In response:

The pathway is purposely placed to create powerful & educative theological metaphors. First, there is a 45 deg. shift between the entrance & cathedral axis (after reaching baptismal font). Second, in scripture when the one climbs a mountain, they encounter God. This path leads us to the cross-the main entrance of the cathedral. One then encounters the Church, the Body of Christ, & enters into the pascal mystery, reconfigured with a new identity in Christ.

Also, the health clinic is not too limited by space. The space is adequate for the services provided. If it were a full-sized clinic, I would agree with you, but it is mainly a diagnostic clinic that refers more serious needs to other free services. I understand your concern with the long awkward space on the lakeside of the plaza, but it has grown on me since the dedication. It would be interesting to see a large staircase, but that would imply no emergency, limo, or hearts access.

I understand about the theological and dramatic change in axis. I guess in the end I wonder if there could be an option in the middle, a space with a strong sense of direction that felt less like a driveway? In the end it was something the site users really liked. During special ceremonies, like the dedication, they said there was great power in seeing it full of bishops and priest approaching the entrance. It was just my initial opinion to not like it.
