  • My favourite part is from 1:59 too the end

  • that music, forever in my mind.

  • Awesome Credits, but i hate the producers Jon Peters and Peter Guber for being so mean to Tim Burton while filming. They are totally assholes!

Oh, and Danny Elfman´s Music kicks ass! Brilliant!

  • lol Jack Nicolson takes top billing over Michael Keaton...of course cause he's the star and a damn good performance as The Joker.

  • Tim had it down , no when else could do it for batman. First and second movies the greatest after that the movies got cornier and cornier, Batman begins was alright but the timeline plot was all fucked up with algul and location and plot, the remake of the joker is gay, it was already done by the best jack nicholson in the best batman movie ever.

  • @Truexel

Dark Knight is not a remake, Nolan's series is a reboot of the series after Schumacher killed it.

  • @Truexel You realize begins and dark knight arent remakes right?

  • just classical...u cant beat the originals

  • sweethome high school amherst new york, just preformed this tonight(febuary 17 2011) and it was amazing like it sounded just like this i am very proud of them

  • @29honestly

Well done. Hope you enjoyed yourself. Would be great if bands like yours started doing renditions of Hans Zimmer's themes - you know Molossus, etc..

  • As a kid, I loved watching Batman & Robin, and it was my favorite of the original films... Just saying.

  • One of the alltime great openings, right next to Star Wars and The Good the Bad and the Ugly.

  • Musically speaking, Mask of the Phantasm is the best. Then this movie. The new ones' soundtracks are ok, but at times a little TOO modern to be enjoyable, especially The Dark Knight. If I want a dissonant wail I'll look up Giacinto Scelsi

  • @darknessesbane

Aside from a few exceptions, I'm constantly impressed by the class of the viewership on my comments sections.

  • Those who appreciate the comic know Burton's versions are superior amongst all. True story.

  • good opening to a movie

  • great movie and good opening

  • my personal order is:

    1- Batman 1989

2 - the others films are CRAP!!

  • My personal order is:

    1-Batman 89

    2-Batman returns

    3-The dark knight

    4-Batman begins

    5- and..thats all folks! u.u

  • my personal order

    1. The Dark Knight

    2. Batman Begins

    3. Batman Forever (yes this is the best out of the four I don't care what you say)

    4. Batman 89

    5. Batman Returns

    That's it.

  • @TheFuturecartoonist

Okay, fine - caring's not a prerequisite here. It's worth asking though - you didn't by any chance grow up with the original release of Batman Forever around the age of four, did you? Because then the film might have some kind of nostalgic charm embedded from your childhood.

  • @TheConciseStatement Well I use to have the original when i was little but I lost it. Then I have again on dvd along with the other three about a couple of years ago. The thing is I like the film because it brings in more to the story of Bruce Wayne's life where you get a little bit of that in Batman 89 but more in Batman Forever.

  • @TheFuturecartoonist I'm actually a big fan of Batman Forever too...

  • @TheFuturecartoonist Like your name! Fits me as well. Here's my list.

    1. Batman '89

    2. The Dark Knight

    3. Batman Forever

    4. Batman Returns

    5. Batman Begins

    6. Batman '66

    7. Batman & Gay Bird I MEAN Robin <------- SUCKY MOVIE

  • First movie I ever saw in a theater. This opening sequence is better than most orgasms that I have enjoyed. You can't fake/buy this kind of pure awesome

  • @Murrman84

    Uh. High praise indeed.

  • @Murrman84 your damn right, this intro does something to u,its amazing

  • wait a minute you acturally just said to the internet you like having orgasms

  • @xboxgamer9991

Shocking stuff. Next thing you know people will actually be having orgasms on the internet. Your name's Xbox Gamer, but you're not quite ready for this brave new world online, are you?

  • whats that supposed to mean

  • whats that mean fag

  • fuck off fag

  • shut up faggot

  • And I'd also like to ad, one of the best comic books ever written was The Dark Knight Returns. I remember reading that while listening to The Elfman Score. It fits perfectly and it's hard to think of Batman without it.

  • Opinion: Although the new Batman movies are better movies, The Danny Elfman Score was better. It's more epic, kind of like the John Williams Superman title.

