  • @ 10:20 Foreshadowing I believe?

  • The ghost at the end was derailed

  • What words of Deltic's did Allen remenber?

  • When wil episode 18 be coming out It's what over a year now...

  • This is perhaps one of the best episodes in the series so far. I really enjoyed seeing the Character Competition winners being brought to life by you, and I was actually quite spooked by the ending. Well done with this episode, and I just know that the next episodes will be even better.

  • I surprised the LB&SCR E2 you have is of the first batch, without the extended side tanks. Then again, Awdry's model of Thomas didn't have the extended side tanks like the second batch (And the other versions of Thomas) did.

  • 6:52 those words say derek smells as seen in "day of the diesels toy review and compition" video

  • i gess wensley is joem

  • LOL UPLOADED ON MY BIRTHDAY XD!!

  • man the ending really spooked me out well done on this ^^

  • when it was showing alf... what is the music?

  • Yay, the theme song finished!

    Great Episode!

You have a knack for making me feel sad for steam locomotives.

    I'm worried for Allen!

  • I am a little confused about the ghost A4, is it a reference back to episode 10?

  • Why did Stephen leave?

  • Was the A4 ghost at 10:32 supposed to be the ghost of Gadwall?

  • This series, I feel, is truly iconic!

  • @accadaccasuperstar A lot better than Thomas & Friends, that's for sure.

  • This has to be the most powerful rail related series on YouTube (alongside Skarloey123's Darktimes of Sodor). Please don't end it!

  • whens episode 18 coming out? :)

  • Is that ghostly A4 Sir Ralph Wedgewood (Gadwall)

  • that engine has a moustache.........bestest engine EVAR!

  • Are you going to do another charachter competioton?

  • so an LNER tank engine with a GWR dome?

  • Of corse that was Gadwall's ghost.

  • I bet that was the Ghost Engine was Gadwall. :D

  • what make and model is that at 8:14?

  • @BristolSpotterHD - Lima, J50 tank engine. No longer made, look on ebay, or alternatively build the DJH kit (more expensive by far, but will produce a more accurate model). This is one class I am praying for Hornby or Bachmann to make, RTR.

  • What type of engine is Wensley?

  • What I can't believe:

That Wensley claimed to have been built for the LNER, only for his lie to be revealed by a large mogul engine. Why did he lie?

  • @Zaphodraptor Because he was proud of being BASED off an LNER designed locomotive, and he just couldn't resist using his looks to say where he came from. :P

  • This may seem a stupid question to ask you but why did you not have this as episode 18?

  • @penninefilms - two things - one, it leads directly on from 17 and continues the "ghost" story. Two, lack of hindsight or forethought...!

  • @simierski Thanks for explaining that to me.

  • i cant wait for the next episode

  • i hate to say it, but were you get the engine noises???

  • When the end comes can you make a tribute for major characters ,like Allen, Stephen and Sir Ralph and minor characters ,like George and Jerry. Showing where they are now , like sadly waiting to be withdrawal, there nameplates on walls or working happily on there new railway.

  • Bless me, it's a galloping sausage!

  • @tropicalfishswim what does that mean???

  • @PalomboDylan it's the nickname for Gresley's W1 4-6-4. If I'm not mistaken, that's the ghost.... though I may be wildly off

  • I Hope Allen, Scot, Stephen & Sir Ralph Survive the breakers tourch and make it into the preservation era.

Or that they run away together and find somwhere to live for the engines to be taken into preservation.

  • I just wanted to let you know, but using Model Magic, I'm currently creating another steam engine from an N-scale model of a Santa Fe Railroad switcher locomotive with a tender.

I lost the tender so I just made it a tank engine, which to tell you the truth was actually easier than even I could realize. The hard part is getting the supporting wheels: I'm still working on that. Would you like me to send you a picture when I'm finished?

  • I know I'm gonna sound like an idiot, but what is the theme? I hear it so much and wish I could find it online to listen to.

