Examples would be the recent fighting between Russia and Georgia, and of course the Vietnam war ( Russia and China heavily supplied the Viet Cong, in fact the Viet Cong wouldn't have been able to put up much of a fight with out Russia and China)

It is true that the U.S. (by itself) does not have the man power or equipment to successfully invade and conquer the gigantic territory that is Russia.
However, the US does have the capability to dominate Russian airspace and launch continuous crippling air strikes for months on end.
Of course both the US and Russia have huge stockpiles of ICBM's (intercontinental ballistic missiles) that can be equipped with whatever warhead they want (including nuclear).

You are partly right. The US is currently attacking Russia by setting up missile defense systems in former Soviet Bloc countries and expanding NATO which is surrounding Russia. The US can attack Russia by superior Air Force capabilities, ICBM's, and Cyber attacks on important Russian networks. Don't forget that the US Navy can definitely attack Russia's navy. But of course all of this would inevitably spark a possible nuclear confrontation. Currently Russia is rebuilding and is at a disadvantage

Beyond the obvious political freedom and all that (big differences, I know), in modern democracies where one party controls all elements of government with a president not popularly elected (e.g. America 2000-2006), how different is that from a dictatorship? PATRIOT act anyone? Should something like that have been allowed in a real democracy? Democracy's the right idea, but it needs its own perestroika and glasnost.