  • @EmeraldJEM710

I think both scores are great, but the Elfman one is definitely more operatic. I saw a great trailer using TDK film with the Elfman score, and it was almost seamless.

  • Google search Jack Palance Mr. Hyde to see what I mean.

  • I wish Jack Palance played the Joker...

  • Who is the better Joker? Nicholson or Ledger? I say it's Mark Hamill.

  • @khatholic

"Played you like a violin then cut your strings."

  • My personal order u.u

    1-Batman '89

    2-TDK

    3-Batman Returns

    4-Batman Begins

    n.n

  • batman begins

    batman 89

    tdk

    batman forever

    batman returns

    batman n robin

  • @jameswanantony My list as well!! But the top 3 (or 4) are all really good!

  • My personal order

    1 - Batman Begins

    2 - Batman 89'

    3 - Batman Returns

    4 - TDK

    5 - Forever

6 - B&R (which by the way is possibly the worst film of all time)

  • @reniisgod

So crunch time reniisgod : 'Batman and Robin' or 'Birth of a Nation'?

  • @TheConciseStatement

Birth of a Nation at least had redeeming art/historical qualities to it.

  • @Gyvon

    ...I've got nothing.

  • @reniisgod My personal order

    1-Batman Begins

    2-The Dark Knight

    3-Batman 89

    4-Batman Forever

    5-Batman Returns

And I guess that I don't need to mention Batman and R**bin

  • Anyone know of some other title sequences where the camera is flying around through the logo/title like it is in this one? I know I've seen many, many others, but this is the only one I could think of offhand. I'm especially looking for something more high-tech/sci-fi looking than this. Any help? Could be movies or TV show titles or studio logos... anything that works basically like this.

  • @chasedbybees IMO only SUPERMAN 1978 and th SPIDER-MAN films have an opening sequence that could match this one in scale and scope.

  • @chasedbybees uhmm the terminator? The title was scrolling around the screen

  • This is the earliest moment in my life that would in turn, lead me to learn that it wasn't the movies I was in love with, it was rather the title sequences, and how memorable they were, when the right people created them.

Even just simple text can be made amazing, with the right timing to the music.

  • @BoxedEntertainment21

Any favourites you care to mention that I might not have seen?

  • when i was like 4 when i first saw this opening, i didn't get it. i was like "what the heck are we looking at?" until i saw it was the bat- logo, i was like" oh". now when ever at 1: 54 i get the biggest chill up my spine, maybe it's the fact that the theme is practically ending, or it's revealing one of the most iconic things i've ever seen.

  • @Lebeauize

I think I get it. Certain 'rising' music cues do make me feel a certain rush of blood through the skin, if I can be that literal (that's genuinely what it feels like). For instance, the Dark Knight theme that reaches its crescendo when Batman pulls up outside the warehouse in his Batpod, as he races to save Rachel (turns out to be Harvey). Or the magnificent Jason Bourne theme reaching its climax when his Moscow taxi enters the tunnel, and is doggedly pursued by Kirill's SUV.

  • @TheConciseStatement

i think that's it. when the symbol is seen and the music rises, great moment for me. this is one of few reasons why i love this movie, i know the new ones have better story lines, but this is childhood memories for me.

  • @Lebeauize

A lot of people forget that coming off the back of the sixties TV show, Burton's vision of Batman was actually considered very dark. There's some pretty nasty stuff in there - seeing Jack's gangster Joker trying to gas people to death, the Penguin attempting to commit infanticide (I absolutely love Batman Returns). But the memory of Burton's contribution to the franchise has been tarnished somewhat, by the resentment toward the family/action/camp emphasis of Joel Schumacher's entries.

  • I'm going to go on record here and state that this opening theme is the only element of the original Batman movies I prefer over the new films.

