Torchlight: A Great Diablo Clone

I wouldn't call orchlight a Diablo clone. It's made by the co-founders of Blizzard (who left Blizzard to start Runic Games) and the composer of Diablo I and Diablo II (Matt Uemlen). I'd say Diablo 3 is the clone XD

@AnybodyKillMe This game was made by the very people that brought you Diablo 2. And what about Diablo 2 do you find so superior? Do you really find the ability to level a character to lvl 90+ in a single day is a good thing? In my opinion, Diablo 2 was refined by its community to a point that it doesn't even resemble a game anymore, merely a repetitive time vampire. Also, this is the first of a new IP, so it should be compared to the likes of Diablo 1, which these people also made, idiot.

@xChrisBoulterx I gave it a fair chance, i was unbiased and actually hoped that it would satisfy my craving for another Diablo type game but it didnt. The gameplay is ok, the graphics are far superior to D2 but there was just something about it i didnt like. It didnt feel like it was made by the same creators but more like a ripoff. I think the thing i disliked the most is that you cant play it online

the game is really not that hard if you have at least some gear and money to buy potions. since you do not have both very early in the game starting on hard was more annoying than enjoyable to me. so unless you like playing slow and extremely careful (i don't, shame on me), you may want to start on a lower difficulty and gather some stuff before advancing to higher levels.

This game is more like Fate then Diablo 1 or 2. If you really want a Diablo clone game, play Sacred and Sacred 2. Sacred is what happens when Neverwinter Nights and Diablo 2 get in bed together. The game is longer then Diablo 2 and is more complicated like Neverwinter Nights. As much as I like Diablo 2, I like Sacred much better, and this is coming from someone who has played DIablo 2 for years and wrote a TPPK program for Hardcore Bnet. So don't think for a moment I am bashing DIablo 2 :)

@TheSiIentOne Yeh ur correct in that sense. Dont forget This game was made by the two Co-Creators of Diablo 1 & 2 Erich Schaefer & Max Schaefer. As well as the music by Matt Uelmen (Who done Diablo 1 & 2 Music - And wont be doing 3 Music).

Diablo 3 may not be as good as 2, Lots of key people left Blizzard :(

Tried playing it and noticed that controls are quite... "buggy" so to say.

And only difference between classes is Lv which you need to be for some skills.

@drunkenchan When you say "tried" you mean like 5 min? The controls aren't "buggy", define the word please. Also it's even more balanced with patch+you kill monsters in a mine and explore burried ruined cities. Do you think Diablo is the only hack and slash in history? It's not a rippoff, you are just too narrow minded, cause you use indiscriminately one grade of comparison to everything.

Before criticizing openly, I try to play for at least 5 full hours.

Buggy = opponent hit-boxes are too small. Monster cover almost 1/4 of screen and I have to click on his legs (which are smaller then my character's legs), and quests are more monotone than Freelancer.

When it comes to other clones, I've played lots of other H&S games (at least 10 different), and this one just screams: "I'm a cheap Diablo and WOW clone".

What Ixekun said. Wikipedia the Torchlight article and you see that a couple Blizzard North Vets were involved... AND Matt Uelmen, the composer of the venerated "Tristram" theme made music for the game.

So old school Blizz fans should definitely look into this game.

It is quite a nice time waster. Don't expect too much from a game only costing 15 quid.

Still pretty early in the game but I'm loving my duel pistol wielding alchemist.

Also the music is simply superb... well it is done by the dude who did the Diablo music. :D
