I think instead of just reading you should listen more, the S in portugues in a word final position is [ ʃ ] sh like English. Ir a compras [ irə'kum'prɐʃ ] say this sentence it will help you ''As pessoas da França são Francesas'' [ɐʃ pɛs'suɐʃ dɐ Frã'sa são Frã;se'zaʃ ]
