  • press 4 and 6 fast, and you'll see that this guy can dance very well! :D

  • are all the chords the same on the tenor as the soprano and concert ukulele?

  • The tenor is accord in G C E A ?

  • Thank you.

  • Great explanation of the differences in the instruments. Thanks for posting

  • What song were you playing on the concert?

  • Which one do you prefer?

  • I love this video! I'm looking into purchasing an ukulele but I've been confused as to which size. Definitely going for the tenor :D

  • If I can barely position my fingers for chords on the soprano's tiny fretboard, would the concert make much difference?

  • @3234718 It's a slight difference, I am getting a concert for christmas, after using soprano for ever. I was checking out some concerts at the music store and it doesnt make too big of a difference.

  • @megusta535 I've had my Lanikai LU-21C for about a week now. It's pretty awesome.

  • I can't trust him. He's a pono addict.

  • hey i was wondering if u could do baritone tuneing?

  • Comment removed

  • How much would a baritone uke cost? (the one you showed)

  • Why do I prefer the soprano? the only thing I dont like ine it is that dont fit well with beirut songs

  • Top four...

  • ah! i kinda liked them all, the 1st 2 the most. i wanna take lesson but know nothing about music as far as A, B, C.. and reading any way this video was helpful with the sounds of the ukuleles, thanks!!

  • Several people have asked what model is the tenor you are playing.

    What is it?

  • the baritone uke sounds amazing! i have a concert and the baritone sounds great!

  • What addict???!!!

  • the song for the tenor part please

  • Very informative, thank you!

  • porno addict?

  • wat about de song u played for de tenor??

  • If you're a beginner, is it recommended to start with a concert size ukulele or do we really have to start with soprano??

    Thanks!

  • @mermadious for me is concert size

  • Is a concert ukelele or a tenor better ?

  • is that tenor made by stagg? just wondering

  • Dude, what's the point of buying an instrument that's basically a guitar without the top 2 strings, I mean, it makes no sense. It's better off to buy the smaller ones that a have a different tuning anyway....

  • Comment removed

  • @Saintive The sound. Ukuleles are brighter in pitch. Easier to transport. Cheaper (the newbie ones). Music is about being open and enjoying all the different avenues of our sense of sound. To berate one instrument in comparison to another is folly and close-minded.

  • would you recommend a soprano or a concert for a beginner? Im interested in buying a Kala uke- exotic mahagany

  • If you are a pure beginner I highly recommend a Soprano simply because if you are a beginner you shouldn't really be worried about pitch and Sopranos are usually much cheaper. Just because if personal experience, If you can get one for a cheaper price, I suggest a Lanikai. Their LU-21 Soprano is a solid entry level Soprano uke and its only ~$50. If your really hurting on cash, a LU-11 is just as fine.

  • @Pinoyako11705 Yeah at first I was set on getting a soprano, but I did more research and I'm leaning towards getting a concert size for the sole fact that you have more range, especially on the fretboard and theres a tad bit fuller sound as well. I'm actually interested in getting a Kala Concert Ukulele- Exotic Mahogany. Thanks for the advice !

  • which size would be best for a beginner wanting to play all types of music?

  • so is the basic difference just mainly the size?

  • i love ukuleles

  • Sopranos are my fave ;)

  • Hey Aarron...why are people not comfortable with the tenor size and settle with the concert size ukulele? Thanks.

  • co to kurwa jest !!!!!1

  • Wow. I've been looking to learn how to play the Uke thanks to an idol of mine [Amanda Palmer] and I think I just fell in love with the Concert ukelele. :o

  • Can a mahogany tenor ukulele play "Hey, Soul Sister" by Train?

  • @IHateThisCube101 Of course. You can play it on any size or wood.

  • @IHateThisCube101 go home.

  • Soprano - 1:08

    Concert - 2:03

    Tenor - 4:22

    Baritone - 6:21

  • @kio1zatchbell Thank you!

  • Aaron you are so positive man! Thank you, concert one for me. Greetings from Russia!

  • Can i ask what song you were playing with the baritone?

  • @teatimeeFtw wonderful tonight

  • I really, really, really want to buy a ukulele, but not sure whick kind to get. I was thinking starting out with a soprano/standard ukulele. I was just wondering which is a good one to start with. Is it better to get a soprano/standard, and work my way up, or does it really matter what kind I get. Can anyone help me with that?

  • @ginarocks75 Also, is it difficult learning how to play?

  • @ginarocks75 no

  • I'v just bought a soprano uke. Can't wait!. The shipping will be from one to two weeks, though.

  • awesome uke at 3.14 '

i really love the sound of it and the colour is just so amazing. :)

    what kinda ukulele is it?

