Joe stands among the greatest. Give him an accoustic, give him a slide- whatever, he masters it. Few greats are as versatile. The only ones that come to mind are Rory Gallagher and SRV, whose tone and licks were unreal. The difference is that I like Joe's song choices better than Rory's. Half of SRVs catalogue is untouchable, but that includes guys like Clapton and Page who couldn't touch him. Watching JB, I think he only has to want to play like SRV to do so.
Every body seems to forget that Eric Clapton was the man who took "riffs that refferenced the verse" type playing and through it out the window. He opened the jar of bb,chuck, albert, freddie and T-bone blues mixed it with a little bit of Ottis rush and added a whole lot of Clapton and hey presto GOD ! Tell me any player who has nicer phrased blues. ?
Not even my favorite type of music, I grew up in the US in the 70's, but ya'll got that right. He's in total control and wringing sounds out of it. Love the CRAZY TIGHT bunch of guys. Experience has shown me how difficult and special that is. Love the CRISP licks too : )
As for the four nay sayers.Come to reason man is it the fact u got turned down to play at the Hall well JOE heres my solution.Keep playing that bad boy and each tune should be one last lik to end the show and one more an so an so on.And they'll tell two friends and so on.Is it me or is their some Thoroughgood in their.Joe u can keep going cause I will follow and beg for my last kiss from her to.That is how sweet zee Les Paul kisses me
If you like, love or enjoy Joe's music then listen. If you don't like it, then listen to something else. Why do you feel the need to attack the artist in your comparisons? The guy is a special performer and clearly loves and respects his profession. The greatest thing about youtube is there is sooo much to view and listen to. You can find literally ... nearly everything you want or need so go get it. Move on and try to be positive once in awhile.
Sorry Jason, but I grew up on Clapton, Peter Green, Mick Taylor, and the like, and I think JB outclasses them all. Love them all, but Joe kicks ass and takes names! Reminds me in so many ways of Stevie Ray Vaughn, but has his own stamp on all of his music. His new album with Beth Hart is fantastic. More retro blues, but absolutely pure pleasure to listen to.
Mate his clean goody two shoes matches his playing,Joe plays great guitar but he does not play great music,he plays a plutonic/blues scales in an interesting way,but who says plutonic/blues scales are interesting,Young Clapton and young Pete Green would blow him away even a young Harvey mandel and a young Mick Taylor,Clapton is very old now but he took blues to its future and this playing has been already done by better players in the past.He is pretentious and boring
@jasonjuliushaekcmedi You're funny. Oh, wait, you were serious. It strikes me as interesting that people such as yourself accuse JB of being pretentious right after they make a statement that takes the prize for being pretentious.
You make reference to "plutonic/blues scales" probably thinking no one will challenge you because they don't know enough music theory to know what you're talking about. All it does for me is make me wonder if YOU know what you're talking about.
@TheBarkinFrog Look fuckwit i meant petatonic, this guy looks like a man in the street not a rock star,no critically acclaimed albums like clapton eg Disraile gears, wheels of fire, layla, bluesbreakers, self titled Blind Faith, this guy is a nurd like you, fuckwit,Clapton was a pioneer learnt the hard way via records and others not sheet music or watching dvd's or youtube,Clapton and Green paved way for these pricks.
Now, why should JB look like a rock star? He looks like a blues man, and that's what he is, so it makes sense. No critically acclaimed albums? You need to do your research a little better. As for Clapton and Green "paving the way" who exactly do you think paved the way for them? Listen to the OLD blues men. While you're at it, look at their pictures.
And stop being so damned pretentious. It's boring.
@TheBarkinFrog Yes little man you summed it all up,those tinny blues players like Buddy Guy,Albert King,Mississipi John Hurt,John Lee Hooker and Leadbelly owe Clapton who introduced them to the whites and electrified it so much unsurpassed since a marshall and gibson has not improved b/c of its perfection,so you grease mate owns a lot to Clapton electrifying style, listen to have you heard sounds like a sax ,so fuck you again little man.
@TheBarkinFrog Yeah, ur right. It's basically five notes plus a few add ons. T Bone Walker wrote the vocabulary for the electric guitar as it easily lent itself to the techniques and which influenced Chuck Berry, Clapton etc. But who influenced him? It all began much earlier than that. Names such as Blind Lemon Jefferson, Robert Johnson and others crop up, but heck there must have been a lot of guys who paved the way for them or were comtemporaries of them but were unfortunately never recorded.
@TheBarkinFrog Why does he play something original instead of copying the past blues licks and riffs, why not like john mclaughlin or Scott henderson or Alan Hollsworth,we want originality not copyists

I love this concert and am a big fan of Joe. I gotta say though, comparing him to Stevie is like comparing Gibson and Fender. Joe is a master guitar player - a great technician. He is more versatile than Stevie, but Stevie played with way more passion and intensity - see some of his bootlegs from Germany. Stevie was every bit as fast but in his own style, which is nothing like Joe's.
The nice part is that we still get to see Joe continue to develop his talent. Rock on, Joe!!
Clapton "holds back" because he doesn't want people to realize what a sub par mess he is. He should stick with the Slow Hand thing cause Joe can show him up any day of the week.

@byoung58 I agree with you almost totally. But I have to disagree when mention Stevie. If you were talking about Stevie Ray Vaughan (SRV) that man still have the big..est balls to play a guitar. so connected with the instrument.More than skilled. Page is the other guy wich is hard to follow and defeat. when it comes to Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and most of others, Joe would kick their asshes with one lick.
i've only just recently discovered this guy, sloe gin was the first one i heard of his and what an introduction!thank god for youtube! he's got an incredible voice too but his guitar playing tone, touch and feel overshadows that fact! love that les paul with a bigsby!