Oh yeah, I love your series Simon.

  • i LOVE the british railway series! i watch it all the time, PLEASE make a 18th episode!

i heard you are! please do!

  • @ComediTv37 - it's very much in production. I can't say when it'll be released, but it's definitely going to happen.

  • when on earth will episode 18 come out? I want to see what happens to Allen and Stephen and the others, and if that ghost at the end was sir Ralph, (which i think he is), i want to see if they survive and get preserved or not.

  • @tomatojamsam - never fear, there's many more stories to tell...

  • @simierski are you almost done with part 18 yet???????

  • @scotsman60163 might be its a good thing to think about

  • There is something simply wonderful about your storytelling, dearheart; something I can't quite put a finger on, but has me gripped to the last wisp of steam across the yard. Can't wait for the next one, keep it up, old chap <3

  • @LadyStarfleet - thank you kindly, a lovely message I came across today.

  • Oh also is Stephen going to be scrapped? I hope not cuz he's my favorite character

  • Just out of curiosity can you still find the Apple Green Holden B12s in Hornby?

  • @EmeryAndEmilyFan2344 you can find them in model shops that split them from sets. I got mine from Haworth model shop near Keighly

  • is that a4 at the end of this ment to be sir ralph

  • I kinda like how the series is getting darker, and a bit more sadder. Reminds of "Enterprising Engines"

  • this series keeps on getting sader. the early eps were really cheerful in a way but now we see that they had a good run and being put out of use. only thing is in the first few you narrated at the start. what now is the yard under different management?

also were did you get alf

  • this series keeps on getting sader. the early eps were really cheerful in a way but now we see that they had a good run and being put out of use. only thing is in the first few you narrated at the start. what now is the yard under different management?

  • It looked at me at the end.

  • @Dinosorable What did?

  • @PalomboDylan You know. Fowler's Ghost.

  • After seeing this episode when t first came one thing I don't understand why is it not episode 18 and why is it 17X?

  • Is Geoffrey really going for scrap?

  • seriously? they're putting advertisments on the BRWS now?

  • @trainlover658 - if you read my blog (copley hill) you'll understand why. As a member of the partner program, I've been able to choose between having ads and not, and this is part of an experiment to see if I can help pay for the costs of making the series by making the episodes on Youtube pay their way.

It's not going very well currently!

  • @simierski are you making much with it then?

  • @trainlover658 - as per adsense rules, can't give exact figures. Suffice to say mind - no! :)

    Proper job beckons...!

  • whats that music at 7:04

  • why do you think so many people like to watch the British Railway Series?

  • @leefamily432 as in the main factor, I meant

  • @leefamily432 - so many? Not sure it's a case of many. I think it's a case of people see something they enjoy, and go back to watch it. I've done some maths, and I have a small (but very loyal and very much appreciated) viewership. Tiny in comparison to other youtubers, but no less important to me.

  • @simierski

I like the BRWS because it's a more mature version of Thomas & Friends, and better than the current episodes. Keep up the good work!

Plus I love Allen and Stephen.

    Stephen's speeches are brilliant!

  • Very good work, it is a pleasure to see this onc again on YouTube, and I am glad to hear from you once again.

  • the hornby L1 just sneaked in at 1:36

  • Why is "scot" not green? He seems blue...

  • @cpgguitar321 - he is definitely green....

  • @simierski I know but in some shots he looks blue...

  • @cpgguitar321 - still green! ;)

  • Say, Simierski, how do you power your Gadwall's Ghost model? Is it just a normal RTR A4 model with the bodyshell painted white?

  • @TallboyDave - sort of. It's a bodyshell from an old Bachmann A4. There's another model which is a resin cast one, but I haven't used it in the series as yet.

  • @simierski

I see. I thought I should ask, because in this and Episode 17, it almost looked like the model had no wheels, aside from the front bogie.

