Actually his accuracy did increase by 50%. They didn't say he shoots 50%. If you look at this rookie year he shot 22% from 3 point land. This past season he shot 33% from 3 point land. That is a 50% increase over the last two years. 50% of 22% is 11% which means 22% + 11% = 33%. A 50% increase in accuracy.