  • this Batman got it right. the new films overshoot the idea that batman could exist in reality. they misunderstand the meaning of this hero - he is a piece of our cultural psyche personified. superheroes, even Batman, aren't meant to exist in our reality.

so i guess i.e. the new batmans are really fucking goofy, in some ways even more so than Batman Forever and Batman & Robin

    Batman - 7.5

    Batman Returns - 5.5

    Batman Begins - 5.5

    Batman Forever - 5

    The Dark Knight - 5

    Batman & Robin -4

  • @kitchen867 (1/2)

Completely disagree with your dismissal of these real-world allusions. The comicbook superheroes and supervillains are the inheritors to the tradition of the warring gods and monsters from the classical Greek and Roman myths. And there's also something distinctly Shakespearean about them too, as with the rise and fall of Harvey Dent.

  • @kitchen867 (2/2)

The timelessness of such stories have often been down to the constant relevance of their political intrigue and anxieties of the time. In much the same way Superman represented the eagle of American righteousness in the face of communism in the Cold War era, The Dark Knight charts the exploits of the Bush administration coming into contact with a type of evil it doesn't really understand in its War on Terror campaign in the current age of terrorism.

  • @TheConciseStatement but usually Superman doesn't fly around Metropolis having to worry too much about police procedure and circumventing Chinese extradition laws right?

  • @kitchen867

Well no but I don't think we need to go through the whole Jesus allegory again. Not that I'm for a minute suggesting much of that happened in the real world either. I'm just saying these have always been stories that people have quote-unquote 'believed in'. Plus I like all the crime detail. I like that the film recognises the absurdity of trying a hundred criminals at once and then finds a way to ground it in reality. Look cut them some slack - they're still making up for "JOYGASM!".

  • I have to admit, as much as I LOATHED the ending of Batman Forever, the opening of it was pretty good too. But, this one takes the cake (I only wish the London Sinfonia sounded this damn good on the actual soundtrack!)

  • @MaxxUS08

Of course, the chasm between the sound as heard in the film and as heard on the soundtrack is seldom the orchestra's fault, but often that of the dodgy mixing and recording process.

A pet peeve of mine is also when the industry makes a point of releasing the soundtrack too early ,so it can merely serve as pre-cinema release promotional merchandise, and the either half the tracks from the film aren't included or vary considerably from the finalised version.

  • BATMAN .- 10

    BATMAN TDK- 8

    BATMAN RETURNS- 6

    BATMAN BEGINS - 4

    BATMAN FOREVER- 2

    BATMAN & ROBIN- 0

Tim Burton´s Batman was the best film of Batman

  • Cheers 21.

  • Swap Returns for TDK and that's my list to a T.

I loved Burton's Batmans. The absolutely epic opening score that has come to define the batman series, the excellent performances of Keaton, DeVito and Walken and of course the incredible portrayal of Catwoman by Michelle Pfeiffer.

Eckhart, Ledger, Oldman and Freeman were also fantastic in TDK.

  • I agree - Tim Burton's Batman is super better than the Dark Knight..

  • "never rub another man's rhubarb".

  • batman returns rules!

  • Superman is getting a rebot I hope is better than Superman Returns.

  • My favourite Batman movie.

  • 0:30 gives me goosebumps

  • The theme song for this is timeless. I don't think even the Nolan films have topped it.

  • I love the Tim Burton batman films. I grew up watching them and to me their still the best. The opening theme to this film is amazing.

  • yup

  • Kevin conroy and michael keaton

  • Why didn't Tim Burton gave the part of Batman to Johny Depp? He would have been perfect! But I don't know if they have started to work with each other yet... Does anyone know?

  • Johnny Depp was too young to play at the time.

  • Burton and Depp have done dozens of movies together. Edward Scissor hands, Sweeny Todd, and most notably his newest movie Alice in Wonderland.

  • Nvm i wasn't reading it properly sorry bout that.

  • In my opinion, Michael Keaton is the best Batman EVER!!!

  • So hang on. You rank them thusly :

    6. Batman and Robin

    5. Batman Forever

    4. Batman Returns

    3. Batman Begins

    2. The Dark Knight

    1. Batman

? Or if not, correct me.

  • I'd say thats pretty accurate, although i am not sure if Returns is better than begins or not, both as pretty good.

