely agree... for me it's also 1st time I actually hear this without the backing track (or it's there but very low) This means Tony and Alan singing too, great to hear!
My comment does not relate to the musical qualities of this video or the groups perceived vocal faults. No, my issue is one of much greater artistic merit and importance. I take GREAT and heated issue with the fact that Jon Anderson seems to think that Frankie wanted him to RELAX (in Rio no less). Hehehe, these guys must all look back and turn bright red thinking about their Flock-of-Seagulls haircuts, power-mullets, and parachute cloth pants. 80's, thy name is Embarrassment.
Eu fui de P. Alegre ao Rio nessa época só para ver o Yes.....não me decepcionei, o show foi ótimo e era a formação original do Yes menos Rick Wakeman.
The Trevor era of Yes was more top 40 directed than the Yes of past line ups. Yes was also experimenting with backing tracks during their performances at this time. Squire stated in an interview that they used a backing vocal track for Leave It. It is obvious that track was not used for this performance. Jon is off key a few spots, but there is some feedback heard during the song as well that tells me that they were dealing with some sound issues.
3:45 - this is absolutely the WORST singing I've ever heard from a band (let alone trying to cool by raiding Sheena Easton's closet). I hated the 80's and reminders like this help explain why.

@27svideos it's not that bad ya wanna hear bad listen to some of their performances w/ new vocalist benoit david, granted he's not up on par w/ Jon Anderson, but i think the band as a whole needs work & time to gel..some of their performances here on the tube sounded like a bad tribute band rendition..then you look and you see Squire,Howe & co.. and you you have your jaw to the floor.
So: You must love this line up with Trevor Rabin and Casey Young then. I'd love to see this tour again. It was amazing, and I can't find Trevor's Spanish Guitar solo from 90125!
It's quite amazing that this sounds as good as it does! From what I remember, Trevor and Chris overdubbed their voices several dozen times in the studio to create what ended up on the album!
Every time someone posts the studio version of "Leave It"(not a live version, or a remix version)...the original studio version, some jagoff "yanks" it... The "yanker" should be glad anyone even cares to hear any Yes tune at all...

Beatles were mega gay. I wanna hold your hand. taxman...list goes on and on. everything they did was queer. then you have their note selection. and outfits. and haircuts. and well that covers everything. Just another group who got lucky.
They were popular becuz their music was wimpy and catchy enough for moms to enjoy at the time. They weren't as cool or dangerous as the stones or other 60s bands.
I've heard much better versions of this song live. Though it's funny, it sounds like they bumped the live mix much higher than usual. When I saw them in Pittsburgh they sounded pretty good for this song. Obviously because it was mostly tape!
Look, that's your opinion, but if you talk about sales and influence and fans, not just personal taste, then the Beatles were the best band ever. They had millions and millions of fans, they're still making all sorts of money even with two of them dead and almost every band today is influenced by the Beatles in some way.
love the vhs tracking @ 2:38. lol Makes me feel like I'm back then (sort of), tying to watch a time shifted show, on an aoc 20 inch, monaural (of course), w/ a dial tuner!
They tried to do Leave It live on the first show of the 9012live tour (Millersville U. in Pennsylvania), but ran into problems with the choruses and subsequently utilized backing tapes of the harmonies (see 9012live video). Tony Kaye never sang in the chorus, Trevor Horn did though.
Here, it appears they are without the backing tapes and trying to do the song live. It didn't work, but they are sports for keeping a straight face in spite of the fiasco.
it would sound better if jon anderson's mic had malfunctioned during that song. or turned down some. doesn't the man practise between gigs like any responsible musician?
I think that YES should have taken a tip from Queen; they would simply walk off stage and play a recording of Bohemian Rhapsody's operatic 'section' and not even attempt to sing. This, in all honesty, is terrible. I think (starting at 5:00) this is the worst live performance I've ever heard.
I was gonna say that this is actually 2 songs, first the instrumental, "Cinema", then "Leave It", but I see you 2 already mentioned it, hehe. BTW, I think the sound and voice mix sound alot better in their 1985 video, "9012LIVE."
I love this song....... Chum chum chum chum chuchuchuchum chuuuum!

I saw Yes live in Berkeley,CA, I REALLY enjoyed the concert, AND ESPECIALLY THIS SONG!
Something was wrong wtih the mic and the background noise, because they DID NOT sound bad.
The concert was wonderful, Yes is great, and man, all that sweet smelling smoke was niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.
This video isn't representative of thier concerts, this video is trash.
I still love the song,though