  • how do you make your engines steam? pleeeeeeeeeeeease tell!!!!!!!!!

  • Your episode is a master piece. My brother Ryan loves it. He said you should make an episode for him. But make it a master piece like this one.

  • The ghost is the same class as Sir Ralph!

Maybe it's the *real* Sir Ralph?

  • @rjconnolly64 probably Gadwall :3

  • who is the A4 ghost? is it Gadwall?

  • Guess who arrived in the post today.

  • @jamiegoddard4 - did everything make it okay? :)

  • @simierski Certificate, check. Engine Check, Face Check. All accounted for. :)

  • @jamiegoddard4 - brilliant - good to hear. I hope you noticed my handiwork on the tender - not the best, I'll admit, but after they sent me a black B12 with a green tender...!!!

  • @simierski I did, i kinda liek it cos it blends with the coal effect on top.

  • @jamiegoddard4 - excellent - I might recommend however, to finish the model off, the careful application of tamiya weathering powders, followed by a light spray of gamesworkshops purity seal. Work from a photograph of a B12, see how grimy they got in their final days.

I hope Harry gives you a great amount of pleasure in the years to come, and thanks once again for such a brilliant competition entry.

  • @simierski Maybe soon, but for the moment im using ur blog to make a D16 out of my now redundant (and broken) blue B12. Wish me luck.

  • @jamiegoddard4 - Good luck - I used a bachmann motor and DCC chip to power mine. See if you can get a decent RTR chassis underneath it, it can and does help :)

  • Hey Simon, since you got up to the 1960s already with this series, I have a suggestion. Make a video where Scott (the Flying Scotsman) goes to America in 1969. That's historically accurate, and I wonder how he'd interact with the American trains during that time. Let's see what you can come up with. ;) Or better yet, I can help you on the script for that episode.

  • @KingofTomedy - wait and see. ;)

  • @KingofTomedy - I would advocate that as an idea for a very good idea for a spin-off from the series. The story is there, with a lot of high-drama and uncertainty throughout and it's got a happy ending to boot. That said though, it could prove expensive to modify the layout accordingly to create the real illusion of it being North America.

It's definately an idea worth exploring, even if it doesn't make it to production.

  • @SiForumsAndFansite - oi oi oi! Note there's an episode labeled "Flying Scotsman" in the SiF BRWS Thread...hint hint ;)

I have a storyline, a 4472 complete with bell and cowcatcher, and several other pieces including "3801" as well. It's just a question of getting around to making it in the future...! :)

It's not the country that's the problem, but the scaling of the models...!

  • @RJBandsma68 - actually, the year of this episode is 1959. Same year as it was withdrawn, not cut up, although I don't think it lasted very long in 1960.

  • @simierski is stephen going to be in the next episode

  • ahh at the end gandwalls ghost

  • Is Sir Ralph scrapped? Lol who was that guy at the end?

  • Could Stephen be going senile in his old age? Or is Harry actually there? It's both...saddening and scary. Lovely ep altogether.

  • wow did allen change his color

  • @124titanic: Both Allen and Sir Ralph had a repaint in the episode...14 I believe.

  • @donaldengine9 thanks

i thought allen was going to where the pasenger bule for ever

  • omg! increadible!!!:) words cant describe how incredible this is. The ending sent shivers up my spine!

  • the ghost of Gadwall

  • is jeffery not going to be in the next episode

  • (GASP!) Gadwall's Spirit! O_O

  • @LGee14

    Who's Gadwall?

  • @scifiguy9000 Gadwall was a friend of Sir Ralph's. But when he was bombed in the Second World War and now, his spirit returns.

  • @LGee14

    Oh I see.

    Thanks.

  • @scifiguy9000 You welcome. ;)

  • This brings that story in the Railway Series to mind. I think it's called 'Bluebells of England."

