You don't have to take the reward. You can if you want to as you get 35k or 20k xp Hitpoints/Strength/Defence/Att­ack judging on which one you've picked, however you have to TALK to the King I think in order to get the xp. In simple terms, you can beat the quest but not take the bonus reward (xp) if you do not wish to. =P