  • @Donutscanfly Koolau

  • i want to buy a ukulele...for my frined for her birthday..n i can't decide which one to go for...Soprano, Tenor, Concert or Baritone...so plzz help me decide...

  • @sani4910074 Well, first watch the video...then call us (808)622-8000

  • I'm getting my Baritone uke tomorrow for my birthday and i'm SO SIKED! :D

  • @DreadfulAngel666 We're psyched for you!

  • @HawaiiMusicSupply so i wanna buy ukulele for the first time, and im liking soprano and tenor. which one would u recommend for the beginner? and is there any brand or model u recommend around 2-300 bucks?

  • I have a soprano ukulele and I just bought some concert ukulele strings. Would those work on the soprano?

  • What are the cords of Ukulele Baritone? There are something diferent?

  • @Fernandoyazbek We give a free Baritone Chord Chart at our Website - TheUkuleleReview

  • @beachedwhale321 Yes, all the notes are exactly the same.

  • @HawaiiMusicSupply but it sounds different either? great!

  • I play guitar, but I'm thinking about buying my first ukelele. Would you recommend a tenor, concert, or baritone?

  • @krista243 Most guitar players go for the Tenor or a good sounding concert. The baritone sounds like a small guitar so most guitarist want something different in sound.

  • is it possible to tune the baritone to E B Ab E or is the tension on the strings too huge that they will break?

  • just the vid I was looking for, thanks man! (and to the 'oohkuhlélé' haters, yookalaylie is only an anglicisation of the original word)

  • @MattTheOak are we the only dirty bastards that heard that? Lmao

  • @ApesHaveNoTails either way is probably true

  • Informative video, thanks!!

  • Hello,

I'm just turning a teenager in about a month. I am female. I have about medium size hands..I would say. I'm confused about what size of ukulele I should get. Concert or Tenor. Please help.

  • either one would be fine. Girls play guitar too, so it's not like the tenor is too big.

  • Hello, I'd like to know if you guys ship to brazil.

  • @achefefreitas we do, $60

  • @achefefreitas we do, $60

  • Does Pono compensate the saddle with an angled saddle slot or is it straight across?

  • @mvecellio1 The soprano or standard is the original. Nowadays it is pretty even, though most of the serious players go to the Tenor. Thanks

  • straight

  • which one is the most common??

  • has it got nylon strings o.O

  • @TheHammy118 yes

  • 3:33 I knew he could make his "y" sound! Now just stop saying "ookuhlele..."

  • hey, quick question. Do all the 2011 pono models get slotted headstocks or just pro models........

  • @theadamwingate I believe only certain Pro-Classic models will have the slot headstock. And none of the regular mahogant series. Thanks! Feel free to call us at (808)622-8000

  • I just recently picked up an old Martin style O from the 1940's for $3.00, but I really want a tenor and you just convinced me to start hunting one of those down as well, however I doubt if I will get this lucky again, so I may have to reach a little more in to the pockets. Thanks for sharing this, you covered the different ukulele's very well and you play nicely as well. Mark

  • Hey, quick question. What was that three chord progression you did when showing the tenor?

  • Hello pal...

One more question from me...I figured out that the tenor, soprano and concert ukes are all the same having a slight difference in sound and what is most important (i think) they have a difference in the size of the neck....

So which of the three: tenor, soprano or concert would be more suitable for someone who plays in gigs?

I hve a band and we re playing a mixed genre of rock, swing, bossa nova pop and greek folk. Which of these three would better accompany a guitar and a violin?

  • @Monofiner Sorry for the delay, Most pros or giggers play the tenor. Thanks! Always feel free to call us at (808)622-8000

  • @HawaiiMusicSupply Ok I see...And If I wanted an Uku to make the difference in the sound of the classical guitar which would you suggest? I want something to make a contrast in the hue of the guitars sound...Got me? :)

  • yeeees let me hear more of the supranos honey humming sound^^

  • Does anybody know what type of uke is used on Jack Johnson's "Breakdown?"

  • what brand is the tenor ukulele?

  • Which one do you reccomend to buy for singing? more like jack johnson music :P

  • 5:41 "You guys already know I'm like a porno addict"

Aren't we all mate, aren't we all...

  • @MattTheOak ha, he was even rubbing the thing back and forth while sayin' that

  • @MattTheOak as it is

  • @0168033322 by whom?

  • Aaron, How much would you say a standard baritone uke would cost? at this point im not to worried about the quality, Ive only been playing for about half a year, but i really want one now. it sounds so amazing! like just one for beginners.

  • I have another question about playing a baritone, with the DGBE tuning. If I am playing with another musician, lets say on the piano, and the song is in C, I couldn't use the same fingering as a soprano, right? Because the baritone is in a different tuning?

