There are so many animal shelters out there, that have many animal in need of a home. The amount of homeless animals that are living temporarily in humane societies and animal shelters is very high.
My heart is breaking for all these dogs. I just want to save them all and sadly it's not possible. There is a real problem in Memphis with people breeding pit bulls for money. I only say this because I noticed there were a lot of bully breeds in the video. The city should put a stop to it, but unfortunately they'd rather sit back and euthanize the animals rather than addressing the real problem: breeding for money and not spaying or neutering pets.

Breaks my heart. Seeing how sad they look, and even more the ones who run up to the front when they see a person, hoping they will rescue them, they can sense the death, they know what they face is they dont get out...please adopt, dont buy, and spay and neuter your pets, dont get an animal if you cannot keep them their whole life or have a plan in place in case of an emergency (death, serious illness etc) for what will happen to them, so that they dont end up in a place like this.
This is so sad. I would give anything to make every animal in this world have a better life. when i watch things like this it brakes my heart. Animals are not just animals, they have feelings and they can feel pain. and anyone who hurts or abuses animals are just because they are babys and cant pick on someone there own size.

I hope people see this to learn that shelters don't just have two or three old beaten-up dogs... they have so many and a huge variety. Shopping for one is pointless!
Look at them...look at their faces...look and their eyes...and know that nearly 8 out of 10 of them were killed. SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS and do not PURCHASE a pet - ADOPT. Every time someone supports breeding in any way, they are causing an animal to die. Put breeders out of business, they aren't handbags, they are living, breathing beings.
I am sure most of these dogs, if not all, were murdered by Mayor Wharton too. He is the one murdering them because he is the one with the power to change the shelter to a No Kill instead of constantly supporting his idiot friend Matthew Pepper (who touts No Kill sayings like Satan reads Bible scripture).
That is a lot of dogs, I feel so bad for all of them. I volenter at my local shelter to help them find loving homes for themselves and i get awful attached to them and get sad when the leave. We only have 5 dog kennels though and only two dogs and 8 cats at the moment! YAY!

We need to stop euthanizing these animals. There are 10 Million unemployed people who are willing to help take care of them. There are 100,000 vacant facilities that we can use to house them.

@Mamboleo1995 i love her too! i met her at petco and she kept leaning on me and didnt get up wen she lay down with me! <3 and once, there was this really old basset hound he was ADORABLE! and wenever i got up and walked away, he would just start barkin and howling. I FELT SO BAD!
@scouthouseluv awww...yes they are definitly smarter than most people thing...he was probably howling and barking saying "heyy dont you know what happens if you leave me here??" leaving a dog at the shelter that you know wont be adopted is the hardest thing ever. i bet those ones at Petco got adopted though. :) I love the in-store adoption centers. the dogs need more public attention like that

@scouthouseluv yeah it does suck but lots of big pet stores like petsmart and petco are working to put adoption centers in their facilities.
I used to volunteer at a shelter where i used to live and while i was there they built an adoption center inside petsmart and once a week they would send new dogs over to the adoption center it was a good way for people to get to see the dogs and made the shelter less crowdeddd :)

I'm going to volunteer at the local animal shelter tomorrow. This video gave me even more of an incentive to do it. Even if they can't find a home, I just want to spend time with them and keep them company so they don't feel so alone and depressed.
I've never seen dog so listless, lying on the floor, or desperate to get out of there. Please, people, do what this video encourages you to do and what you feel when you watch this and go get a dog at an animal shelter instead of buying one at a pet store!

I'm writing a paper on animal shelters for my senior project right now, and my paper went from optimistic to as pessimistic as it gets. How can anyone write a positive paper about things like this?
I'm going to cry. I'm like, a hug animal lover. If I see an animal I can resist the cuteness lol.. But when we go into animal shelters to get a new pet, Omg I cry, they all look at you with those baby eyes.. reach out to be pet.. if they don't find an owner, they get put down.. We adopted our dog. When they brought him into the animal shelter they said they found him walking the streets of Inverness. When we adopted him his ribs were showing, he had bloodshot eyes and he was boney all over. The lady that looks after all the dogs in the adoption kennel just does it from the kindness of her heart, she doesn't get paid for it either.
This shelter looks decent compared to the one i live near. I video taped some of the dogs and will put them up soon. Its not the shelter's faults. Not enough people volunteer or even donate to some shelters. I walked a Pit yesterday and it jumped on me and bit my arm, trying to play. I had to grab his neck and pin him on the floor and it made me cry because it shows how stressed he was. He will probably never find a home unless its with a dog fighter. i plan to visit him again, no hard feelings.

OK! Well I know that a shelter isn't a "home" for the animal but it should feel like it. I personally feel like it wasnt home for these animals. I feel like the cages could have been nicer, cleaner, and more warm and inviting.

