Bruce is at true rock poet. Of all the great songs (lyrics) he wrote, this is the best!
My brother got this album back in the 70's, and I have loved this song ever since, I was 10-11 yeras old then´, but until this day, no matter when or where I hear this song I get shivers down my spine and tears in my eyes, what wonderful sad lyrics!
"They must have shot you in the head, cuz point blank....bang, bang, baby you're dead...."
The lyrics in this song, the nuance of this song are timeless, profound and haunting. The arrangement of the music adds to the powerful, philosophical and poetic thoughts invoked by anyone who understands the lyrics.
One of the most powerful songs ever performed - so much atmosphere. It’s been with me for 20 years, since I was 16, and still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end like the first time I heard it.
@ajpenno To me too, it sends me shivers in the back, each time I hear it...!!! It is a timeless song...A poem... It's another perfect song from the Boss...!!!
Beautiful, one of my favorite among the favorites

Agree with everything written here. Lost love everything. Haunting piano. Wish I was still that romantic, it's all been knocked out of me by life!

IMO even Elvis, The Beetles or Rolling Stones can't match Bruce Springsteen's body of work.

I was in Dublin that day, with my Californian sweet heart, we played this track and cried our eyes out. Sad and beautiful memories...
