@3234718 It's a slight difference, I am getting a concert for christmas, after using soprano for ever. I was checking out some concerts at the music store and it doesnt make too big of a difference.
ah! i kinda liked them all, the 1st 2 the most. i wanna take lesson but know nothing about music as far as A, B, C.. and reading any way this video was helpful with the sounds of the ukuleles, thanks!!
Dude, what's the point of buying an instrument that's basically a guitar without the top 2 strings, I mean, it makes no sense. It's better off to buy the smaller ones that a have a different tuning anyway....
@Saintive The sound. Ukuleles are brighter in pitch. Easier to transport. Cheaper (the newbie ones). Music is about being open and enjoying all the different avenues of our sense of sound. To berate one instrument in comparison to another is folly and close-minded.
If you are a pure beginner I highly recommend a Soprano simply because if you are a beginner you shouldn't really be worried about pitch and Sopranos are usually much cheaper. Just because if personal experience, If you can get one for a cheaper price, I suggest a Lanikai. Their LU-21 Soprano is a solid entry level Soprano uke and its only ~$50. If your really hurting on cash, a LU-11 is just as fine.
@Pinoyako11705 Yeah at first I was set on getting a soprano, but I did more research and I'm leaning towards getting a concert size for the sole fact that you have more range, especially on the fretboard and theres a tad bit fuller sound as well. I'm actually interested in getting a Kala Concert Ukulele- Exotic Mahogany. Thanks for the advice !
Wow. I've been looking to learn how to play the Uke thanks to an idol of mine [Amanda Palmer] and I think I just fell in love with the Concert ukelele. :o
I really, really, really want to buy a ukulele, but not sure whick kind to get. I was thinking starting out with a soprano/standard ukulele. I was just wondering which is a good one to start with. Is it better to get a soprano/standard, and work my way up, or does it really matter what kind I get. Can anyone help me with that?