  • My ranking goes thusly :

    6. Batman and Robin (2/10)

    5. Batman Forever (6/10)

    4. Batman (7/10)

    3. Batman Returns (8/10)

    2. The Dark Knight (8/10)

    1. Batman Begins (9/10)

  • Batman the Dark Knight 9/10

    Batman Begins (9/10)

    Batman 8/10

    Batman Returns 7.5

    Batman Forever 5.5

    Batman and Robin - 2/10

  • Cool. I hope more people post their ranking of the two series.

  • That ranking sucks.

  • What would've been much more insightful is if you'd post your own.

  • 20YEARS JUNE 23 1989

  • Man, I remember watching this as a kid. Every time I listen it reminds me of the part when Batman is swooping down in his jet and the Joker says, " Come on you grusome son of a bitch, come to me"

  • haha i remember that and he pulls his gun out anyway i am going to farouite this as this tune is epic and i am a big batman fan

  • Yeah the sequence where The Joker is walking towards the Batpod with the huge machine gun, saying "Come on, I want you to do it it, I want you to do it, hit me, hit me!" and refuses to move out the way, forcing Batman to swerve past him, is a nice little homage to the 1989 film.

  • Besides Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard, Danny Elfman made a great stuff.

  • Fuck, I wish the drums on the OST were more prominent like they are here.

  • It is a constant gripe when the OST is rushed out merely as a promotional tool for the cinema release, instead of giving the composer their due and waiting longer before presenting the final intended mix.

An annoyance of mine is that one of my favourite tracks in the Bourne series, 'To the Roof' from Supremacy, has a really nice little guitar riff near the end, that seems to be missing on the CD.

  • Can someone download the whole movie, cause this theme is the best there is from Danny Elfman,5 stars for this Tim Burton's masterpiece, while Chris Nolan "Batman" sequals is also the best along with Tim Burton.

  • Download Spotify. If you don't know what it is, it's a relatively small program that works like an iTunes in the cloud. Really easy to search, and listening to everything is completely legal because it's only streaming music - though scarily seamlessly. A whole bunch of Elfman soundtracks are on there.

  • Dam, I just realised you're American. Spotify might not have opened in the US yet. Still worth checking though.

  • Burton's batmans were simply the best. His movies has fanastic, dark climate. Gotham looks just marvelous, fantastic Jack Nicholson, even batmobile looks great etc. Batman begins and the dark night are just worthless shit:/

  • I agree that Tim Burton's are great, but The new ones are good, too...

  • @1moe7 Tim burtons are good but the new ones are alot better.

  • love the movie jack nicholson is a very good joker!

  • @playteam005 At the time he ws but now I don't like him as Joker. He says that he is gonna do this and that to Batman but he does not even do it. Heath Ledger's joker is way better and so is the way he does things. He actually goes for the big people like the judge and Harvey Dent and attacks Batman in many big ways.

  • To Pyramid Head and Rode, for me the watermark remains as Batman Begins. I think that film is an astonishing achievement for the comic adaptation subgenre - a real gamechanger. I'd love to see Dark Knight nominated for best film too, but the omen of the Golden Globes isn't promising.

  • batman (1989) and The Dark Knight, best batman movies period

  • I loved batman (1989).But. Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are the best batman movies period

  • Burton's batman films were gothic and interesting. It mixed the elements of the old 40's batman comics with some dark elements. Nolan's batman films were classic and remarkable feats. It mixed the modern batman comics with realitc themes. The dark knight is probablity my all-time batman film. Batman (89') is second while Batman begins and returns are tied at third. Forever and Robin are sad attempts to gain money.

  • is this from the special edition dvd transfer? i have the older card dvd case one and it looks bad compared to this.

  • 2 Disc UK DVD mate.

  • it looks HD, l love it. cant wait for the blu ray of batman and batman returns on dec 29th!

  • Awesome, but it can never top the original.

    Nananananananananananananananana BATMAN!

  • Sorry, but I have to say that Nolan has set the benchmark with Begins and Dark Knight.

  • I haven't seen Batman Begins, but I have seen Dark Knight, and I have to agree with you! :)

  • your wrong, i put it simply, because its as simple as that!

  • Amazing. Best opening to a Batman movie, and the best theme song.