  • I have a soprano ukulele and I just ordered a baritone. Can I still tune the baritone like the soprano, GCEA? Will it sound okay? Or am I supposed to tune it DGBE because it is a larger instrument? If I can use either tuning, should I not tune the last string up an octive? Should I keep it like a guitar? Thanks for your help.

  • I love baritones the most. They're the best! I'm planning on getting one soon, they're amazing.

  • hmm i just bought a soprano ukulele its a dimavery uk-200.i kinda rushed in buying it cuz i want so much to learn how to play.now i'm not so sure if i made the right decision by buying a soprano ukulele.should i have got a concert one?

  • @LaryaChan soprano is just about right. you can always go to bigger sized uke once you get used to it or found what you really need.

  • I'm interested in buying an ukulele. I've never touched one before so i have no idea on what to buy. I know there are different sizes. I have kind of chubby fingers. Which kind would be best?

  • @chriszarza bigger or small hand, fat or thin finger, you can never go wrong with soprano size.

  • i play guitar but i wanna learn how to play ukulele what kind should i get. im debating about a soprano or tenor

  • @SirSinestro22 tenor if you want to tune it like a guitar but soprano if you want a cheap one while sounding like 'hawaiian'

  • thanks so much man

this is exactly what i was looking for and helped me choose mine :)

  • Hi guys, I love ALL your posts as they are incredibly helpful, I was thinking about getting a new tenor ukulele, and I was wondering what some of the "pros" and "cons" might be about an 8 string ukulele. I am not able to try it out only buy online so I cannot really test out the 8 string. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated!

  • I fell inlove with the sound of the baritone ukulele :$

  • daaamn.. i went to the website in the description box, and browsed through some of their ukuleles.. and wow, now i feel like an idiot for looking at guitarcenter for a ukulele, haha. these ukuleles look amazing, and of way better quality for their price than any at guitarcenter! i'm getting one for christmas for sure, and i'm definately gonna pick it from that website. i'm deciding between the tenor and the soprano, but i'll probably go with tenor. thanks!

  • is the tenor in the video a Lanikai S-T? with eletronics?

    thanks

  • Hey, Can you tune a Baritone to GCEA(low G) and still get the guitar sounding affect? Or could I put baritone strings on a tenor ukulele?

  • Does ukulele size matter if you're playing a song? I just recently bought a Basic Lanikai concert ukulele and it seems like most players use tenor ones. The first song that I want to play is Somewhere over the rainbow:D So does the size matter?

  • @hawaiimusicsupply hey, iv just bought a soprano, i noticed most videos on youtube people play with a tenor, can i play the same kind of music on the soprano? or are the chords completely different?

  • "you guys already know im a porno addict as it is"

  • @WhyYouJelly terrible

  • @pinoyhellahoy YOU CANNOT DENY

  • @WhyYouJelly I know! thats what I heard when he said it, and I was like LULZ. but still terrible

  • I want to start playing, but don't know which one to get! What do you recommend that isn't too pricey, but sounds good for playing modern tunes?

  • what would you reccomend for a starter?

and a quik question: what do you think is better? a soprano or concert?

  • can you put metal strings on the baritone

  • Very helpful! I'm looking for an ukulele and your website is the first I jumped to! Thankyou!

  • i am going to get a ukulele but i dont know how to play the guitar do you think that would be a problem and i want to teach myself which kind do you think i should get like i was thinking of getting a concert one

  • Very helpful! quick question- can you tune uke's with guitar tuners? and whats is the difference between tenor and concert; which one would be good for singing? thanks:)

  • @JJkathay Many guitar tuners have a chromatic setting and will tune an ukulele. Some only have the notes on the guitar. These don't really work well for uke. There is no C note. The best ones IMHO is the Oahu clip on tuner. Well worth $20! Tenor and concert.. size and sound. Which one works best for you...try em. And watch the video again! aloha

  • so helpful! thanks so much your an amazing musician btw

  • so helpful! thanks so much

  • Which kind is easy for fat fingers?

  • @numanuma20 Tenor or Baritone

  • @TheMichael408 maybe either?

  • @HawaiiMusicSupply ok thanks

  • @TheMichael408 ur asking us a question only u can answer yourself. which one do u think sound best? which of them is best to hold. just ask yourself some question about them and u will be able to pick. if ur not u might as well buy them both.

  • @fastjump94 ok then i will

  • Anyone know exactly what he was playing from 6:29-6:41? Absolutely loved it.