@HawaiiMusicSupply so i wanna buy ukulele for the first time, and im liking soprano and tenor. which one would u recommend for the beginner? and is there any brand or model u recommend around 2-300 bucks?
@krista243 Most guitar players go for the Tenor or a good sounding concert. The baritone sounds like a small guitar so most guitarist want something different in sound.
I'm just turning a teenager in about a month. I am female. I have about medium size hands..I would say. I'm confused about what size of ukulele I should get. Concert or Tenor. Please help.
@theadamwingate I believe only certain Pro-Classic models will have the slot headstock. And none of the regular mahogant series. Thanks! Feel free to call us at (808)622-8000
I just recently picked up an old Martin style O from the 1940's for $3.00, but I really want a tenor and you just convinced me to start hunting one of those down as well, however I doubt if I will get this lucky again, so I may have to reach a little more in to the pockets. Thanks for sharing this, you covered the different ukulele's very well and you play nicely as well. Mark
One more question from me...I figured out that the tenor, soprano and concert ukes are all the same having a slight difference in sound and what is most important (i think) they have a difference in the size of the neck....
So which of the three: tenor, soprano or concert would be more suitable for someone who plays in gigs?
I hve a band and we re playing a mixed genre of rock, swing, bossa nova pop and greek folk. Which of these three would better accompany a guitar and a violin?
@HawaiiMusicSupply Ok I see...And If I wanted an Uku to make the difference in the sound of the classical guitar which would you suggest? I want something to make a contrast in the hue of the guitars sound...Got me? :)
Aaron, How much would you say a standard baritone uke would cost? at this point im not to worried about the quality, Ive only been playing for about half a year, but i really want one now. it sounds so amazing! like just one for beginners.
I have another question about playing a baritone, with the DGBE tuning. If I am playing with another musician, lets say on the piano, and the song is in C, I couldn't use the same fingering as a soprano, right? Because the baritone is in a different tuning?
I have a soprano ukulele and I just ordered a baritone. Can I still tune the baritone like the soprano, GCEA? Will it sound okay? Or am I supposed to tune it DGBE because it is a larger instrument? Very helpful! quick question- can you tune uke's with guitar tuners? and whats is the difference between tenor and concert; which one would be good for singing? thanks:)
@JJkathay Many guitar tuners have a chromatic setting and will tune an ukulele. Some only have the notes on the guitar. These don't really work well for uke. There is no C note. The best ones IMHO is the Oahu clip on tuner. Well worth $20! Tenor and concert.. size and sound. Which one works best for you...try em. And watch the video again! aloha
ok i am interestead in a ukulele i had played one at the beginer level but not in a long time,i plan to play mariachi music as well as the traditional island music, which ukulele should i get a concert or a tenor?
@TheMichael408 ur asking us a question only u can answer yourself. which one do u think sound best? which of them is best to hold. just ask yourself some question about them and u will be able to pick. if ur not u might as well buy them both.
Hi, thanks for uploading- Im just starting up Ukelele as i play guitar to a reasonable standard. I kinds want the uke sound but with the fuller tone of the bigger ukes. which size is the best compromise for a guitar player ? thanks :)
Hello (: I'm a 14 year-old girl and I'm gonna get my first Ukulele from my brother for my upcoming birthday. I'm inexperience so I'm wondering wether I should get a Soprano or a Concert, I'm leaning toward Soprano. And what brand or model should I get, the budget is around $80 and under. or somewhat close. Please, anyone reply :D
@peacelovenini29 Hey, i'm also a fourteen year old girl who loves a good ukelele. (: You can get an Ibanez UKS10 soprano at guitar center online for 49.99. Have fun with whatever ukelele you get!
Thank you very much. This video was incredibly informative. I am going to be taking up Ukulele.
I think I want a tenor. What type of wood would produce the best sound? Also, I live in Canada, on the East coast. Are there any considerations I should take when purchasing an ukulele based on my region?
@HughMacLennan There are a number of woods that have a good tone. Different woods just have different voices. I prefer a spruce or cedar top, but have heard great sounding mahogany and koa ukes as well. As far as your second question - the only thing to consider is your humidity level not being under 40 percent. If it is you simply get a humidifier for 4 dollars and keep it in your case. -And tenor is great! Aloha
Hey, Loved the video. I am looking to purchase a Uke exactly like the Tenor you showed here in this video. I've been to the website but I am not sure which one is the same one in this video. It would be great if you could direct me to the correct one. Please and thank you. God bless!
@fresshfly ya sorry there is no pic on the website right now. It is the MHTS. Go to the Pono page, choose Pro Classic, then Mahogany, then scroll down. It is the spruce top, mahogany sides and back. We are redoing the site to be a little more friendly, but thanks for the interest. That model is one of the best sounding ukes I've heard. Aloha
I bought a cheap $35 Soprano about two weeks ago. I got it to see if it fit my music style and it turns out that I LOVE playing it. I came into playing the Uke with intermediate guitar experience. I would really like a Ukulele like the one I have now, but in a larger size, would you recommend i spend some extra cash and get a tenor? My fingers are a bit stubby and short, although I get by OK with the soprano, but it feels too small.
@HawaiiMusicSupply Oh cool, also, should I get an electric? Whats the difference? I mean, I think I know the difference, but what are the main benefits?
@forumrider67 I would recommend the Kala KA-TEM. Tenor exotic mahogany. We sell it (as of 2010)for $120. It's a really good uke! Awesome price, so you can get the hard case, clip on tuner and shipping under $200. This is the way to go. Aloha from Hawaii Music Supply. Glad to hear you are having fun with the uke.
I love the sound of that Pono Tenor ukulele with a low G in this video. What is the name of that tenor ukulele in this video? I'm interested in getting a low G tenor ukulele from Hawaiian Music Supply...

Please, anyone reply :D
peacelovenini29 1 year ago
@peacelovenini29 Hey, i'm also a fourteen year old girl who loves a good ukelele. (: You can get an Ibanez UKS10 soprano at guitar center online for 49.99. Have fun with whatever ukelele you get!

I want that Baritone Ukulele D:::::::
AyeBrian 1 year ago
Thank you very much. This video was incredibly informative. I am going to be taking up Ukulele.
I think I want a tenor. What type of wood would produce the best sound? Also, I live in Canada, on the East coast. Are there any considerations I should take when purchasing an ukulele based on my region?
HughMacLennan 1 year ago

God bless!
fresshfly 1 year ago

My fingers are a bit stubby and short, although I get by OK with the soprano, but it feels too small.
bubrockit 1 year ago
@bubrockit Ya, you should get a tenor. We got them starting at $65. Thanks and Aloha from Hawaii Music Supply 808-622-8000

@HawaiiMusicSupply Oh cool, also, should I get an electric? Whats the difference? I mean, I think I know the difference, but what are the main benefits?
bubrockit 1 year ago
@bubrockit You can plug into an amp or PA.

hey im looking for a bright resonateing concert or tenor, under 200. how much and what model are you playing at 4:10
forumrider67 1 year ago
@forumrider67 I would recommend the Kala KA-TEM. Tenor exotic mahogany. We sell it (as of 2010)for $120. It's a really good uke! Awesome price, so you can get the hard case, clip on tuner and shipping under $200. This is the way to go. Aloha from Hawaii Music Supply. Glad to hear you are having fun with the uke.
