@drclabo Yup, did the same thing today and it's working perfectly. Hope I didn't just screw myself over by saying that. haha. It was a bitch to open though since I didn't have the right tools, but with a knife and twisting some with my hand, it eventually came off. Though mine's only 50gb.

Also, the hard drive should read "microsoft" when it is pulled up under storage devices. There are no ban rules for custom hard drive installations under both the Xbox and XBL TOS. The only thing about doing this is, even though it's a Microsoft Hard Drive, any damage caused by it either directly or indirectly is not covered under warranty. Same clause applies to hard drives manufactured by 3rd parties. If you got banned for this it would be Microsoft's fault because you aren't violating TOS.
Just thought I'd chime in with a little bit of info. You can order a empty hard drive shell for the slim for about $5 on eBay. This might be nice to have some peace of mind knowing no connections will be bent by the hard drive not being held in place. The hard drive just sits in the caddy and pops in. Anywho, it popped in the Xbox like a charm and now I have all my saves on my new Xbox. All it cost me was $5.25 for the caddy and $1 for a star driver which is MUCH cheaper than a new HD.
hey thanks for this vid- I did all this but got an E68 error, BUT I now remember attempting to fix a fucked up console with the same drive plugged in all assembled, it got the same thing. I've seen multiple fixes for this error so I'm going to reassemble it partially,plug it in via that and go from there. MUST SAVE MASS EFFECT SAVES!

Once you transfer the hard drive over does all your save data from the old one still apply? Like if you start a game will it recognize you already have the save data

Or instead of accidentaly ruining your harddrive with all your games, you can just buy a new harddrive and transfer cable and sell the old one on ebay, then it only costs you less than 100 bucks extra which isn't too bad to guarentee that your xbox will be ok and your saves won't be lost. Just snap it in and BAM, profiles and all show up automatically. Recently transfered over my 60gb hd. Save urself the money. Takes about 5 minutes or less to transfer. You can find a shell case on ebay for less than $10. So, brand new xbox 60gb+ hd, $100+, or $10 case. Tough choice...............NOT.

oh, and i love how Microsoft advertises a 4gb hd that is only 3, AND a 20gb that is only 13.
i used the 20gb from my original 360, stuck it in the 360s, formatted it, and its really only a 13 gb hd. they say its because of system data or whatever, but...i seems a little scandalous.

I did this. I transferred my 20gb HDD from my original white Xbox 360 into my brand-new Xbox 360 S 4gb; now my graphics stink. I mean they're terribly uglier than before.

The video is good and all but note it will think its the old Xbox and that hard drive is slower cuss the new Xbox 360 S comes with a 260 or 350gb hdd with 7200RPM that is a 5200rpm other than that good video:)