  • @season2subdue wonderful tonight by eric clapton

  • Hi, thanks for uploading- Im just starting up Ukelele as i play guitar to a reasonable standard. I kinds want the uke sound but with the fuller tone of the bigger ukes. which size is the best compromise for a guitar player ? thanks :)

  • Does pono have any good tenor long necks (if its possible) or baritone ukuleles around 80-100$???

  • What kind of ukulele is the guy in the video "Ukulele weeps by Jake Shimabukuro" playing?

  • still selling the tenor pono?

  • Hello (: I'm a 14 year-old girl and I'm gonna get my first Ukulele from my brother for my upcoming birthday. I'm inexperience so I'm wondering wether I should get a Soprano or a Concert, I'm leaning toward Soprano. And what brand or model should I get, the budget is around $80 and under. or somewhat close. Please, anyone reply :D

  • @peacelovenini29 Hey, i'm also a fourteen year old girl who loves a good ukelele. (: You can get an Ibanez UKS10 soprano at guitar center online for 49.99. Have fun with whatever ukelele you get!

  • I want that Baritone Ukulele D:::::::

  • Thank you very much. This video was incredibly informative. I am going to be taking up Ukulele.

I think I want a tenor. What type of wood would produce the best sound? Also, I live in Canada, on the East coast. Are there any considerations I should take when purchasing an ukulele based on my region?

  • @HughMacLennan There are a number of woods that have a good tone. Different woods just have different voices. I prefer a spruce or cedar top, but have heard great sounding mahogany and koa ukes as well. As far as your second question - the only thing to consider is your humidity level not being under 40 percent. If it is you simply get a humidifier for 4 dollars and keep it in your case. -And tenor is great! Aloha

  • Hey! You guys ever herad of a banjo ukulele?

  • @MrDrDuck

    A... banjolele? ;)

  • @HughMacLennan

Actually, yeah. I have one but it's broken.

  • how do you play that little riff in the begging?

  • should l get the Soprano ukulele l am only just starting and can l play i am your by jason marz on the Soprano

  • Hey guys, i was wondering if the soprano ukulele fingerings for chords were the same on a tenor ukulele. Thanks

  • @JWaff95 Yes, they are. Aloha~

  • @HawaiiMusicSupply check out the ukelele chord finder at three times double you dot ukelele dot nl

don't forget the tuning section. you have to specify your tuning before looking up the fingerings

  • Should I get a concert or a tenor?

  • @simonxalo a concert long neck?

  • what was the song u played on the tenor? it sounds sooo familiar

  • Hey, Loved the video. I am looking to purchase a Uke exactly like the Tenor you showed here in this video. I've been to the website but I am not sure which one is the same one in this video. It would be great if you could direct me to the correct one. Please and thank you. God bless!

  • @fresshfly ya sorry there is no pic on the website right now. It is the MHTS. Go to the Pono page, choose Pro Classic, then Mahogany, then scroll down. It is the spruce top, mahogany sides and back. We are redoing the site to be a little more friendly, but thanks for the interest. That model is one of the best sounding ukes I've heard. Aloha

  • I bought a cheap $35 Soprano about two weeks ago. I got it to see if it fit my music style and it turns out that I LOVE playing it. I came into playing the Uke with intermediate guitar experience. I would really like a Ukulele like the one I have now, but in a larger size, would you recommend i spend some extra cash and get a tenor? My fingers are a bit stubby and short, although I get by OK with the soprano, but it feels too small.

  • @bubrockit Ya, you should get a tenor. We got them starting at $65. Thanks and Aloha from Hawaii Music Supply 808-622-8000

  • @HawaiiMusicSupply Oh cool, also, should I get an electric? Whats the difference? I mean, I think I know the difference, but what are the main benefits?

  • @bubrockit You can plug into an amp or PA.

  • hey im looking for a bright resonateing concert or tenor, under 200. how much and what model are you playing at 4:10

  • @forumrider67 I would recommend the Kala KA-TEM. Tenor exotic mahogany. We sell it (as of 2010)for $120. It's a really good uke! Awesome price, so you can get the hard case, clip on tuner and shipping under $200. This is the way to go. Aloha from Hawaii Music Supply. Glad to hear you are having fun with the uke.

  • I love the sound of that Pono Tenor ukulele with a low G in this video. What is the name of that tenor ukulele in this video? I'm interested in getting a low G tenor ukulele from Hawaiian Music Supply...

  • @Gottacanon Pono MHST

  • any good baritone for a stating ukulelest. on't want a cheep one. Mid range.

  • @numanuma20 Yes, We have a good baritones starting at $70. Call 808 622 8000 or email check out our site on the Makala page. Aloha!

  • What song were you playing with the baritone uke?

  • @FAITHHOPELOV3 I believe that was Eric Claptons' Wonderful Tonight.
