Anybody got a copy of Neihardt interviewed on Dick Cavett's show? Cavett's not accessible & his publishers don't respond. JGN was on twice, I think. I'd love to see that!
I met John Neihardt in 1964 during my undergraduate days at the University of Missouri when I enrolled in his class, "The Mountain Men." I was 20, he was 84. The class consisted of Dr. Neihardt sitting on the lecture hall stage reading aloud from his master work, A Cycle of the West. We became and remained friends until his death. I cherish his work, memory and influence.
Thanks for posting the video of Dr. Neihardt talking about his Easter poem. I was thinking about it and him today and looked him up on youtube just on a whim. He was a wonderful man, and a witness at our wedding these 42 years ago in Columbia, MO.
As a boy in Lincoln, Nebraska I heard him recite his poems on occasion at school assemblies. I'll never forget how this diminutive man with leonine hair chanted his verse and held us in thrall. What a wonderful thing to count him as a friend.
I hadn't heard of the interviews. I'd love to see them, too.
