with today's technology a good engineer could remove lots of the noise and most of the piano, isolating the guitar, then lay it over a new piano/synth backing track
I waited for Shawn Lanes' 1st album Powers of Ten after reading about him in Mike Varneys guitarist profile years ago in Guitar Player magazine. I am so glad that there are a lot of performances from fans on here. A great inspiration to me musically. This piece is beautifully expressive and i am going to introduce his music today to a few more guitarists who 'need to know'. Thanks for the post.
Every time i see a shawn lane vdo i cry...tears just automatically fill my eyes...how is this possible...i feel like he was my own friend even though he was thousands of miles away...the hurt of losing a loved one...how can he not be amongst us??....i cry...
I was at that show - I even have a signed poster from that day. Me and a friend of mine, we spoke to Shawn for about half an hour. He even sat behind a piano to show us how he composed and how he played some tricky licks despite him having relatively small hands. I also remember him telling us how nervous he was when Paul Gilbert asked him to play the piano for his wedding. Great memories. Unfortunately, the show ended prematurely because of his guitar - bridge problems, I think.
Yeah I got it in a bad condition and had is nearly fully restored. Due to longevity I don't use it for work now. I now use vigier original which I got from a shop in Oxford. I got the limited edition black with pinky red sparkle only two made.
Shawn will always be my heart and soul and this song was something when he was alive that made me want to spend my life with him. and now that he is only here in spirit this song brings me closer to him everytime I watch him play it. I'm positive one day when I finally do marry I will project him playing it as I walk down the aisle. I cry because I miss him, I cry because I love him, and I cry because of the intense beauty. He is not lost to us but we are all changed because of him.
In my opinion Enio Morricone's theme for Once Upon a Time in the West is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever composed, and seeing it performed like this is nothing short of incredible.

Best thing I've ever seen him do. Sounds like he was influenced by Uli Roth here.
janderson2000 3 years ago
I love how the mention of guitar genius Uli Roth makes people give your comment a negative rating. People, being compared to Uli Roth is an HONOR.

what is that exact model of sabre someone???
gunfart 3 years ago
All i know (off the top of my head) is that it was custom built for Shawn. It has 24 frets (rather than the usual 22 for a Sabre).
MyShawnLaneVideos 3 years ago
interesting. oh yeah they're 22. I got a charvel 750xl soloist a couple of years ago.
gunfart 3 years ago
Lucky you....... That's probably the guitar i want more than any (750XL).
