FUCKING SWORD MAN!!!!! god i love this fucking shit... they are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good,
Its like if metallica and slayer had a baby, then led zeppelin and black sabbath had a baby.... then if those two babies met and fucked.... it would be the sword
All other metal bands bow down and worship at the alter of The Sword!!! If my son ever asks me..."Dad...what is rock?"...I'll say..."Son...I can't tell you what rock is...but I can show you..." /Push play on How Heavy This Axe by The Sword/ F-ya!
@athiestsshallburn each band starts using as templates older bands and then they build their sound from there by filtering their influences...Lamb of God sound for instance draws a lot from Pantera, Pantera sound takes a lot from thrash metal...and so on..so where is the problem if some people do not enjoy the recent music or the last decade's music and want to go back and build on the sound of quite older bands? And obviously you do not fancy this sound thats why you only listen to Zeppelin
every time i hear this song my eyes turn black and i bleed sheer glory from every pore. an all knowing owl then appears to me and whispers the secrets of the universe, which turns me into a half-god from the farthest galaxy for roughly 40 minutes, so i go invert the souls of a few nazis in my glorified state before returning to my flat very hungry. i then eat a fishwich and watch law abiding citizen
@athiestsshallburn Yeah, why tell us something we already know? It's not like I'd react shocked, if some went up to my face, saying something I already know.
This is strickly my opinion so if you disagree be easy. I was just talking to my buddy the other day about why 80's "style" guitarists didn't exist today and it is a shame that talent is no longer "cool" by todays' standards. I DEFINATELY appreciate the sound!!!Of course this is coming from a guy that used to have "seek and destroy" played to him every night before he passed out in his crib lol.
@JakeTheNonConformist Not trying to start any arguements, but that is a bit like saying most 70's inspired Doom Metal bands are Black Sabbath rip-offs.
The problem I have with The Sword is that they do a few bars of a fantastic retro type riff worthy of Sabbath etc., then do a few bars of "grungey chugga-chugga", and mix the two infuriatingly. They seem to do that on all their songs (that I've heard). Also, the vocals are a bit 2nd league. They're playing in my home town tomorrow, and I just can't decide if I should go. I've walked out of so many gigs this year!
All this talk about Rap being shit, look Rap is stuff like Public Enemy, De la Soul, you know good stuff. Hip Hop on the other hand is crap like flo rida or Usher, this sucks. Along with pop like the x-factor stuff (and others who i won't mention buti think everyone will know what whiny white boy i'm talking about)
@Calum4291 i know people just dont seem to be open minded about rap, i got a shitload of guff for liking nu metal, like ratm linkin park hybrid theory ONLY, just stuff like that

@EyeOnTheTv; It's not really ment as a metaphor, but rather taken from old mythologies... greek I think it was. This song is also insipred greatly by the Conan novel "The Black River"... you should read it ;)
Without doubt my fav song by the Sword... love it!
Thats awesome. But really, all its doing is promoting the music and The Sword. So sad to hear of the loss of the drummer. Fingers crossed they find a good one soon.
@Maxpow33r I had the same problem. I think what it means is that since they sound alot like sabbath, they are doom metal in the same sense that sabbath or even sleep is.
@6Pimptress9 I found out too late to go to ACL and I really hate it. Would have loved to see them. I missed Lamb of God in San Antonio as well because of a trip out of state. However, got tickets to Megadeath in September.
This is a bad ass song. I was thrashing around my room, and my dog was like "What the hell are you doing". Then oddly enough, he started scratching his head, and it looked like he was rockin with me lol
This is the shit. I first heard of this song from a video game "Metallica Guitar Hero." I could not believe I had never heard this before. I would love to be in this band.
@athiestsshallburn I can completely agree with you there. Let us stop living in the past. Make something new that takes influence from the greats of the past, but imitation is not the way.
@athiestsshallburn so you DON'T want to bands like wolfmother and the sword, etc., bring an era of rock the likes of which has not been seen since the days of Zeppelin and Sabbath

That's an interesting interpretation considering it's an allusion to the River Styx where the dead must provide a coin to Charon to pass into Hades. Hard to live your life to the fullest when you're dead.
@EyeOnTheTV i think it means in greek mythology that the ferry man will bring u acrosse the lake/river to the underworld if you have 2 gold coins but if u dont he leaves u there to rot, but if u have the courage to take up the oar that u refuse to die.
@EyeOnTheTV Im not really sure about the accuracy of your theory... The "ferry" is referencing the ferry that carries souls across the river Styx in Greek mythology... The coins are payment to Charon, the Ferryman of Hades, to cross the river
@EyeOnTheTV its not a metaphor, its about dieing and crossing the Black River... aka the River Styx, to get into the netherworld. read all the lyrics. if you research mythology, which is what all their songs are about, when you go to cross the river, you either pay your way, or paddle yourself, thats the price to pay.

Please take a brief moment
To answer this question
As the ferry approaches the shore
Do you have the coin
to pay for your passage
or the courage to take up the oar?
I feel this is a great metaphor for life and taking charge of your own destiny.
To paraphrase: Can you really afford to sit back and do nothing or are you going to take charge to go places and do something?

@EyeOnTheTV
That's an interesting interpretation considering it's an allusion to the River Styx where the dead must provide a coin to Charon to pass into Hades. Hard to live your life to the fullest when you're dead.

@LivesUnderABridge Hmm.. perhaps what Cronrise wrote in this song is his own interpretation of that story.

@crazeroker911 yeah I get it but how is that story not also a metaphor? Why should anything only ever have one meaning?
EyeOnTheTV 1 year ago
@EyeOnTheTV its not a metaphor, its about dieing and crossing the Black River... aka the River Styx, to get into the netherworld. read all the lyrics. if you research mythology, which is what all their songs are about, when you go to cross the river, you either pay your way, or paddle yourself, thats the price to pay.

@EyeOnTheTV
I'm willing to bet that it's just an allusion to the ferryman of the river styx from Greek mythology and you are reading into it too much.
@ Others
"omg this isn't doom metal"
Shut up, it is what it is. Who gives a shit what you feel a need to label it within your coven of metal-obsessed retardation.
