what kind of idiot would sell that for $30 ? even if you knew the engine was blown up into 100 pieces, its worth more than $30 in scrap metal alone, not to mention parting out things like the interior, dash, seats, wheels, tires etc
From the looks of it .. seems blown coolant seals.
I noticed the Temp gauge is pointed above Mid Line. That RX-7 might have been overheating. The normal operating Temp for RX-7 is at 1/4 Line of the Temp gauge. Blown (coolant) seals usually results to overheating and hard start / flooding. Overheating will also damage the engine, specifically the Apex seals of the Rotor, which rebuilt is the only solution.
But, hopefully its just a regular flooding. RX7s are really cool and fast rotary cars.
Get rid of the junk rotary, replace with a piston engine. You will have more power, dependability, use less oil, and get better fuel economy, and you won't have to put up with this crap any more.
Are you serious? The cold start kicks in a bumps the revs up to 3.5k - 4k. by it self. that free revving he's doing is to help It stay on and get the fuel out of there
I know how to work on them, but many really don't want to drag their mechanic with them every place they go in their car because that is what is needed if you own a car with a rotary.
what did you exacly do please do send me a message my dad has a 1987 mazda rx7 turbo and it has the smae problim but we almost got it to start someone please send me a message on what we should do
we had to unflood mine like 2 years ago lol after it sat for 1 year, i had leeky injectors causing horrible flooding not to mention bad compression also.
Mine did that same thing few months Before my engine lost all compression. Before the engine went out all the way, The only easy way for me to start my rx7 was to put a fuel pump kill switch in. So on startup i would kill fuel pressure till it started Running. Then Flip the fuel back on. Btw I Put a turbo on an N/A engine. What ya think about dat. yes it works. Dont forget the Turbo Ecu and all other turbo sensors.
N/A's have a 9.7:1 compression ratio. Twin and Turbo II's have a 9.0:1 compression ratio. Low compression you say....Dude you need to do some research on rotories man. Lol!
You seemed to miss the point. First of all i have two rx7s. I know what they should sound like when they Turn over. #2 When they Flood like that High chance that the compression is getting low. I have went through 3 engines. Rebuilt my last one. So dude think agian on what you think i know or DOnt know. The compression strokes are Uneven if you listen. So #1 either the engine is Brand new and just breaking in Or #2 the side seals or the Apex seals are worn.

thats a damn good deal. am getting a 84 Rx7 for free... well more so then less, all I got to do is get an new front caliper maybe 100$ and drive it home. but I wish i could have got a 2end gen but all well am happy.
my 2005 rx8 manual says to de-choke the engine by Depress and hold accelerator to the floor, turn key ignition for 7 to 8 sec. this will clean out any unburned fuel from the combustion chamber.
the trick i like to use to unflood a engine is remove the EFI relay and crank it over for a bit usually forces air and no more fuel thru the cyclinders and allows for startage with wet plugs, but yeah thats conventional not rotary
well i wouldent have bought it flooding is usualy a bad sign. it sounds like it is getting bad compression has that (as my friends call it) drill motor sound. i had to put a fuel pump switch on mine the previous owner let it overheat and it melted a water jacket seal.
lol u serious, you need to have that dude talk to me and get some dealios like you got =P for $30 !?!? that's less that it costs to fill up most cars now
What really happened was that the apex seals at the tips of the rotors got wet with gas (flooded) and it would not start since it cannot build compression and it also fouls the spark plugs. Another trick is yo remove the spark plugs, stop fuel flow to engine and crank over the engine for 30 secs. Then put a small mopunt of 10wt oil in each spark plug hole and turn over engine again. then put in plugs and allow fuel flow and it will start right up.
Yeah, at the end of the video you can see me trying to get it to flame. At night you could see quick flames out both pipes if you tach it up (when you hear that "pop"). The popping sound was actually really loud inside the car.
Three words: Automatic Transmission Fluid.
P.S. I hate you so much.

All you have to do is pull the pump relay and spin it over. Then plug the relay back up and it will start.

Either way the rotary is junk and the car needs a piston engine to be reliable.

Series 4 rotary engines are low compression, series 5 on the other hand are high compression.
