  • My dad sang this to me his entire life. Bless you for this posting, never heard the origional. It was one of the first they got when he was a little boy and brings him back to me.

  • my grandad used to always sing this to me when I was little :-)

  • @katienomnomnom So did mine. (My great grandfather, but we called him "Grandad." :-) I miss him.

  • @abysmalatrocious Yes, I am! Actually, I'm an Irish-American Girl, not woman, but I'm saying yes to the gist of it.

  • On-topic/off-topic: There was a song in My Life as a Dog, where Ingmar's uncle was playing a record that had a song that sounded a lot like K-K-K-Katy. Does anybody know what that song was?

  • My names Katie, and my Grandma calls me K-K-Katie.

  • @HogwartsIsReal By any chance, are you an Irish-American woman? I know that doesn't mean anything nowadays (Irish name), but I still think of a nice attractive Irish girl when I hear the name Katie!

  • My mom tought this song to my sisters and I when we were children . Her grand mom tought her mom and her mom tought her mom and my mom tought us . I tought my girls too. They say it scares them. I am now teaching my grandson. We only know the verse. I never knew this was a whole song. I hope that my family continues teaching this song forever. This is the only thing I have of my great grandma. I am 49yo. WOW this song went far.

    Thanks for this

  • my dad always sings this its SO ANNOYING!

  • Pleasing melody, isn't it? The poster art resembles a young soldier-and-dame couple I know.

  • My name is Katie and my grandpa use to sing this song to me every time I would visit as a child, every single time he would sit me on his knee and sing :)

  • My mom sang this song to me from the day I was born. I thought she had made it up just for me cause it had my name in it, then a few months ago I looked up the lyrics and found this =) It will always be my special song =) <3

  • I met someone with this name and for some reason I must have heard this song and HAD to find out where it was from. What a wonderful, fun, joyful, happy song. I still hear over and over the K K K Katie. And No one (even the OLDER people) could tell me where it came from. Thanks for putting this on.

  • Great song. Learned it from my grandfather (a WWI vet) back in the 60's. Now I sing it to my youngest every night since her name's Kaitie. Of course, we change the lyrics a bit, singing "when the m- m-m-moon shines over Waynesboro, I'll be waiting on the p-p-p-porch swing."

  • For my dear 75 year old mother - now with a bit of dementia......but she can still sing and remember this one well.

  • @greattheophany Heaven bless your Mom. My own Mom is 73 and doing well. Hope your mother (and everybody's family members) live as long and healthy as possible.

  • My mom-mom has sung this to me since i was a little baby, she just sang it to me today- it means so much to me!

  • Aaah brilliant!! Noel, Tks for putting me on to this.

  • I could never figure out why they sang this song to me!!!! lmao!!!! this is freakin great!!!!! :D

  • my class volenteers at an elderly day care and everyday one of the men would sing this song to us as we came in the room first thing in the morning. i havent seen him in about ayear now and everytime i hear this song i think of the fun we had with him

  • The generations who knew this song are fading away. There is only one doughboy from WWI still living, and he is well over 100. Check out my other old records. I play them on a wind-up phonograph, and usually post one per week. David N

  • Thank you for posting this. My grandmother often sung it, but my memory has faded of the song, and I was unable to recall the lyrics. I've never actually heard it on record before.

Thanks again. Ironically enough, my future sister-in-law's name is Katie. :)

  • Im 13 years old, but my nan who we called " PINK NAN " once took me to this victorian pub in this victorian place called BLISS HILL, wgere you could go round a town rebuolt like HUNREDS of years ago, and theres real fox butchers etc, and she got them to play me this song as my names katie, and it makes me cry because about 9 monthes ago she passed away from smoking. RIP pink nan, i love you LOADS :(

    xxxx

  • I'm sorry about your Nan. I am glad she introduced you to a great old song with your name. Keep the good memories of her. David N

  • one of the few memories i have of my dad when he was still at home was him singing this song to me and dancing with me .

  • It's a song that always lifts my spirits, even though it is about parting.

  • This was another one of those songs my mom used to sing me when I was a child. I did'nt believe her that it was a real song. I thought she made it up.

  • It's a classic. It was a favorite during both WWI and WWII. It was in songbooks provided to soldiers during WWII, and the vets from that era still request it from performers doing old songs. Thanks for writing!

  • Thank you for posting this as when I was younger I had to sing it in the school play because my name is Caity ! It was so funny

  • Humor was presented much differently 90 years ago. I am glad you enjoyed it.

  • Thank you for posting this. I grew up listening to my father singing this song, The Bugler's Song, etc... It brought back great memories.

  • You're Welcome! I am glad it reminds you of good times. The best old records are always worn out, and this one is almost beyond playing. Computers came along just in time to save these old treasures, and it is fun to share them with others. David N

  • Thanks for posting this.. when I was very young, the family used to sing this song on long car trips thru the mountains. We'd deliberately time the singing so that the stuttering lines happened as the car went thru a hairpin turn and we kept on stuttering until the car reached the straits.

  • Thanks for writing. I think that Katy ranks right up there with Casey Jones as an all time favorite for kids and adults. I have two copies of Katy; one is worn out beyond playing, and this one is not too good. Look at my Veterans' day post. That's our son performing K-K-K-Katy. David N
