many of them run both the distances in early career but only the 100 in the late years for example Carl Lewis (9.86-1991,19.75-1983), so i was wrong on details but the general trend is this.
@CHEETAH69 as i said VCB run 21.74 with an unperfect distribution of energy the second half more o less 0.22 second faster than the first one. the classical theory want that a top sprinter have to run the second half 0.8-1 sec faster than the first , as Torrence Ottey and Perec were usual to do, Torrence in her best races always run the first 100 m in 11.40 or so, for that for me if VCB arrive in London at the same shape she was in Beijing she may run 21.5, because now she is much faster.

@YesYou123333 It's not a head start. It appears to be a head start because of the starting positions. They start them that way when the runners have to run curves. On a curve, lane one is the shortest and lane eight is the longest in distance because of the curve. So to make it fair, lane eight is out front. In the end, all runners ran the same distance. If you notice, when the runners run the 100m or shorter, their all at the same position because straight lanes are used.

BJ used some high dose/potency drugs close to comps .

I never did quite understand her use of steroids. Steroids really wouldn't make you faster. Speed isn't about bulk muscle or strength, it's about the rate at which your muscle fibers can expand and contrast. I fail to see how adding bulk muscle through steroid use would help with that. Perhaps I am missing something but I suspect it's like people thinking steroid use will somehow make you pitch faster, which it won't, at all.

For a slugger in baseball it makes absolute sense because bulk muscle would directly help. And for baseball players in general steroids can help you recover from injuries. It's just speed I question. I can see strength aiding the push off but I doubt it helps overall speed as much as people seem to think they do.

Marion reminds me so much of Bolt....both prodigies, they were both very tall, and they both dominated an olympic field of sprinters making it look too easy. track isn't what it used to be, or maybe I lost interest after the 96 Olympics. Flo Jo, Carl Lewis, Evelyn Ashford, Maurice Green, Gwen Torrance, Gail Devers held that era down for sure. There were other "supporters," but these were the stars. I ddn't want tobelive Dennis Mitchell used steroids, but I guess he did.

I ran track at an elite level. I know. The bottom-line is everybody involved needs to go to jail. Not just the athlete everybody. If you sit her down and ask her a straight question. Whats really disgusting is how everybody is so eager to HATE her but has no thought about HER COACH that started off putting the drugs in her drinks. When you're around so much competition the pressure gets to you so I'm sure many athletes thought about taking enhancements. Its disgusting because he's supposed to be her coach--her guidance during that stressful period and yet he encouraged it. I still love Marion Jones--had she had a proper coach, she wouldn't be where she is today.

Marion Jones is no more at fault than the next athlete, ditto Ben Johnson, Tim Montgomery, Justin Gatlin etc. Athletes in the past like Jarmila Kratochvilova tested positive and then came back and broke world records (1983, for example). Back then, athletes served their suspension and that was the end of it; these days they are persecuted!!

@Deanodiamond thats because in reality the gains made while taking assistance are not completely lost when you go clean..you carry an advantage that you wouldnt have achieved. "back then" alot of athletes used..and its the TYPE of drugs used as well as the dosage that yields results. over time the amount and the potency of the drugs have reduced to avoid detection and the designer drugs have to be quite mild to not be found. BJ used some high dose/potency drugs close to comps .

I never did quite understand her use of steroids. Steroids really wouldn't make you faster. Speed isn't about bulk muscle or strength, it's about the rate at which your muscle fibers can expand and contrast. I fail to see how adding bulk muscle through steroid use would help with that. Perhaps I am missing something but I suspect it's like people thinking steroid use will somehow make you pitch faster, which it won't, at all.

@aardvark9100, of course steroids work. I am just saying that I think people drastically overestimate their ability to make someone faster, which is why Marion Jones took them.
For a slugger in baseball it makes absolute sense because bulk muscle would directly help. And for baseball players in general steroids can help you recover from injuries. It's just speed I question. I can see strength aiding the push off but I doubt it helps overall speed as much as people seem to think they do.
