Also, did you ever consider that the original studio version that you're so stuck on was probably the only time he EVER played it like that? I'm sure two weeks earlier and two weeks after it was completely different. Also ironic that you choose Newport as an example of an acceptable Dylan performance, when he was practically booed off that stage after singing this exact same song, and it sounded nothing like this version or the studio version. Do you really expect the man to sing the song the s
How ironic that you would choose this song's page to complain about Dylan's ever-evolving nature. Have you ever even listened to the last verse?

He's not gonna compromise his art for your misguided opinion of how HIS music is supposed to sound, and that's part of what makes him such a vital performer.
Wow, this this is the exact version on the vinyl copy of "Hard Rain" I bought when I was teenager ! Thanks so much for putting this up. I remember watching this TV special with my parents; about 15 minutes in, they said "all these songs sound the same". HA!
Why the hell would anyone want to see Maggie's Farm performed in such a shitty, weak way? This is the best Bob Dylan can do? I love his writing, and his studio stuff, but this is horrible. Nonmelodic and annoying. The guy is a primadona, in my opinion. A great poet, but a primadona, nonetheless.
@urlosin1 Hi. Don't you ever want to hear him do his songs even a little bit like the studio version? I'm not saying be a mime, but I really don't dig the way he makes a big point of changing every song around in concert. I've seen him and it's a real disappointment. He's trying to make a point, obviously, but it comes off as arrogant. Hey, just my opinion. Not worth much!
@bonachella I just don't like the fact that Dillon feels compelled to change every single song around during his concerts. It's like going to see Johnny Cash and having him play Folsom Prison Blues with a distorted electric guitar on full volume. Artistic freedom? I get it. But Dylan shows a real lack of humility and a disrespect towards his fans with the shit he does in concert. Just my opinion. But his earlier live performances, like at the Newport Folk Festival? Oh, my God. Outstanding.
at 3:10 Ronno gives an ending on Dylan`s lick wich makes Dylan look up surprised and saying "what`s that?" (who gives the cue here in this band?) and later on Ronno is really getting into the solo and he`s doing it again!!!! (he raises the headstock of his guitar telling the band he`s through) What!! is he taking over the band here or what? and I think he`s saying that to Bobbie Neuwirth..I`m not sure how dylan felt about this...
I saw the Rolling Thunder Revue in Orlando. I think I was 17. I remember that it was at a place that had rodeos and drag racing. I was right up front when the band came on playing "The Battle of New Orleans." When the song ended the lights went out and a pinlight came on and Dylan walked into it with his guitar held high singing "Mr. Tambourine Man" The crowd went nuts and it got so crowded and tight up front that everyone sat down in the dirt. Luckily I was sitting with two sisters from Sweden.

Mick Ronson told Ian Hunter to join him on the "Rolling Thunder" tour. Anyone could play. Check out Dylan's "who is THAT" moment when he asks the bass player who's playing the slide, lead guitar?!?!? Sorry, it was the acoutic guitar player he asked.

OK, where's the original "HARD RAIN" from this concert in Fort Collins? It's the best verson ever! It's the opening song & it's raining which makes the song even more fitting.
My first ever Bob Dylan album was Hard Rain. Bought it in what ? '76??? Never left the record-player, upgraded into a CD and never left the CD player either. Best of the best Raw Life performance of Raw Bob Dylan... Go to bed with it and wake up with it...
I remember watching this in '76 and buying the LP in the fall of '76, I was 16 and a huge Ronson and Dylan fan...Hard to believe this was never released on DVD....Still sounds good. Thanks for posting...
...poor bastards had to play for beer back in the old days...look at Mick Ronson collect a couple of cold drafts before exiting the stage, right behind Dylan, at the end of this clip... truly Ronno never did get any respect!
@AlternativeIdiot25 A good example of that is when Bob recorded that fragment of man on the street then when recording the full song, he changed the way he sang it.
recorded this show when it was on cbs tv with my portable panasonic cassette recorder with the built in mic by holding it up to the TV speaker. Use to listen to it all the time back when I was 14 y/o. Love to see a proper dvd release

Yes, it was put on as a tv special in 1976! Unbelievable because Dylan was HOT back then. This was one of my very favorite Dylan albums at the time and listened to this a million times. But I missed it on tv (that was a few months before I became a Dylan fan, but a friend of mine saw it and said it was unreal) and had never seen the video. Thanks so much !
