  • Hi, I am considering wether to get the Cambridge Audio 840W power amps or Belcanto or Primare A33.2. What are you thoughts on the Power Amps, it wouls assist me greatly.

  • @SalamOxford The 840W is a great power amp and not so expensive. It can run almost any speaker and it has a very refined sound. It works better with the balanced outputs. You should select a good power cable in order to get the best results as well as the correct pre amplifier (the Cambridge Audio pre amplifier is the ideal match). I have listened once the Belcanto and I liked its sound ( a little clinical for my taste . The Primare is a killer ampli, but I think it´smore expensive than the 840W

  • @hbaboris Hi, buying a mains cable for it should not be a problem. But im worried whether it will be a good match with my Cyrus dacXP. Furthermore, a dealer has got back to me to sell a 10 year old Chord Elctronics spm400 or spm800 at £800 and 900 respectively. The dealer states thouh it is old and half price taking into account inflation it would cost 3500 in todays money. however, it is most importantly a good sounding and well built amp. so its Chord or Cmbridge.?

  • @SalamOxford I like Chord so much. I had the chance of listening exactly this set up. and I found it very neutral, with excellent dynamic and speed. It is not a "warm" or "romantic" sound ( no problem for me )...the question here is : are you going to have some kind of guarantee in the Chords ? We are talking about old equipments which in case of any repairing, would be not cheap. The most important: you should listen all them ( Cambridge, Chord, Primare, etc..) and then take a final decision

  • The tonearm looks different from mine. Is it RB1000?

  • @jungoo0212 Yes, it is...just the counterweight is from Michell

  • Great,. I have a Rega P5 (hear it on my YT channel) but this (even when heard over YT) just leaves it stranded! It is just amazing! I was just wondering though. Do rega recommend record clamps?

  • @MarkPMus

Thanks for your words. Concerning the clamps, I don´t think Rega recommends it..but Rega recommends listen to vinyls with the dust cover, do not use VTA, never clean the records...so, Rega is not right on all the times..rsrsrsrs

What I can say is that I felt a clear sound improvement when using the Clamp ( actually it is a Thorens weight, not a Clamp )

  • @hbaboris There is sound logic behind Rega's stance on VTA. Basically, they say, even with a VTA adjuster, it is very difficult to get it right - you are better adding 0.1g of tracking weight if counterweight end of arm is lower than cartridge end. And in most cases, looking after the record properly in the first place is better than cleaning, although I have a moderate opinion. I will clean records once every few years, especially second hand ones.

  • I agree that VTA is a controversial subject, many people pay more attention on VTA adjustment than on sound, adjusting it to each record played( crazy thing !!!!). , however, I recommend to use spacers in Rega players when not using Rega carts ( higher than 14mm )...better soundstage, much less surface noise...

  • @hbaboris Great turntable, nice system, sounds wonderful even through the camera microphone! Turntable magic is elusive due to so many factors, take away one, it'll sound inferior, ie: arm bearings, feedback isolation, cartridge alignment (incl VTA) the mat, cartridge loading... There are a few good cheap turntables out there. I have found that tonal purity corresponds to tight bass & inner band resolution. Even if a cartridge is off a few dB, the system will still exude a magical sound.

  • @TheFRiNgEguitars hmm that turntable sounds alot like my computer speakers. I mean what the hell else is it gonna sound like?

  • Beautiful turntable. Excellent choices.

  • Thanks for watching.......

  • Thanks for sharin', I'd consider a P9, laugh, any more music in the works?

  • Sorry..I don´t know exactly what you mean...??????????

  • Any different kind of music is all that I'm asking.

  • hehehe..ok...I am going to make a new one...

  • Well, you know, can't please everyone. I do have an interest in that model. Thanks

  • Laugh, sorry, you're probably not a salesman, I presume.

  • No..for sure I am not a salesman....

  • I was teasin' about you being a salesman, that just means I have no reason to ask of you. You're being generous.

Now then, the music isn't bad, I was just wanting to hear more bass, but even so, maybe it's your recording equipment that's the reason it's not coming through or it's not on this song title? I've been listening to Santana from their Santana record: Jingo, You Just Don't Care and Soul Sacrifice, nice bass in those, spoiled me, sorry.

Thanks again, you're being really generous.

  • I've found that it takes time going from one genre to another, sometimes a week or so to fully adjust, that's me though.

  • Thanks,,,,Actually, I have used only my simple digital camera...so, the sound is not that good. Also, It´s a 50´s record, very good one, good soundstage and imagine...but , for sure, without good bass ( in fact, this kind of music has not a lot of bass )...another friends asked me for a new video, with modern music..I am going to prepare it soon...

  • Sure enough! I'll be waiting around like the other folks.

  • Don´t worry...I was already wondering about doing a new video.....The P9 plays all kind of music very well...it has much more bass extension than other Rega´s players, with much more details..It really rocks !!!!!!

  • Beautiful record player but please throw away the platter weight. It's the total opposite design ethos to the P9.

  • Thank you. Actually, I have been using the platter weight for more than 2 years..I felt a clear sound improvement..better soundstage, bass extension and imagine

  • great turntable! and great music!!! i love vinils too, but im far away from your system, congratulations from argentina, pedro

  • Gracias amigo...vinyl is back again...and stronger than ever...Argentina is not so far away from Brazil..Un abrazo....

  • where can I find the record? I cannot find based on cover info. Thanks.

  • I bought this album a long time ago..I know it is not so easy to find...just to give you more details the name is: Ezz-Thetic! Lee Konitz with Miles Davis, Billy Bauer, Sal Mosca, Max Roach, Stan Levey and others..Label : Prestige Historical Series. I hope you can find it...

  • Thanks!! I found it in Berlin! I am having shipped to the US

  • Yes..the Michell counterweight gives you an improvement in the sound quality .I can say that you feel this difference more in the RB300 / RB700 series than on the RB1000 tonearm...but it is a good upgrade and it seems gorgeous.

My old Turntable was a Rega P7..and the P9 is in an another level..great sound improvement.

  • @hbaboris

where can I find the record. Cannot locate based on cover info. Thanks.

  • wow.that sounds fab.really nice system you have there.nice record.i'm just starting to get into jazz.the p9 sounds excellent.

  • Thank you for your comments...the P9 is a really incredible deck..it plays as much as other decks costing twice its price.