  • @Lisavinny - in some ways its not unlike - but Alf's preservation was by an individual, not a society. This was just on the tip of the iceberg regarding locomotive preservation in this country, and some might say Alf's status is more important than that of Stepney, for he lead the way in private individuals owning, and running, private steam engines on British Railways.

  • you should make a 17x.2 and a modern series so that they are all preserved and meet tornado andsee their reactions to a new buld i know where you can get a model of tornado in its lner green and there may be a model of it in its brunswick green next year

  • @lner1995 - I have models of "Big T" in all three liveries, for that very contingency. Thanks for your message of support :)

  • Bleeding brilliant ending, how about makeing the BRWS 2000 sirese, in whitch tells the storeis of Stephen in 2010, and although he maybe surrouded by modern trains (Eurostars, Intercitys, Class 66's ETC ETC) he meets othor trains like Tornado, Roket and maby meets Flying Scotsman again. Its just an Idea. anyway, this episode gose in my favorates.

  • @RJBandsma68 - if you look at the very first scene after the opening credits, it's the A4 styled engine heading to the shed.

  • ...at 5:56

  • also wasent steven LNER born

  • @bigbomb1986 - GER born, actually, LNER rebuilt, BR preserved and restored.

  • you a gadwall tribute with the song dont you forget about me

  • Very nice video, Keep up the good work!

  • @shadowedmultiverse - I have read some strange posting in my time - but this takes the biscuit, and will be deleted. What an outrageous racial slur, both on said religion, and my characters. Disgusting.

  • @simierski I saw that one, was way above the fake and gay comments which rain down on me at a rate of hundreds a day.

sort of shows you just how much time people have to waste, not sure if they will wake up to the fact they blew it in their dying breath.

  • @leokimvideo - Leo, many many thanks. Just hit the big 10,000, fastest any of the BRWS vids has managed it :)

  • @simierski thats fine, those secret linked annotations will keep feeding this baby for a long time yet.

  • @simierski

1:37 - Would that by any chance be the Thompson the L1 that you mentioned on SiF?

By the way, fantastic job on this! Can't wait for the next installment of the BRWS!

  • @NarrowGaugeEngine - yes indeed - I had to go back and re-shoot certain shots, and I wanted to get it into the film somehow. :)

  • WOW. I must say, you are very good at making the fog work well with the ghost engines, But why is Stevian still depressed over the Dieselazaition? Did he even heard that already some british railway steam engines are starting to be preserved by now? Is he going to found out? :) :(

  • @Matt3985 well i mean, i heard that one B12 has been preserved.......could make good plot twist, and if that was your idea simerski, i'm sorry for ruining it

  • @Matt3985 - at the time, in 1959, only Alf had been officially preserved.

  • @simierski Oh, I see, But I thought Hawk was going to be the first british steam preserved? :) :S

  • @Matt3985 - Hawk is 9400, but he wouldn't be officially preserved until 4 years later. In fact, I get the feeling I may have to bring Hawk back - again. That engine's had more comebacks than Tom Jones...!

  • @simierski Nice. Plus Thanks btw Hawk was my favorite Character. I hope he does return soon. Maybe you can do an epsiode about him coming back and trying to find out what happened to Gronk. :)

  • @Matt3985 - if Hawk or Gronk come back, it won't be to Copley Hill. No, I have bigger plans for those characters.

  • @simierski Oh okay, Well Im looking forward to Hawk's return he is my favorite because he reminds me of Duck The Great Western Engine. :)

  • @simierski and the SLPR locos but there were what, 6 of them and none of em' worked.

The 60s is a great time for railtours though. You got the B12 outa broad steet, Peglar, SRPS, LCGB, the blue-belle, SLPR and sadly IT57. Come 1969 it all went quiet..., for a while ;) .

  • does the ghost a4 play a part in the next episode

    and is it gadwall

  • Who is the "large mogul engine"?

and does she? appear in the next episode?

  • @matanuialive2010 - wait and see, and yes she will.