As a former volunteer at this Shelter, I have to say a couple of things. The conditions for the dogs have visually improved drastically with the change in management. Second, if you think that you aren't needed to help with fostering/adopting/paying for spay/neuter for a dog, just watch this video again. Thanks rotomemphis for a poignant protrayal of one of Memphis' biggest problems...pet overpopulation.
@amyd3731 pet overpopulation is a very big problem and I'm writing my final paper in composition on it. It's a problem solution paper and I was hoping you or anyone else can give me some more ideas for my solution to this problem. So far i have spaying and neutering and regulations on breeding. If you or anyone else has any ideas please reply to this. I'm pretty set at the problem but if you have something you think i might have overlooked your help is always welcome.
This video should prove to people how important spay/neuter really is in order to stop the overpopulation. So many animals to adopt out and so few homes for them. People - Stop buying from pet shops, puppy mills, and backyard breeders. We, the people, are responsible for the need to euthanize so many.

The shelters in calif are full as well, so sad. You cant belive how many cats and dogs die every MONTH!! Just think every state, in the U.S. has places just like these!! So if you did the math, it just to heart breaking...
estimates are that 6-8 million dogs and cats die in shelters every year simply because they are homeless. many other states don't have very bad overpopulation problems, and responsible ownership and in some instances legislation is to thank for that.

(2) click on the one about 2 or three choices down (wich ever one is petfinder)
(3) click on pet list
(4) look for kennel # 15! i LOVE her so much and she really likes me too. i hope she finds a good happy home :)

that is really cool that your shelter shows what animals are there. none of the ones I have volunteered at do that, and i bet it would really help get more dogs adopted!!

@Mamboleo1995 i love her too! i met her at petco and she kept leaning on me and didnt get up wen she lay down with me! <3 and once, there was this really old basset hound he was ADORABLE! and wenever i got up and walked away, he would just start barkin and howling. I FELT SO BAD!

@scouthouseluv awww...yes they are definitly smarter than most people thing...he was probably howling and barking saying "heyy dont you know what happens if you leave me here??" leaving a dog at the shelter that you know wont be adopted is the hardest thing ever. i bet those ones at Petco got adopted though. :) I love the in-store adoption centers. the dogs need more public attention like that

@scouthouseluv yeah it does suck but lots of big pet stores like petsmart and petco are working to put adoption centers in their facilities.
I used to volunteer at a shelter where i used to live and while i was there they built an adoption center inside petsmart and once a week they would send new dogs over to the adoption center it was a good way for people to get to see the dogs and made the shelter less crowdeddd :)

I wouldn't be able to go into any shelter without walking out with a new family addition. It's heart breaking that people can put their pets in shelters, or that any of them are in there at all. I'm writing a paper on animal shelters for my senior project right now, and my paper went from optimistic to as pessimistic as it gets. How can anyone write a positive paper about things like this?

I'm going to cry. I'm like, a hug animal lover. If I see an animal I can resist the cuteness lol.. But when we go into animal shelters to get a new pet, Omg I cry, they all look at you with those baby eyes.. reach out to be pet.. if they don't find an owner, they get put down.. Thats why I hate the animal shelter. It's a good place to keep the pets until they find a home, but if they haven't gotten one just yet ..thats no reason to put them down. Were lucky these animals forgive us...

We adopted our dog. When they brought him into the animal shelter they said they found him walking the streets of Inverness. When we adopted him his ribs were showing, he had bloodshot eyes and he was boney all over. The lady that looks after all the dogs in the adoption kennel just does it from the kindness of her heart, she doesn't get paid for it either.

This shelter looks decent compared to the one i live near. I video taped some of the dogs and will put them up soon. Its not the shelter's faults. Not enough people volunteer or even donate to some shelters. I walked a Pit yesterday and it jumped on me and bit my arm, trying to play. I had to grab his neck and pin him on the floor and it made me cry because it shows how stressed he was. He will probably never find a home unless its with a dog fighter. i plan to visit him again, no hard feelings.

I try to explain to them they would be saving a LIFE but they just dont want to hear it. OK! Well I know that a shelter isn't a "home" for the animal but it should feel like it. I personally feel like it wasnt home for these animals. I feel like the cages could have been nicer, cleaner, and more warm and inviting.

As a former volunteer at this Shelter, I have to say a couple of things. The conditions for the dogs have visually improved drastically with the change in management. Second, if you think that you aren't needed to help with fostering/adopting/paying for spay/neuter for a dog, just watch this video again. Thanks rotomemphis for a poignant protrayal of one of Memphis' biggest problems...pet overpopulation.

@amyd3731 pet overpopulation is a very big problem and I'm writing my final paper in composition on it. It's a problem solution paper and I was hoping you or anyone else can give me some more ideas for my solution to this problem. So far i have spaying and neutering and regulations on breeding. If you or anyone else has any ideas please reply to this. I'm pretty set at the problem but if you have something you think i might have overlooked your help is always welcome.

This video should prove to people how important spay/neuter really is in order to stop the overpopulation. So many animals to adopt out and so few homes for them. People - Stop buying from pet shops, puppy mills, and backyard breeders. We, the people, are responsible for the need to euthanize so many.
A pet is for life!

The shelters in calif are full as well, so sad. You cant belive how many cats and dogs die every MONTH!! Just think every state, in the U.S. has places just like these!! So if you did the math, it just to heart breaking...

estimates are that 6-8 million dogs and cats die in shelters every year simply because they are homeless. many other states don't have very bad overpopulation problems, and responsible ownership and in some instances legislation is to thank for that.
