Kids need this sort of message, made age-appropriate, from parents, teachers, silly old uncles, spinster aunties, clergy, librarians, policemen, public figures of reasonably good repute, etc., etc... in hopes they'll internalize it, and live it out, day by day, to make their lives meaningful, valuable and a positive example for others.
What wouuld have been the proper theme in the speech was for the President to announce ``more funding for our schools instead on debating whether to send more ``kids to die in a ``Corporate war`..We want to send a message to our kids.. yet sometimes we have to be adult enough to make the right choices for our youth.
There was an article in Time magazine entitled "Dropout Nation" (April 9, 2006) go Google it. It states, "...an increasing number of researchers are saying that 1 out of 3 public high school students won't graduate. For Latinos and African Americans, the rate approaches an alarming 50%."
its all about race if this was Clinton or bush no problem u wouldn't hear this hoopla!!! the only people i see complaining is whites and some pollawanacraker negros who try to become the color they aren't! now i see why america is the laughing stock with rush porky pig good lambauh and pookle nose steele what a laugh! good job Katie forget the idiots
Dude, you're an idiot, if it was "about race" then Obama wouldn't have become president by a landslide. It's people like you that keep racism alive, it will exist as long as you keep trying to make excuses for other people not thinking the way you do.
It is about race and I agree with "meterman432110". President Obama won the election by a landslide? Are you serious?
Do you really believe that 300,000,000 million Americans (our current American population) actually voted? That's not true. The majority of the people that voted for Obama were poor American people including the White population.
However, a huge and historical population other than whites voted for Obama because he brought hope, not color.
No, I don't believe 300million voted because I never said that, only 122 million voted. That still doesn't make a difference, Obama received 10 million more votes than McCain, yes that's a freakin landslide.
And whats your point about the poor voting for Obama? They aren't going to vote for someone who is going to make the rich richer.
And yes, the rich are the minority in every country on earth, wealth is relative. So again, is there a point to that comment?
What do you mean what's my point? You don't understand that landslide means "The Whole Land". It's like baseball & "The World Series".
How is it a World Series when you only play teams in America? Think about it.
The point about Obama is that the majority (the poor in the so called "richest country in the world") voted for hope and not another person with an obvious plan to make us poorer but instead bring hope to an entire united nation.
Greed & corruption are relative & wealth is pocketed.
Katie, ignore ignorant comment by Shaytan, who wouldn't see a dictatorship if he were trapped in Russia. Sadly, it's about race with those purposely ignorant fools who want everyone to be as ignorant as them. The kids who were denied a chance to see the speech think the adults who denied them the chance are paranoid and more than a bit nuts.
Kids will see it on YouTube, on websites, hear it on the radio. The illusions of dictating what people can/cannot do is extremist whether right or left..

Katie Couric, how does it feel to be in the United States of America, yet purposely ignoring important news because you and your news outlet are pushing your agenda on the American people with the president?
Do you want to leave your children that kind of country? If you were in Venezuela, you guys wouldn't even have to be shut down by Chavez -- you're doing it yourself.
wtf I gotta wait for a 30 second commercial before I can start fapping? Sorry Katie the moment is ruined

Bush had told kids to take school seriously, but for some strange reason they didn't listen.

So who's the real minority? The rich.

Landslide -noun: an overwhelming victory or majority
I would call winning by 10 million votes an "overwhelming majority", landslide doesn't mean the entire mountain goes with it.