  • @simierski let me guess - her name is possibly Charlotte? :L I read your blog.

  • GADWALL'S GHOST!!!!!! :O

  • I love your series. I have a B12 too.

  • where and how do you get the smoke gens?

  • @WHOisHE15 - I use a fog machine.

  • Very nice Ep, I have onre question-Were did you get Jeffery? Kit?

  • @bluefirexd12 - Geoffrey is a Lima J50 tank engine, RTR. You can find them on Ebay from time to time, they're very old models and very dated. The chassis is terrible, pancake motors that simply fail after a while. I am hoping Hornby or Bachmann may take them on in the future - there were a huge number of them, so no Eastern region layout can do without one or two of them really!

  • @simierski Well, You could switch the Old chassis with a new hornby or bachmann

    chassis. Just giving a Idea.

  • @bluefirexd12 - true, and I did that for Hawk (another old lima model) - but the cost to change it, when he has very few speaking, or moving, roles, pretty much rules it out. If a new one appears, I'll be happy!

  • WHENS THE NEXT EPISODE

  • @matanuialive2010 thats the sort of comment I get on a daily basis from several tubers, let simierski do it in hos own good time, you never rush a master when he's working on a masterpiece.

  • @leokimvideo - in fairness, I said 17X would be out by April...! Only six months late, good things come to those who wait!

Hopefully it won't be so long with the next one - the stories are written, I just have to film them now...13 to go...

  • @simierski I thought it was April 2011, so your 6 months early

  • @matanuialive2010 - when it's done. I haven't announced it officially yet as there's much to sort out - I want it to always be evolution, not revolution, with every episode to some extent.

  • @simierski OK ALL I WANTED TO KNOW WAS IF YOU HAD A FIXED DATE

  • @matanuialive2010 No need to use capslock, chap.

  • @matanuialive2010 stop shouting, thats quite rude on the tube and in now way the way to ask a simple question

  • @matanuialive2010 - no fixed date yet, I have much ground work to do before the next one. Sets to build, stories to write, faces to make and backgrounds to create...

  • Excellent work! It's so interesting to hear these engines finding out about something we've already learned about in history, and seen. Beautiful to see preservation in their point of view, and sickeningly sad because of their view of scrapping in all its gruesome detail.

By the way, you make your ghosts look extremely lifelike. I really enjoy the way they look so realistic.

Well done, on the whole, sir! It was a long wait, but well worth it. Thankyou for this series... and keep at it.

  • @EdwardGordonandHenry - the ghosts are easy to do if you plan the shots well. It requires at least three shots, taken in the same place, and lots of smoke to pull that particular effect off. I dare say anyone can do it, just give it a go :)

  • is that the end that was quite sad

  • @ShaurntheSheep - it's not the end of the series by any means :)

  • hurray your back great

  • Fantastic. This Is a Great Piece of work!!!! Good Work simon KEEP IT UP!! BTW What's the name of the music at 3:41-5:20? I'm just asking I like that music.

  • @Frserthegreenengine - I think it's called rumination, not sure, will go and check.

  • exellent work simon!

  • This is genius work!

Your layout has only tracks, trains and gravel ( don't feel offended), but the way in which you film it, it looks real. The first time i saw your video, when i didn't have a account, i thought that this was another railway series coming on TV alond with Thomas and Friends!

I wish i could film like you!

  • @CHR652 - chap, if you look at my "making of" video - and the one coming up thereafter - you WILL be able to film like, or even dare I say, better than me. All it takes is a little help from a friend in the know, I know of one particular tuber who has literally been the engine behind this channel.

  • @simierski

    Thank you!

I shall keep that in mind.

    Great video anyway!

  • @CHR652 - your welcome. May I also reccomend - because thinking about it, it's what started me out, and to this day is much, much better than my own work - leokimvideo's "Mad bomber" videos. Play close attention to his "making of" series of videos, incredible tips there that few sadly seem to pick up on.
