  • What a charming sound it produces!

I am currently building a mini-clavichord. How did you determine what it's compass should/could be when you planned it out? Was it determined by the kind of songs you wished to play, physical limitations of the instrument, or some established standard?

Thank you. And once again, marvelous job!

  • @mercoid

    Thank you!

We just used the compass of the Miniature Virginal by Francesco Vanini. We wanted to build this instrument before but than we decided to build the instrument after our own plans.

  • @cembalo95 A bold decision, going on your own plans. You should be proud it worked out so well.

I am not expecting so much from my clavichord build. I only hope that it fulfills the the most basic requirements of a clavichord and produces the sound it should. then maybe I'll move on to building a more proper one.

I am very much a beginner musician, only having started piano lessons last year and having no innate musical talent. ...cont>>

  • >>cont. I love the keyboard literature spanning the the 15th through 18th centuries, but don't think I'll ever be able to play any of it.

I love the emotionally, intellectually sophisticated music when expressed well on an "earthy", almost crude instrument. It almost emphasizes how the instrument hardly matters when the heart felt interpretation is employed. Too many ppl are "snobs" when it comes to early instruments.

    Many thanks for your response!

  • wath's the name of the piece ?

  • @giu13pet

You can see it in the video description:

    1. piece: "Aria Sopra la Bergamasca" (1642) by Marco Uccellini

    2. piece: "Bid Me To Live" by Henry Lawes

  • could you also send me price and renseignements for this fantastic instrument i m in France!congratulations

  • would you be willing to build this for me if the price were right? or maybe sell me the plans?

  • @ST3RRAMusique

Yes, we can build this instrument for you. I will write you a message with the price.

  • @cembalo95 Wow! could you also send me the price of one of those? I'm in Mexico City. Pleeeease!!!

  • @lalungenuictdestens

    I'll send you a message.

  • i want this

  • I have been BEGGING my parents to get me a harpsichord! They wouldn't even get me one like this I bet, haha.

  • sooo cute! u did perfectly, the sound is great! :-D

  • @baltik007kitty

    Thank you very much!

  • Fantastic! I love the sound. It must be very gratifying to complete such a project w/ your own plans.

  • What is the 2nd piece on this video? Very nice...

  • @harpsichorddave

I don't have the sheet music so I'm not sure but I think its called "Bid Me To Live" by Henry Lawes.

  • @cembalo95 Many thanks, I will look it up, I wont be needing the sheet music though: I wrote it out from memory on a flight today!

  • you did great work. we need more talented artists like your self it would be a better world.i enjoyed your video very much keep on building. all the best to you !

  • @harpsi8

Thank you for your kind comment. I'm glad you like it.

  • did you fit dampers to the jacks? it sounds so resonant

  • @michaeljking

No I don't fit any dampers, like some historical ottavinos too.

  • @cembalo95 really makes the sound magical......ethereal,

  • Thank you very much for this vidéo :) This is a really nice little harpsichord ! Together with the music you play, this reminds me a bit of a music box that helps children to fall asleep though no doubt it is better than a music box :). I guess that it must have been quite tricky to build the jacks ! Are you planning to build a big one now ?

  • @sunelav

    Thank you for your comment!

Well, the jacks are the only components that a harpsichord maker gave us. We have built the rest :)

I like to build another instrument in the next time. But I don't know exactly what (maybe a clavichord).

  • You are so cool! :D Did you paint the painting in the lid aswell?

  • @HerrWarja

Thank you! The painting painted my brother. He's a very talented artist and I built this harpsichord with him.

  • @cembalo95 Wow, exellent from both of you!

  • simply beautiful, It sounds so much fuller than an ottavino!! Is it Brass strung? Would you consider making the plans available for this? I know I would love to make one!!!

  • @michaeljking

I'm glad you like it. Yes, the strings are Yellow brass Ø 0.223 2.5m. I will try to make the plans but we did a lot without any plans, just improvised :) but I will try it.
